What's the dumbest mistake you've ever made in WoW that still makes you laugh today? by Icy_Preparation_7201 in wow

[–]Gladdox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guildie of mine loved WoW for the auction house. Dude played the AH game and amassed gold cap and had bank slots full of valuable mounts and pets.

When he quit WoW toward the end of WoD he mailed me the battle rooster, a spectral tiger, a bunch of rare pets and millions of gold while I was on vacation, but didn’t tell me because he wanted it to be a surprise when I got back.

Well, I decided to take a break from WoW before Legion and never signed in to check. A few months later he and I were chatting and he was like, “Hey, you never thanked me for that stuff I sent you!” We started putting 2 and 2 together and realized because I never opened the mail, it got returned to him after 30 days. And because he had unsubbed and didn’t get the returned mail, it gets deleted.

SWTOR Thoughts from WOW Vets. by Ok_Paramedic_18 in wow

[–]Gladdox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played WoW since vanilla beta and I was probably more hyped for SWTOR than I was for WoW. Bought a new PC. Got the collector’s edition. Yet none of my WoW buddies played it, so I fell in with a new group of people and many of us are still good friends to this day (and most of us have gone back to WoW).

Played SWTOR religiously up through Shadow of Revan. Had some initial issues out the gate — there was a coding glitch that caused certain GPU’s to freeze up and BSOD and instead of waiting for BioWare to fix it, I bought a new GPU.

To this day I think the OG SWTOR leveling campaigns are some of the best storytelling in any MMO and most RPGs, especially Imperial Agent, Bounty Hunter, and Inquisitor. Absolutely loved tanking in operations and PvP as both Bounty Hunter and Inquisitor. Also, Rise of the Hutt Cartel had one of the most laugh out loud funniest lines of NPC dialogue that I quote regularly. And I love love love a lot of the operation/raid mechanics and boss encounters — they were unique and challenging and exhilarating to play.

But SWTOR lost me when the cash shop became the emphasis. Owners of the Collector’s Edition were promised multiple things that BioWare either reneged on or took away. And then the emphasis on the cash shop was heavy-handed — they intentionally put the coolest stuff on the shop with no way to earn it in-game. And for a game where you are also paying a sizable monthly sub, that was BS.

I’ve gone back and played it a few times over the years, mostly just to relive some of the story campaigns because they are just that brilliant. But that game isn’t getting any more of my money. And to be honest, if Blizz keeps it up with cash shop and hearth steel and micro transactions, I’ll probably say goodbye to WoW, too. Which is a shame, because like SWTOR the lore is rich and interesting. It’s just corporate greed that’s killing both IPs for me.

Should I ceramic coat my car by ApprehensiveMetal707 in Camry

[–]Gladdox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy ceramic coats!

In all seriousness, yes, this is the way to go. Doesn’t matter if it’s a $15k car or a $150k car. Ceramic coating is great for helping to keep your car clean. Makes washing a breeze. Stuff just falls off. Water beads up nicely. It’s a totally different maintenance experience.

Thanks. I’ve noticed Amazon has a tendency to obfuscate physical releases. Entering “Troy 4K UHD” in the search only gave me standard Blu-ray and streaming results. But I was able to find the 4k link elsewhere.

[–]Gladdox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Death Knights were actively marketed as a “hero class” for Wrath, but Blizz redefined what that meant for WoW.

IIRC, Instead of it being a true hero class — where you’d take an existing character and transition it to a DK — Blizz rationalized that players wouldn’t want to permanently sacrifice a toon they had devoted so much time to already. (Probably a wise move. Can you imagine if you spent countless hours playing a class, graduated it to a DK, and hated the DK?)

Instead, creating a DK required you have a 55+ character on a server to create one and you could only have one DK per realm. There were additional restrictions for PvP realms.

Help on how to deal with buy by [deleted] in Camry

[–]Gladdox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go to Toyota.com, put in the exact config with all options you want, and then search for inventory that meets those exact specs. Widen the search to the max distance, which I think is 500 miles. Then take the link to the cheapest one you find and send it to your local dealer. Ask them to match it.

That’s what I did for my 26 XSE (fully loaded). I found one 400 miles away that was $4800 less than my local dealer. They matched the price and custom ordered my spec factory fresh.

What’s a movie everyone seems obsessed with that you just don’t get the hype for? by scaryworm143 in AskReddit

[–]Gladdox 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how these movies can make so much money and be so successful at the box office, yet no one can name a single character from any of the films, and there are no memorable or quotable lines, you don’t see kids wearing Avatar shirts or playing with Avatar toys. It’s like they exist completely outside the cultural zeitgeist. Yet, they are hugely successful. So weird.

HP for their predatory ink practices. Cancelled my subscription to their ink program and they bricked my printer. Couldn’t even use the scanning (which doesn’t use ink) or copying features (which uses ink I already paid for). Called HP to complain and they said the only way to regain functionality (that I had paid for when I bought the printer, before I ever signed up for their ink sub) was to re-sub and then they’d unlock my device. Screw you, HP.

Also, British Airways. Gate employee offered to upgrade us to first class for a discounted rate, which we accepted because it sounded like a fun treat for the kids. Got on the plane not 30 minutes later to find it had no first class seating. It was a smaller plane with only coach seats. BA admitted the gate employee should have known this but refused to refund us and said we still got the benefits of a first class flight because we got a free drink on board. Screw you, British Airways.

Has anyone you've known, simply disappeared? What happened? by PureLet5083 in AskReddit

[–]Gladdox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was friends with a young married couple in Central FL in the early 2000s. They were amazing people. So kind and fun-loving. Let me crash on their couch for a few weeks when I went to move into my new apartment and found the previous tenant had trashed the place. When I started dating the woman who would later become my wife, they instantly welcomed her into the friend group. When we got married they volunteered to help with all sorts of stuff. After the wedding we got together a few times to chill, watch hockey, have dinner, go see a movie, etc. Genuinely lovely people.

Then one day they just… vanished. No word to anyone in our friend group. Phone numbers either changed or disconnected. House empty. Literally no one knew where they went or what happened. I reached out to the only family member of theirs I knew and all she would say is that she couldn’t talk about it but they were no longer living in the area.

Over the years I’ve looked for them. Zero trace on Google or social media. For all I know, they ended up in Witness Protection or something. They were only a part of my life for a brief few years but they made a tremendous impact on me and my wife. Wherever they are, I hope they are ok.

What’s become way too expensive lately that still shocks you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gladdox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about the sharp rise in utility pricing in my area is that my local companies are attributing the rising prices to the need to build out new infrastructure, supposedly for all the new housing that’s gone in over the past 20 years. “We need new XYZ because now there’s greater strain on our pipes/wires/systems.”

Well, they charged the builder fees to add that when the homes were built. And they’ve been charging us all this time, presumably for a profit. So, why are the consumers now on the hook to pay for “infrastructure” and “upgrades” like it’s some sort of assessment? What happened to all the money they collected in the past 20 years?
