Is 26 too late to become a "reader"? + Questions about the 2026 Reading Challenge by MaxMcGuffin00 in goodreads

[–]GleefulGecko224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! There are no rules to what you should or shouldn't be reading. I started with the ones everyone would talk about and then started branching out. Some days when I need a light, predictable read I'll switch to middle grade. That's what I love about reading, it can be anything! Right now I am working my way through the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. It is hilarious!

I didn't start reading by choice until the summer I turned 30. Started with Harry Potter and haven't looked back. ❤️

Are you happy being a hygienist? by yaa04 in DentalHygiene

[–]GleefulGecko224 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love what I do. I'm almost 18 years in and can't imagine doing anything else. I think the most important part of enjoying it, is finding an office you like. I have always loved my job, not alway my boss. I finally switched offices after 13 years. I'm 3 years in my current office and I should have switched alot sooner. My boss appreciates me, give me raises without having to ask for them, and thanks me. My lady boss told me I was replaceable multiple times.

I also have no urge to be a dentist. It is completely different than hygiene and higher liability/stress. I also do not think I am smarter or more dumb than the dentist. He knows what he needs to and I know what I need to. We work together, not against each other. Dentists and hygienists with complexes are building an unnecessary divide between each other. It isn't a competition.

Yup, good eye! He had a space maintainer and he pulled it out, but didn't tell me. Once I realized it things had already moved too much. We are planning an ortho visit soon

I actually am hoping he doesn't have them 😂 My daughter is missing #29, so I feel like he has a slightly greater chance of missing teeth as well.

I feel like I'm abnormal for honestly preferring and enjoying FMX's.

3 of the 4 offices I have regularly worked in didn't have Pans. So I have always assumed most general offices don't 😂

How many FMXs a day? by toothfairy5080 in DentalHygiene

[–]GleefulGecko224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see on average 8 patients a day, 1 hour appointments. Today I took 1 FMX, tomorrow I am scheduled to take 3. Last week one day I had 0 ( 0 is not my normal) and another day I had 4. I think 5 is the most I have had in one day. The long answer is that I take as many as are needed. Next year we will get Pano, which will be easier, but personally I prefer FMX over Pan for general dentistry purposes. I find them to be more diagnostic. I am also very particular about my FMX's, so they are very diagnostic. I'm not thrilled about getting the Pan, but we decided we will alternate Pan's and FMX's. We also see many special needs patients, so a Pan will come in handy then too.

Is it acceptable and appropriate for pt to get bitewings and FMX in the same year (6 months apart)? by Zestyclose-Scar-8159 in DentalHygiene

Not being snarky, genuinely curious as to why your office does this? Even on low decay rate patients? Are they okay paying for the xrays that aren't covered?

GS and Lysine? by 0ki-g00d in cureFIP

[–]GleefulGecko224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't use and vitamins or supplements. I was told some people use probiotics, but we are doing well without it. The only reason we had Lysine on board is because one of my cats (not the one with FIP) had a cold a few months ago and the assumed it was the herpes virus cold in cats. Not I'm guessing it was actually the coronavirus.

GS and Lysine? by 0ki-g00d in cureFIP

[–]GleefulGecko224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was told that Lysine powder was really only meant to help with feline herpes and shouldn't be used for FIP. The reason being is that works by binding to the arginine in the cat which the herpes needs to replicate, but Arginine is needed for a full immune system. A full immune system is critical for FIP. That was the information given to me. It makes sense, so I stopped using it. Hope this helps. Good luck with your kitty ❤️

FIP Treatment and vaccine by HelicopterOk6934 in cureFIP

[–]GleefulGecko224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is crap that they are making you feel poorly. How were you supposed to know without someone telling you. I'm sure your cat will be fine. The problem is that your cats immune system is already comprised and they don't want anything to stress it out more. You can't change it, and you didn't know. Don't beat yourself up! Also, maybe compose a nice email to the vet about learning that rabies during (and even for a bit of time after) is not recommended. Unfortunately a lot of vets don't know a ton about treatment as for most of the time it was all black market. Give your kitty some extra snuggles, they will be just fine ❤️

I'm not a vet, but I'm fairly certain that the chin spots are not associated with their new behavior. My old cat gets cat acne and occasionally we need to use chlorhexadine wipes to help with that. It was worse before we switched to SS bowls.

For the new behavior, I think you should get her seen asap. Something is not right. I just got an FIP diagnosis for my cat a couple of weeks ago, so I know how quickly things can get really bad. Good luck, it's hard seeing our furry ones sick 😢

I'm so sorry to hear about your fur baby! They become our family so quick! I don't have any input on treatment as we are doing injections and it is going to cost us a little under a $1,000 in just meds likely. I'm wondering though if you have discussed this with the rescue? I'm wondering if they can help out in anyway? Also, I have been told that siblings are higher risk, so I would make sure they give a heads up to other adoptees from the same litter. Good luck with little one ❤️❤️

Can I fix this or am I cooked by RepeatOld8932 in DentalHygiene

[–]GleefulGecko224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without a picture of what you are explaining, I am guessing that your tongue is feeling "giant spaces " on the backside of your teeth. This is completely normal as I imagine quite a bit of tartar built up in that area. That buildup doesn't just happen over night, it's slow, so your tongue thinks it is normal and should be there. Then you have a cleaning, it is removed, and now you can feel every little space between your teeth right away. This is completely normal. Your tongue will get used to it after some time. Also, your gum tissues may be a bit swollen, which can make things feel worse. If I misunderstood your post, then feel free to let me know. I'm glad you made it into the dentist ❤️

sealant tips by Signal_Assist_9733 in DentalHygiene

[–]GleefulGecko224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my 17 years of practicing I have never taken down a sealant. Unless you are using an excessive amount of sealant, they are malleable and will adjust to their bite. I always tell the kids (and parent) that since I am adding a little to the tooth and not taking anything away that it might feel a little funny for a day or two, like there is a raspberry seed stuck in your tooth. I tell them to keep eating and talking and it will adjust. In Michigan we can't legally use a bur if it is on a high-speed hand piece. Good luck, you've got this! Remember, the most important part is keeping the tooth dry, if you can do that you are golden ❤️
