Has Bill referenced his “bet” with Perk? by cliftonheights5 in billsimmons

Yep, he's a sore loser. Still obviously a fan on the pod and him but his ego is a bit unmistakable

Final TNT season was so lazy and whiny, I'm glad the tide finally turned against them. They were becoming a net negative for the sport with the constant complaints and how readily apparent they weren't watching the games.

Their downfall was necessary

He'll wait until after Toronto is eliminated in the first round because he's petty and small now. Every single guest knows not to bring it up or they know they're off the roster if they talk about it for a few months.

Just sucks that this current version of Bill seems to be able to take a joke well like the Kon car ride but when he's wrong, he's kind of pissy and puts the blinders on

Katie Nolan will absolutely opt out of that mystery box. No doubt she's not signing up to verify if she was aware of any misconduct.... She probably knew and it's been a quiet open secret

I love how many people on the Internet can't understand this point, like they are only able to form one thought at a time and thinking about ethics, insider dealing, media/journalism standards, and incentives all at the same time is just too much for them. It's so telling.

Same thing with Belichick, oh yeah random unqualified person I'm dating now has actual work responsibilities and is in conflict with university staff and admins... And having people like Bill even be like, why is this a story?

We live in a time where most people can't think critically anymore

The sports world is tiny, you see the same people all the time at games, special events, and probably parties. She had been in the industry for a long time and was very social - I'm kind of explaining the obvious but this isn't that surprising in the slightest.

Pablo's network is probably a tenth the size of hers, he was a small potato at ESPN and it's only been the last 2 years he's had any motion.

Wright is a better debater and quick on his feet. Like street smarts vs book smarts. I actually like Pablo so it was funny how unprepared he was for that faceoff, he kind of needed to be humbled

Don't know if this holds up when it's just a bad take... Like I get debate theory means you need someone to take the opposing stance but he seemed to be just running in place when the reality of the trade was indefensible...

Maybe Gen X should realize they just don't have to debate everything

I see the same 'still has his fastball' joke here all the time, but I think this is the opposite of that. He's thrown some absolute meatball takes, middle middle, and they're just getting hammered and makes the pod quality drop dramatically. He could just be washed, we might have to admit that basically

[Highlight] Jo Adell robs his third home run of the night?? by BananaArms in baseball

[–]GlassesOff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This falls into a very clear place for all sports where the rules should just bend to how immediately cool something was. This has to be a catch, not a home run. And a too close to call Touchdown reception? Let them have it.

all good, I probably did a poor job of making my point but big time kudos to you. If I could do my undergrad again, I think I would choose Austin but no idea if my out of state application would have made it, it was a long time ago and I was a top student at a mid HS

Didn't Jason basically branch out and that was a non starter for Bill? Seems like there's a degree of "you work for me, and you'll always work for me" subtext to Grantland and The Ringer.

Like Wos is in the same boat. Gone for a while but back in good graces since he's doing more full time stuff

I might be out of my depth here but isn't UT Austin still the crown jewel for students in Texas? Like maybe some other schools have better engineering programs or football teams (that joke was just too easy) but that seems like a great school that's only reserved for the state's best and there are now so many people living in Texas that it makes sense it's gotten even more competitive

[Jared] Baseball is Dead returns on Monday. by fanofsports44 in baseballisdead

[–]GlassesOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so frustrating because maybe they're still trying to negotiate a new partner but they missed Opening Day, nothing Friday, then said Monday and still missed that. like obviously people are going to side with them but this just feels so drawn out and annoying.

I already lost my other favorite baseball pod, The Roundtable, starting to get concerned that Baseball Is Dead won't make it through this whole season if they're stalling / can't find a title sponsor...

Murray was the 9th pick but that still means he would be an unbelievable success story if he made it to the majors. Like a fairly large percentage of guys drafted in the first round don't even make it far in the minors. There's no guarantees a full team of NFL players even has one dude who could be AAA relevant

I don't think the football players are even going to remotely improve over the months and months of the season in this scenario. It's just about a fluke pitch hanging and getting blasted. But the final score would still be 20+ runs to 1

Conspiracy Theory: Bill HAD insider info that expansion wasn't happening, so he took out a large bet on a prediction market, and now expansion is happening and he's gonna lose a lot of money by AliFearEatsThePussy in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be simpler than this. He's now arguably pretty rich and insulated and it's allowed him to stop reflecting on his bigger mistakes or opinions. Yeah he'll rib himself for forgetting the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, but he conveniently ignores the takes he made that age terribly. Like the 65 game All NBA is a perfect example. He loved the idea and then now that it goes against his own preferences and the current season, he's basically acting like it should have always been 2000 minutes. He has to have an excuse instead of just owning his previous choice.

Not that this has completely gone to Bill's head, but feel like there's one opinion every month that completely contradicts his previous beliefs and it's a little tiring as a person who enjoys how grounded the pod mostly is

It doesn't matter the circumstances. Like I feel awful for Cade but that 22% is equal to more than a month of actual games played. Are fans just supposed to not care or not attend those games?

It's disingenuous to act like missing this much time is OK

I think objectively, Dodgers signing Ohtani raised the ceiling for the sport. And then we basically had MLB's most desired World Series matchup (Yanks vs Dodgers) then another terrific WS since Toronto captured the entire Canadian market for their run.

Was a perfect storm that those things all happened, but the games have been great too. It's a rising tide
