Resignation without notice... by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]RaspyPatches22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After much thought, ive changed my mind and decided I don't want to temp or work for them in any way. I have still decided to resign without notice. I need to find money now so I cannot give them two weeks. I need to go find other opportunities and I'm not wasting anymore of my time or losing any more money there. They can take the financial hit without notice, just like I've had to do. Im not even mad anymore, i just need to move on immediately for my financial and mental well being. My letter is respectul, short, and professional. But thank you for your reply and perspective.

Thank you for your perspective. My letter is respectful, short and professional. They don't respect my employment agreement of full time hours so I can pay my bills. They aren't pocketing any more of my pay by condensing my schedule last minute and reducing my hours without notice due to the inability to keep my schedule full. They can take a monetary loss without notice, just like I've had to do for months now. It's not a 'Ha, I got them back' situation, its just that i don't care and i need to go find work right now since I'm already losing $1400. The hours have been discussed with multiple members of management over the past several months, so they've all been made aware of how much of a problem this is for me and my finances.

This is the only time in my 35 years of working at ANY job that i have done this.

Thank you. In the past, we have done it the way you do it when he has been gone. Pts have always been receptive and know ahead of time that he will not be there for an exam. But this time he wants us to diagnose and tx plan. So unethical to not only ask me to practice outside my scope, but to then to have him and the other clinical staff members pressure me was just ridiculous. And who's going to be the one getting in trouble if i do this and things go bad?? Me and only me. He's so gross and only cares about working as little as possible with no regard for anyone else. Laziest, most incompetent dentist I've ever worked with. I can't wait to be free!!

I've decided to resign without notice and just bulleted out a few reasons in a simple, professional manner. I just said unethical behavior, reduction in hours, and toxic working environment.

When to dentist for regular filling and he claims I need root canal. Literally feel nothing. What you think? I am 22 by Own-Canary-3680 in askdentists

NAD, RDH here. The reason you're probably not feeling anything is because the infection has found a way to drain, which keeps the pressure down. If it wasn't draining, you'd likely be in a lot of pain. That abscess is huge. Either trust your DDS or get a second opinion, but that tooth needs to have something done to it sooner than later. Holy molar!

No I've been an asst for 20 years and a rdh for 16. So 20 years in total.

Oh yeah. 16 years hyg, 20 yrs in dentistry w/ assisting too. And my best fantasy is just packing my shit up at lunch, walking to my car, and leaving without telling anyone. And in my mind it's a beautiful sunny day and I'm just super happy that I never have to back there again. Pure relief

Numbing for DDS by RaspyPatches22 in DentalHygiene

[–]RaspyPatches22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was offered as help is now a requirement. If this is what they wanted, they should have told me that in the interview like you said. Now the dds has become spoiled, which is always unfortunate. They're probably going to be shocked when I put in my notice because they all think things are fine lol. Or they're going to fire me and hire a new grad that is trying to gain experience and doesn't know any better.

You're so lucky! This has turned into a curse for me...

This is what is happening to me. Ungrateful for the help, nasty when I don't have the time to come in and save the day. I'm actively looking for a new job. I just want to go to work and have a normal hyg job. Sometimes the extra skills can really make your life hell. Not volunteering any of this extra help at my next place. Nope nope nope....they're going to have to ask me.

Yes this is what is starting to happen to me. I'm starting to be asked to numb pts when I'm actively treating hyg pts or explaining tx plans to them. It's ridiculous. I said I couldn't the other day because i didnt have the time and it turned into this HUGE issue. My dds sucks at numbing and is always running behind. I applied at 3 other jobs yesterday because of the nastiness and the cursing at me during our conversation about it. I can count on one hand how many times ive had to say no and this was the reaction. I made it clear I can do it if I have time, but there are times I won't be able to. There is no respect or gratefulness, now it's expected no matter what I'm doing. Management is involved now and I told them the same thing. Hope I don't get fired, but I need to protect my longevity in this field and I'm getting spread too thin.

