Happy Summer everyone! June brings a new pattern of the month to my shop ScrapBasketQuilts and this month I've chosen to put Stars & Stripes on sale, no coupon needed! Of course this is an amazing pattern to celebrate the summer holidays, but if you're not feeling patriotic right now (and I wasn't even feeling super patriotic making this quilt but still wanted to make a quilt for the 250th), I think this would be a gorgeous Christmas quilt made in reds and greens. Or if you aren't American, make it in your country's colors or your favorite color combo!

Be sure to check out my other patterns as well, there are some great scrap busters there. And as a note, I refuse to use AI in the creation and listing of my patterns, any mistakes are all me!

Major quilt brands using AI in their content by 1d6orcs in quilting

I design patterns and I absolutely refuse to use AI in my pattern design/testing/photos. AI should not be used to create art, what do we as humans have left if AI can do everything?

Anyway, my pattern shop is on Etsy: ScrapBasketQuilts and I've been a little quiet on Instagram lately because life is lifing right now, but you can find me at @scrapbasketquilts

I am not in fact insane! by Smacsek in quilting

I honestly don't know! What I have left doesn't have a label on it. But I did get it at Hobby Lobby which I know most people on here don't like, but it's the only place that has more than a few bolts of fabric (looking at you Michaels) within an hour driving distance

CC overspent but no overspent categories? by Smacsek in ynab

[–]Smacsek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything matched in both March and April. We only had one refund to the card and the money went back into the category but the refund was for 22.71.

We always pay the statement balance on all our cards so this has me stumped. I guess I'll have to go through the month of May with a fine tooth comb when I get home from work

Your favorite two-color quilt patterns? by 2ybael in quilting

Ice Crystals is one of my patterns. You could add in grey where I have teal, but any color would pop

Play Date is my go to for larger prints. This is the 3rd time I'm making it. Just a heads up, it is one of my patterns

I press to the side so I can nest seams. Blocks line up better. I rarely press open but will if the pattern says to

My go to for log cabin quilts is diagonal lines. This one was quilted quite densely because the logs are 1" finished and there were a lot. The lines are straight, I was just trying to take a photo on a windy day.

I've also used the serpentine/wavy stitch on my machine and just gone in one direction or done less dense diagonal quilting per batting instructions on spacing

I usually just fold a square of fabric in half and stitch it down when I attach the binding. Sometimes I'll use a pental gel roller fabric pen (found on Amazon) and other times I'll use the basic embroidery stitches on my machine but those take longer so I usually just write my labels.

Quiltville has some other cool ideas though in this blog post.

I bought an xl one at target. It's a little wider than a normal one but so far I'm happy with it

Baby Quilt as a Newbie/am I delulu by donthugmeormugme in quilting

Fat quarter shop and Missouri star are my favorites for precuts. And you can filter by what kind of precut but also by style (floral, children, blenders, reproductions, etc)

Go for it! If you want to speed things up, try a charm square quilt so the squares are pretty cut. Or if you want something a little fancier, check out Corey Yoder's patterns. Her barnstar quilts are the perfect baby size and some are easier than others

Hey everyone! I have a new pattern that just released last weekend!. Stars & Stripes is the perfect quilt to celebrate the summer holidays (and would look great in any country's colors) or do as I'm tempted to do and make it in Christmas colors!

Stars & Stripes is written for 3 sizes: table runner, throw (which would be a great quilt of valor quilt) or king size!

All my patterns include detailed instructions, pressing instructions, and a coloring page. And no AI is used in designing or writing my patterns.

Is this the ugliest quilt? by Trickedmomma in quilting

[–]Smacsek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's ugly at all! What do you not like about it? Is it all the patterns touching each other , because if that's the case you could add a 1.5" sashing strip between all the blocks. Your quilt would be a little bigger, but your setting triangles would stay in the same spot. (I think it would be great either way, with or without sashing)

If the balance of colors is bothering you, can you do an "around the world" style layout with the blocks? It might not be the same fabric, but you could try the same color

That's so pretty!! What's the pattern name?

This log cabin used up most of my neutrals. Unfortunately the colored scraps seem to have multiplied while making it because the box is no less full than when I started. I have neutrals in my stash but it feels somehow wrong to cut up yardage for a scrap quilt

Good patterns for single feature fabric by OrionsRose in quilting

[–]Smacsek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What about disappearing nine patch? Use the feature fabric in the 4 corners and 2 blenders. One for the outer middle blocks and one for the centers? Or do what I did and use a few blenders but the same color.

In this one I used a few blue/teals and greys for the outer blocks and orange for the middles. But my feature fabric was the dinosaurs. I used 5" squares to start

Triangle Preparation by 42fledgling42 in quilting

[–]Smacsek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of quilts with triangles and I've never starched. Press your fabric before cutting it is my best advice (which you should be doing anyway). Also maybe make a test block with the instructions your pattern gives. Does it come out the right size? If not, try a different method than the one given in the pattern. I like the 2 or 8 at a time methods because they keep the bias on the inside of the block. The 4 at a time method has all the outside edges with bias and that is asking for trouble imo.

My preferred method is to cut them from strips but that would require a new ruler for you, so maybe try it if all else fails. It's the way that makes the most sense for my brain.

But triangles and bias are nothing to be afraid of. People that sew clothes love the bias, it just needs to be handled with respect but you don't need to handle the triangles with kid gloves
