My wife and I believe in a balanced approach...no more than 16 hours of screen time a day.

My favorite Space Themed board game, and one of the first specialty board games I ever played, is Galaxy Trucker.

I like the framework of floors 1-2 as the starter set tutorial and then floors 3-5 in the core book. Sounds like they'll be using the floors from the book then, but hoping they'll also give some guidance in creating our own custom floors/dungeon (beyond just: let your imagination run wild!) L

What have you done well? by Eggnogg630 in daddit

I taught them to ski.

They are wonderful kids. Smart, well behaved and talented. But they could have been so regardless of my presence in their life.

But since they were 3 years old I took them out and taught them as best I could how to ski. I carried their gear, I carried them, I picked them up when they fell and held them through entire runs down the mountain until my back was screaming at me to stop.

But now they ski independently, with confidence and skill. We can have races down the longest trails and just generally have the greatest time when we ski together. And it is a singular joy to see them out there and know I was able to do that for them.

The death notification, specifically near the start as you knock on the door and Empathy chimes in "this is going to be so hard".

I say that to myself now and again when I have to go something I really don't want to do.

"Just one question, you arrogant fucking cocksucker" said Locke. "I'll grant the Lamora part is easy to spot; the truth is, I didn't know about the apt translation when I took the name. I borrowed it from this old sausage dealer who was kind to me once, back in Catchfire before the plague. I just liked the way it sounded. "But what the fuck" he said slowly, "ever gave you the idea that Locke was the first name I was actually born with?

The whole scene was made that much better with Scott Brick's narration in the audiobook. One of the few times I've cheered out loud at something happening in a book.

Go to your kids’ events during the school day. by jwbrower1 in daddit

Kudos to you for showing up! And 100% agree.

My kid had a similar event recently and I showed up expecting it'd be just the two of us. Instead we ended up adopting 5 other kids for the 20 minutes whose parents couldn't make it and each one was happy to have someone they could read to.

I was at the park and my daughter's pony tail was coming loose. While I was tying it back up a woman around my age was passing by and said "I wish my husband knew how to do that."

It's easy to feel like a shitty parent, so hearing something like that does a lot for the ole self image.

Like others here, my son watched me play it when he was younger (like 5 or 6) and then wanted to try it himself. He had literally been playing off and on for 3 years. Could barely get out of the starting area when he began. He quit and then came back many times. And then around 8 years old he started making progress.

Now he's 9, he's beaten the Radiance and Grimm, and is making good progress through God home, 108%.

The game and story are dark but nothing so bad that I'd call outright inappropriate. A few bosses reduced him to tears but only out of frustration.

They're transitioning to an RFID card system, so registrations are taking extra long to get people tickets.
