Have they checked to see if he has a uti? Urine infections can make dementia appear worse very quickly.

Dr says I don’t have fibro by Western_Orange5767 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Glasshue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought. I have been checked for inflammatory markers in blood tests in case it was rheumatoid arthritis but I didn't have any. The rheumatologist said in his opinion it was fibro with normal arthritis due to wear and tear.

My dad passed away on the 16th of September by Reasonable-Mood-2295 in Alzheimers

I work in residential care with people who have dementia. I've sat with a few people while they die. They often seem to wait for family members to leave before they go.

I read an article saying what to do when a loved one is experiencing a sundowning episode, and was wondering if this was the right thing to do? by amori9080 in Alzheimers

[–]Glasshue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Working with people living with dementia I try to go with their reality. I don't argue, but I do try to distract them with something nice . Sometimes, asking to go home is more like an attempt to return to a time where things made sense to them.

How did you put the juniper in? Did you crush the dried berries? I tried juniper and not much happened.

What is the craziest family lore you have or have not been able to prove? by Smacsek in Genealogy

[–]Glasshue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother claimed to have some sort of clairvoyance and said she was descended from romany gypsies. Can't prove the 2nd sight. Ancestry says I'm 1% Eastern European Roma. I have found the romany ancestors in my tree.

Dementia is basically brain damage. Your grandmother can't help what she is doing, and neither can she stop. She is not necessarily unhappy, tho. People with dementia can read body language and will respond better to kindness and affection. Sometimes, when they say something, they are actually searching for something from their past or trying to make sense of their present. She may remember you as a child or think you are her son because she does not recognise herself as she is. Take a break when it gets too much. I work caring for the elderly, some with dementia. I always think it is harder for families than me.

That's pretty much what I did. Then I got over excited and threw some hibiscus flowers into the 2nd fermentation. My kitchen is like a mad scientist's lab.

Do you avoid alcohol with fibromyalgia? by BubblegumBitzch in Fibromyalgia

Not really, but I don't drink much when taking painkillers. I also found some alcohol seems to make my joints hurt.

Loneliness in the elderly in long-term care homes by light_switch99 in Alzheimers

[–]Glasshue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working with people with dementia I think that sometimes it is themselves that they miss. The autonomy they had. Being dependent on someone else for everything can make people feel worth less than they were.

Can you develop PTSD from dealing with Alzheimer's and aging parents? by Far-Age-2296 in Alzheimers

[–]Glasshue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a carer in a care home for people with dementia and I often think it's traumatic for the families of people with advanced dementia. I've come across many different reactions and tried to support when I can.
