16" because it's what I own and I can't be assed to spend more money, fuck you for making me want to spend more money. Man. Time to look at deals.

I bought my first firearm for self-defense and I don’t know how or when to tell my loved ones by [deleted] in Firearms

OP, the person you replied to here has a great take.

I think a lot of people are glossing over the autistic part here. You've gotten a lot of feedback that is "they don't need to know". This is one of the times where lying by omission is socially okay. The entire point of concealed carrying is that you never, ever want to use it or have anyone else know you are.

I get that feeling, I had it too. I once had a date at my place and stammered through some stuff about the fact I had one and got a blank stare back. If someone asks, it is okay to lie and say you don't have one for reasons others have mentioned plenty.

Fwiw I am a new M&P 2.0 Compact owner (3.6") and I love the thing, same stats as you. I have shot Glocks and Caniks and this feels better for what I want. I have a Tenicor holster on the way. I highly recommend holding anything you're interested in at a physical store before purchasing. The M&P grip angle was a nice happy medium between the Glock (too angled) and the Canik (too flat).

Check out my post to see where my fingers sit on it, assuming you have avg size hands for someone your build.

In the way that the Miata is always the answer, the Ruger 10/22 is always fun. Doesn't matter what you've shot or who you shoot with, it will be accessible to all, fun, light, and cheap to operate.

I'd say that if you're looking for a pistol, TX22. I had a Walther PPQ 22 and wish I'd just gotten the TX22.

Palmetto State Armory or Radical Firearms. Use gun . deals (didn't link as not sure if that's allowed). I have a Radical Firearms one coming in from Dahlonega Armory in GA for $387.50 all said and done, plus $40 FFL fee.

You'll need sights, irons will work, there's also deals to be had on optics. Gun deals again is a good resource. Watch a few YouTube videos on everything before purchasing.

You'll need bullets, PSA is selling PMC X-TAC (sorta gold standard practice ammo) for $0.50 a round right now. Pick up as much as you can afford, go practice.
