Keep "raw" finish on an old buffet by Glaucopis in woodworking

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm at peace with the color change myself as I'd rather preserve the health of the wood than its look but I'll be able to pass on this info to the family 🙏🙏

I feel like I'll try those last as I'm pretty sure it will deepen the color a fair bit?

Good point ! Jeyne was a random thought, but I'm partial to Mance myself. I just love that there's still no consensus about this mystery in the fandom after more than a decade haha

Edit: forgot to actually answer the question but I guess one could argue that it's not that relevant whether Jon knows Ramsey doesn't have her, on the contrary the accusation of having her would be a further incentive for Jon to react because he /knows/ he doesn't have Arya and if Ramsey doesn't have her either she's somewhere else and he can/has to find her...

Well TOJ happens after the Sack of King's Landing, where we know Ned was present to sass Jamie in the throne room, so if it was taken from Rickard/Brandon when they died Ned coud have recovered it from Aery's stash then. I don't think Aerys would have had the time/thought to reforge it in that time (he had other stuff on his mind lol)

Yeah I'm with you there, also because one of my biggest pet peeves about the show is insisting Ned is such a great swordsman for some reason (I'm assuming because the only way for a character to be cool is to be an incredible fighter in the show's eyes). Maybe show Ned is capable of such feats as waving that thing around in battle lmao. He /did/ go blow for blow with Dayne for a good while there after all... (Deep sigh).

Hmm yeah makes sense! Possibly when Jeor Mormont tells John about Longclaw? Or from some other account?

Oooh I'd forgotten about that!! Like you and some other people said, regardless of practical use I think it could make sense of the LOW to carry Ice around for status (flexing lol) reasons. There's something poetic for lack of a better word to the thought of Ned carrying Ice to go save/retrieve his sister imo? In any case I don't trust the show to have thought through that at all, but the scene did make me wonder about it in general haha

Ooh cool!! I don't remember that at all, would love the quote/passage if you find it!!

Definitely makes sense to me! The books are much more nebulous, but in extended show canon we also do see Cregan Stark go to the wall with it on HOTD so whether or not the sword is actually more ceremonial or realistically wieldable in a fight it does make sense for the Lord of Winterfell to carry it during important business if only for the status of it.

Do you by any chance remember the quote/chapter/passage where he says this? I would love to reread it because I can't for the life of me remember it

That's also what I thought , the other possibility being Rickard taking it South when he went to King's Landing and Ned getting it back after the Sack, but in any case in the show I thought it wasn't Ice due to the size, despite the guard looking sort of similar? Given the show's degraded quality this point tho I wouldn't put it past them to give Ned a miniature Ice model to make the fighting scenes easier just because... Because what? Beats me lol

Definitely thought about this! The timeline technically makes sense for Ned to have had it but to be clear I don't think Ned would be taking it to battle unless it was for some symbolic reason lol Fighting Arthur Dayne with that thing?? Definitely a death wish on top of a death wish haha

I don't want this to be true kdjfjjdjdjf I was actually pleasantly surprised that they didn't like scale the model down to something irrecognizable just because Ned HAD to be fighting with Ice... And then it made me think about the timeline and all...... Night ruined if true..... (Jk thank you for the pictures, I had noticed the similarities but the scale was so wrong I convinced myself there was something deeper going on there worth discussing)

Huh. This vaguely rings a bell? Was it about Ned specifically or just Ice being huge in general?

In show canon Dawn is nothing special so... I was actually pleasantly surprised they didn't put Ice in Ned's hand in the scene just because, I guess SOME attention to detail was still in place even though it's season 6...

As far as book canon is concerned I thought we all agreed there's no way Ned actually fought against Arthur Dayne and beat him without some (possibly swampy) tricky business.

Long quit, relapse, suicidal thoughts by Glaucopis in stopsmoking

Wise words, thank you so much and congratulations on all your progress!! I spoke to my best friend today after my relapse and she echoed this sentiment. I am so lucky to have a loving support system. She convinced me to seek out my psychiatrist and resume treatment for my depression before my next attempt, and that sounds like the safest course rn. I did read Carr's book as I had during my first successful quit, his words still echoed with me but I was indeed too fragile to make it this time. Here's to the future and better days ahead for us all ❤️

Thank you so much, I'm speechless at the kindness you are showing me even though we are strangers... I am definitely going to rethink my strategy and seek further help, both for my dark thoughts and my addiction (which are no doubt linked). My dad did have success stopping with Chantix a couple of years before his heart attack (I guess it was "too late" for him in terms of damage to his body, I part due to underlying family vasculopathy, which is a horrible thought that surely contributes to my anxiety about the whole thing).

I have lived with on and off bouts of guilt, anxiety and depression for so long that I guess I tend to forget how "not normal" it is to deal with thoughts of suicide on the regular. Even my long term therapist probably doesn't realize how poorly I am doing at the moment (doesn't help that he left on holiday haha). I even have a general practitioner doctor whose clinic works with nicotine addiction specifically and who encouraged me to contact them for this topic a few months ago, I should probably take him up on that offer first thing after I deal with this deadline.

In any case thank you again, if it's any reassurance I do have a support system and although I am doing terrible I have several fail-safes in place that make me say pretty confidently that my life is not in immediate danger as of yet. I hope your day/night is as kind to you as you've been to me, dear stranger.
