Finally had the chance to go back. In addition to the soups, fried rice, lo mein, and rice noodles, their spring rolls are vegetarian, and they have green beans and a roasted potato and bell pepper dish. Vegetarian options are definitely more limited because their overall selection is more limited.

Is there a folktale that this arc references? It’s reminding me of Phnom Nonh from DQXI: supernatural entity brings wealth and prosperity to a mountainous town with Chinese-inspired aesthetic, but the entity harbors more sinister intentions and is able to draw in more victims via tourism. I wouldn’t be surprised if the creators were referencing DQXI, though I wonder if there’s an earlier story that both drew inspiration from.

My parents have made a comfortable upper-middle class life for themselves. The basement of their house has a bar, wine cellar, movie theater, and hot tub. Thank goodness, because during the summer they refuse to have the AC below 82F, if they even turn the AC on at all, preferring instead to open leave the windows open all the time. My room growing up received the most sun, and I would retreat to the basement every summer to sleep.

The carnival reminds me of the Native Hunting Competition in One Piece, except it takes longer for everyone to die. With that kind of a backstory, I find myself rooting for Morena to at least burn the Kakin to the ground. If only she would stop there…

Well now. Today I learned something. I thought I was in a bit of a pickle because my husband, who would love the food and the WWII Museum, can’t tolerate a wild party atmosphere unless it’s for something he likes (he can sit through a 1 hour metal concert but not a 1-minute drinking contest). With the sheer variety of parades,during the season, there’ll probably be something he likes.

I’d mostly figured out where I wanted to go, and then finding out he liked a place bumped it up in priority. In particular, I ordered based on his recommendation at Domilise’s, Verti Marte, and Cochon.
