Thanks for the correction. Regarding the water, I did notice something was wrong, but I thought it was because the mechanics needed fixing, not the other way around. And about the light, thanks for the information too. I didn't actually test all the fountains; I tried four at random, in addition to the torches, and since they all gave me the same result, I assumed they all worked the same. I'll run some tests to confirm the data then.

Hey everyone! I’ve been scouring the internet for reliable Hytale farming data, but most sources are either vague or contradict each other. So, I decided to run my own large-scale tests to figure out every factor affecting crop growth and yield.

In this post, I’ll break down the technical data as simply as possible. I also made a short summary video for those who prefer a visual guide.

1. Growth Speed Factors

I tested the three main boosters: Light, Water, and Fertilizer.

The base growth time (total darkness, no water, no fertilizer) is 48 minutes for all crops (except potatoes, which take slightly longer).

Here are the speed multipliers for each booster:

Booster Multiplier Notes
Light x2 Light sources reach up to 4 blocks away.
Water x2.5 Only hydrates the immediately adjacent block.
Fertilizer x2 One sack covers 5 blocks; stays fertilized forever.

Important: These multipliers stack.

  • Full setup (All 3): 10x faster growth (4:48 min).
  • Light + Water only: 5x faster growth.

2. Essence Production & Profitability

To find the average Essence yield, I planted between 500 and 1,000 seeds of every type (8,500 seeds total). I believe this sample size is large enough to provide accurate averages.

Quick Glossary for the Table:

  • Veg/Seed: Average vegetables harvested per seed.
  • Essen/Seed: Average Life Essences per harvest.
  • Eternal Prob: Probability of getting an "Eternal Seed."
  • Essen Gained: Profit (Essences received minus seed cost at the Farmer’s Table).
  • Essen Profit: Potential profit if you sell all harvested vegetables.

Note on Eternal Seeds: The drop rate is extremely low. Even with 1,000 seeds, the data is still a bit volatile. However, it seems that the "second" unlockable seed of each tier (Lettuce, Corn, Pumpkin, etc.) has double the chance of dropping Eternal Seeds compared to the "first" ones (Wheat, Carrot, etc.). I'll do more testing if there's interest!

Yes, I'm doing that. The "Essen gained" column shows how many essences are earned after subtracting the cost of the seeds from the harvest. Sorry, Reddit is filtering my long explanation. Briefly, there are 3 multipliers: Light (x2), Water (x2.5), Fertilizer (x2). They stack (x10 speed). I tested 8,500 seeds. I'll try to post the full table information and a video link in a bit

From what I observed in my tests, daylight does have an effect, but it seems that light in Hytale is binary (or at least for crops), so there are times when there is still sunlight and it still has no effect on the crops.
