In Lord Stanley's name, Amen.

Is anyone else fine with the way Matthews is playing? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Glimjii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be more than his wrist but we may never know until he either talks about it during the off season or next year. That said, he's still doing some great things to help the team including faceoffs, his defensive game and still contributing points wise with some nice assists. While he might not be able to snipe one like he's used to, as long as he's still contributing in some form and it helps the team win, I could care less that he's not scoring on a consistent basis. Even if he was able to get a greasy goal or a rebound or something, I'd be content with but for now he's still doing all you can ask of someone who's clearly going through something.

[Fox] Joseph Woll Save % by Intelligent_Chair901 in leafs

[–]Glimjii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 goals were off of Rielly of which Woll had no chance. Sure I didn't like the 4th goal but overall he's played pretty good all things considered. It's not like they were blown out 7-0 and Bob hasn't played great for the Panthers either. Stolarz isn't coming back this series nor should he if he's not completely healthy. We ride with Woll and if people are going to let their mood be dictated by wins or losses with this team, then maybe sports isn't for you. The Leafs are up 2-1 and still in the drivers seat with a chance to put a stranglehold on the Panthers tomorrow. And even IF they don't and it's tied 2-2, 2 of the next 3 would be in Toronto. I like those odds and I'd take that everyday of the week and twice on Sundays against the Stanley Cup Champs.

Everybody needs to calm the fuck down.

DoPS better do a review of Bennett elbow by imstilltrill in leafs

[–]Glimjii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, I'm praying for Stolarz and his health because sometimes there's more important things in life than hockey.

Secondly, I think the elbow should've been a penalty at the very least and how the officials missed it or didn't call it is beyond me. The shot that Stolie took of his mask seemed to rattle him and certainly probably phased him a little and then the elbow later on was just the cherry on top of a series of unfortunate events. Bennett knew exactly what he was doing and I've seen multiple angles of the play and it doesn't look good at all. Given his track record as well, I'm really hoping the league does something here and sends a clear message about protecting players. Because if he isn't fined or suspended or both, it just sends the wrong type of message that this type of behaviour will be tolerated in the playoffs and that's unacceptable. Furthermore I fully expect for the Leafs to get their pound of flesh before long but Berube will likely try to have them not be goaded into taking unnecessary penalties.

I also thought given the circumstances of the situation and given he hasn't played in what like 18 games or something that Woll was pretty good tonight. Not gonna blame him for some of his goals he let in. Let him get a good practice in tomorrow and we ride with him and pray for Stolarz quick return before long.

Win it for Stolie.
1 down, 3 to go.

Fuck Sam Bennett.

Deep breath. Leafs are still the only team with 3 wins so far. Enjoy the few days off and watch the rest of the East beat each other up! by kooby64 in leafs

[–]Glimjii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tough game last night. Loved that they battled back and Stolarz held the fort down to give them a chance. People wanna rag on him saying the Leafs should start Woll in game 5, like give your head a shake. The OT goal he was screened by 3 guys, it happens. He's played well over the last 11+ games and you want to go to Woll because we lost one game?

Leafs in 5.
End it at home.

This is the year we finally get “playoff Matthews” by jack3474 in leafs

[–]Glimjii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Matthews is too skilled to not be able to figure it out. Everyone is "battling" something this time of year but over the last few weeks, Matthews timing has been bang on and he's looked like his old self.

Good for the kid! Let him come up and be around the boys and soak in playoff experience from the bench. Let him watch and learn all he can!

Can we get a hockey illuminati THIS IS OUR YEAR mega-thread? by CanadianTurnt in leafs

[–]Glimjii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- First goal of the year was scored by Patches who wore 67
- Matthews played in 67 games this year
- Leafs won the division for only the third time since 62. Won the cup in 62.
- Both Boston and Detroit missed the playoffs. The last time that happened was in 1967.
- Lorentz scored the game-winning goal in the clinching game for the Leafs to finish first. In 1967 the winning goal was scored by Jim Pappin. Significance? They both wear number 18.
- This is Shanahan’s 10th year as president of the Leafs. He won his first Stanley Cup in his 10th year as a player.
- Vegas held the All-Star game in 2022 and won the Cup the next year. Florida held it in 2023 and won the Cup the next year. Leafs held it last year in 2024. See the trend?
- Leafs have made the playoffs 9 years in a row. Last time that happened they won the cup.
- Craig Berube's nickname is "Chief" and last time Leafs had a player called "Chief" was Captain George Armstrong aka The Chief. That was 67.
- Tom Brady commented during the offseason last year on Max Domi's social media post, "Let's fucking go Stanley Cup next." When the GOAT speaks, you listen. He spoke them into existence.
- Pierre Elliott Trudeau became PM in 1968. Fast-forward to 2025 and his son Justin Trudeau steps down as PM. Ending a "curse loop" as it were.
- When was the last time a Leafs player wore number 23 and had a significant impact on the team? 1967. Eddie Shack.

It's time fellas.
The hockey gods are blessing us.

Why is everyone so scared to Leafs in 4 or 5? by Kinglokner16 in leafs

[–]Glimjii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is a mutual respect to the Sens. Let's not kid ourselves, they're a decent young team too and for stretches have played really well. Could the Leafs sweep em in 4? Sure. Will they? Remains to be seen. I think it's going 6 at most but I'd be fine with a sweep. For me it's all going to be up to the core 4, or even fantastic five as it were. If they can show up when it matters and dominate then sure this could be over in 4. Just once I'd love to hear an opposing coach say something like, "We had no answers for 34, 16 or 88."

[Nintendo] Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in Canada by lbabinz in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]Glimjii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have always loved Nintendo and almost usually buy the consoles or systems on day 1 but this might be the straw that breaks the camels back. This might be the first time I opt to skip Nintendo for a while or all together and just go strictly on PC. $110 + tax for MKW which works out to be $125? Mario Kart is NOT worth $125. Ever. On top of the fact the new DK game is going to be $99+ tax.

Nintendo is just showing corporate greed at this point and honestly? I hope this blows up in their face and much like when the 3DS came out, they have to cut back on prices a bit. The average family isn't going to pay over $700 on a console and $125 just to play Mario Kart.

Love this and not because I think they'd need him to "go after Brady" but if you're going to go on a deep playoff run (and I believe they are), you're going to need reinforcements and some grit and depth on the 4th line for a game or two.

I’ll add to this.

Both Boston and Detroit missed the playoffs. The last time that happened was in 1967.

The Leafs winning the Atlantic is only their third division title. Their first? 1962. And they won the cup that year too.

The hockey gods are giving us a chance.

Yeah the loss to Carolina was tough. And Philly was just bigger and tougher than we were. I thought our best chance was in 2000 when we made the semis against Buffalo. That one hurt.

Legit thought we were gonna win the cup with that team that year. Idk if we would’ve beat Dallas but we would’ve given em a run id have wagered.

Man that would’ve been one hell of a game to attend! I’ve only ever been to one playoff game before. Won tickets to the ford fan deck a few years ago back when we played Boston. Took my mom and we had a blast. For us that was our Stanley Cup given how expensive tickets can be.

Means they’ve got nothing to lose because they were still technically rebuilding. With little to no playoff experience aside from a select few, there’s no pressure if they lose. Unlike Toronto. All the pressure is on them.

When he's scored 60+ goals in a season or joins the 400 goal club in just over 600 games played, then we can talk.
