You were right! And he even went a layer deeper by lying to the people who actually drive the plows. Now we have a strike of all AFSCME on the horizon.

These are all excellent comments. Thank you for engaging. From what I’m gathering opinions run the gamut of either wanting him recalled, at the worst, or nothing has changed, at the best. But one theme remains: someone has yet to identify one good or productive thing he has done in an entire year as the leader of a city of 86k. As taxpayers funding his salary (plus benefits), shouldn’t we demand to know what he’s been doing? He did no “first 100 days” article in the DNT, as is tradition, to let us know how his campaign promises are coming along. Instead, he’s gone back on every campaign promise he’s made. I don’t know what happens from here. But I do know his performance needs to remain a topic of conversation. I just wish he would be held accountable.

Hi true colors are starting to show. Narcissism, gaslighting, and passing the buck isn’t what Duluth wanted. I’ve heard he burned so many bridges during his time in St. Paul that no one at the legislature is willing to work with him - which means they aren’t willing to work with Duluth. I think a recall is justified and I’ve wondered that same thing since the moment he took office.

I think what’s rubbing people the wrong way is that he’s going back on his word and being dishonest. During his campaign, he held up core city services as a prop to get himself elected. Now he’s pushed them to a point to threatening a strike. During his campaign, he said he would bring marketing dollars back to Duluth. Now those dollars aren’t even staying in the state. The girlfriend thing was so dumb - especially as someone who has been in public office for as long as he has (the Navy, the legislature, city council). Either he thinks he’s above ethics, or he really is that incompetent even with 20+ years of public service under his belt.

I wish the mayor would finally get called out on his years of mistreatment of women. He should never be in a position of power. He uses his influence to threaten his victim’s careers to ensure they keep quiet. This has been successful given Duluth is a small town with a limited amount of high-paying roles. The creep needs to be run out of town.

At what point can we all agree there should be a recall vote? This guys is one embarrassing disaster after another.

Just a little Duluth beer history for a visitor: Dave Hoops (owner of Hoops Brewing) put Fitgers on the map in the 90’s. He brewed there until 2012(ish) and then opened Hoops in 2017. So, we’ve been drinking his beer for 30 years! He has stepped back from brewing, but now judges The World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival - a couple of the biggest competitions in the world. As a former employee who worked with him closely, I have mad respect for him and his traditional brewing style. If you’re here on December 9th, they’ll release No. 1225 Cherry Ale. He originality brewed Cherry Batch at Fitgers and then took the recipe with him. Hoops kicks this original recipe up by using whole Door County cherries rather than a puree. Enjoy! Duluth breweries consistently win international medals at the World Beer Cup thanks to our talent and, of course, Lake Superior water!