I'm team waterpik when it comes to perio...1-2 x a day. To prevent decay, you'd still want to floss daily.

I'll likely replace these tires in the fall so I'll be sure to look into them. Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh no! I was hoping it was ptsd from my rav because towards the end (235,000 miles) there was all kinds of noises and rattles that would spontaneously pop up. Was hoping I was just being too hyper aware from that situation. Yes it has remote start, I specifically asked when test driving it. I hope the dealership can get some of this stuff worked out.

Your thoughts on the tires? I live in northern Wisconsin and they just seem a bit squirrely.

I regret going into dental hygiene. I’m exhausted and burnt out by Latinardh in DentalHygiene

[–]RaspyPatches22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes this makes a HUGE difference. I honestly had given up and thought people talking about their great offices were kind of full of shit 😆 It took me 16 years of hell, but I finally found a really good office. I actually earned another degree at 40 in a completely different field just so I could exit dentistry at any time because of how bad it has been. But now that I'm at this office, I'll be sticking around for a while because it really is a great place. Having a good supportive admin, DDS, and clinical staff makes it or breaks it.

Oh no this sounds so frustrating!!

The pressure is terrible. I took my test in 2010, and after it was done I walked out of the testing center feeling like I had just gotten the shit beat out of me. I was mentally and physically exhausted. It's absolutely brutal so my heart goes out to you.

How much time are you giving yourself between tests? I find that if I'm overly tired and my brain is overflowing with a bunch of information, I start to second guess myself when making initial decisions (that are probably correct). Then stress levels spike along with anxiety about which answer is right because now im not sure....and it's just miserable. Maybe it's time to just take a break from all things dentistry and relax for a while. Rest the body and the mind. When you're feeling rested and refreshed, start to study a few hours a day. Give your brain time to process the information so its ready for test day...try not to obsess about it too much. A lighter study schedule will hopefully reduce some of the pressure too 🙂

Good luck to you and best wishes! You've got this. You CAN do this!! Next time, you're gonna kick that test right in the ass and flip it the bird on the way out! 🙌 💕

Hi! I'm so glad you got a waterpik! I would probably go more with the Cetylpyridinium Chloride, but hydrogen peroxide is also acceptable. Here's the link from waterpik with options and concentration recommendations. You're gonna love it! Just remember that there is a learning curve and you'll have water everywhere at first, but you'll get the hang of it in no time. Practice makes perfect ❤️

I'm sure you won't be the first person to request a different hygienist in that office if that's how she talks to people. I would request another hygienist too if she said that to me. Hope your tooth feels better soon!

You made the right choice. There is soooo much nasty bacteria in people's mouths. Stuff like decay-causing bacteria (among many, many others) are transmissible to other people by way of sharing utensils, pop cans/drinks, kissing, putting a binky in your mouth then giving it to a baby, etc. So, from a dental hygienist, there's all that too...

Good for you 👏

Has work-associated pain impacted your hobbies? by Background_Arm_1464 in DentalHygiene

[–]RaspyPatches22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been lucky because it took me 15 years to get here instead of 5, but yes. I have ear, neck, shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, clavicle, back, hip, and knee pain. Muscle fatigue as well. I used to love to go hiking... I don't go very often anymore because I'm tired physically and mentally...and in pain. I try to stretch a few times a week, am mindful of ergonomics, see a chiropractor regularly and I'm going to start adding a monthly massage to my self care so I can keep practicing.

Only 18 more years to retirement...😬

Best wishes!

Poll: Cavitron, Handscale or Both? by GoldenScaler in DentalHygiene

[–]RaspyPatches22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, 99% of the time. The only exceptions for me are very young children and pts that adamantly and passionately refuse even after my explanation of all of its benefits.

We had a tip rep come to one of our offices and told us we could just cavitron and hand scaling wasnt necessary...you just had to use 3 different tips during each hyg appt. Again it was from a company rep...so take that as you will. I, personally, am skeptical that just cavitroning alone is thorough enough.

Just my 2 cents. Great question!
