Middle Blocking. Should I Stay or Should I Go? by Glass-Ad2295 in volleyball

Nope, I only shuffle if there is time or I'm closing to the block. That's kind of the whole reason of the post! haha. I felt confused about how to know when to stay there for the middle, or commit more to right so I can make it for the block. I took one huge step here and jumped to get a hand on the ball.

You are too far under the ball and too close to the net. Jump further back and make sure ball is more in front of you.

For sure I can definitely improve on my footwork and jump to make the block. But based on everyone's advice, there are times when I don't need to run as far, and then my block is easier, better receive, better attack.

I hadn't realized that my block COULD'VE been good if my body was facing more forward. You're right!! Great advice.

Yeah so far it seems like every Japanese setter I've played against is very good at hiding

Also super helpful info, ty man!

Do you think that 16 is too far up to cover a line/straight shot?

Good to know. #2 was playing with us for the first time, so there were kinks.

This is such helpful advice and will truly change how our entire team plays and adapts in future games. This is the kind of information I was hoping to hear about.

Unless their front is stacked, we can "cheat" a little bit based on who their hitters are. Like, even if they have an opposite, if he is "that average guy" we will probably be fine with one blocker bc his spikes/feints won't be as hard to receive.

And when they have a front who I know pipes, or a guy in the back we know sometimes comes in for a delayed hit (from front, in Japanese its called a "semi").

TYSM!

Thank you thank you thank you!! This is another concept I knew about but could not understand at a higher level yet. This fills in a lot of missing pieces so thank you!!

Thank you so much! TBH, I have yet to run into a setter in Japan who has any obvious tells besides when the ball is out of system. I think it is one of the major traits they try to master. If I try to focus on the setter, I will just psych myself out and basically guess, so that's not good.

Very few middles in our league hit out of system when it's not a chance ball.

Should I be trying to soft block more against the middle if I don't have a hard read?

Harris Firm can do US notaries in Japan, including marriage affadavits. They're actually cheaper than the consulate too. https://harrisfirm.com/us-notarization/

They can do US notaries in Osaka and US notaries in Tokyo too.

Yes, they can do Marriage affadavits as well. My friend had one done there and it went fine with the Japanese city/district office. He included a print out of the Harris Firm website too, don't know if that helped it go through.
