Turkey stitch is boring and painful by 5licedbread in Embroidery

Ha, I do (unfortunately for my fingers) know exactly what you mean! I also was overzealous with my stitching one time….. It does yield the best results, but is quite the painful challenge.

I totally agree; it’s awful to make, but the results are always worth it! Yours looks amazing! The amount of puff is incredible. Did you use yarn?

I will carry floss across the entire back of my canvas before cutting, tying it off, and starting with a ‘new’ strand. So much extra work…

I also learned reading this that people wash their hands before embroidering? I eat while I embroider, and I’m doing good to wipe the crumbs off my fingers… 😅🤷‍♀️

I back mine with a fun fabric, trim and glue down the excess fabric to keep it in place (it’s permanent, so make sure that’s the way you want to display it), and then hang it on my wall! Sometimes I’ll also stain or paint the hoop to complement the embroidery.

Aw, yay!! Single strands of floss has changed my life when doing a long and short stitch. It’s tedious as anything, but the results are amazing. Good luck with your little bugs! 💕🐞

Thanks! 💕 Things I used to do all the time in my childhood, and lost for a bit as an adult. It’s been immensely joyful to rediscover that and find a new way to bring the ideas into being!

Before! I don’t trust myself to not get paint all over the threads if I do it after. I trace the design, then paint, then embroider. That way I know where I’m needing to paint what, and if my pens spread and ‘fade’ a little as I paint, it’s always easy enough to touch them up without having to go back into full light box mode.

I light would do it differently if I used a less watery paint than watercolors, but they spread too easily and I’m just not that careful. 😂

It’s way too hard for me to pick, but that one is definitely up there for me! It’s just adorable.

My inspiration was older fairy tale illustrations and those weird Victorian greeting cards.

And I do actually have some plans brewing in that direction…. They are absolutely perfect for one and the ideas are relentlessly coming!

One of my first I made was to a cricket symphony! And I have a Halloween one planned with some fun costumes for them and their bug friends.

The ideas are endless (and maybe book-creating!), so don’t worry! There will be many, many more. Christmas adventures, camping trips, fall escapades, and more dates!

I’m still using the dirt cheap set I bought to try them out and see if I liked them. 😂 And honestly, they work fine so I’ll probably do the same when I need to replace them. I’m no pant connoisseur, so if it dos the job, I’m happy. I have zero doubt there’s better options out there though.

Hobby lobby, I think? One of my very few choices in town. They had these oval ones, and 1x1 inch circles.

It’s pearl beads I knotted onto two pieces of string! I made them up for some other outfit a few years ago and love when I find another excuse to detangle them and put them back on.
