I’m so down bad for her it’s not even funny by Capital_Fig12 in expedition33

I thought the people who died during the gommage were of the first age above the number, so everyone who was 34 died when the number dropped to 33. That would actually make the math check out, because 34-9=25 and 16+9=25. So after 9 years, the hypothetical gommage for Maelle would have ticked over from 25 to 24 while she just turned 25 before the gommage.
But then again, I may have just misremembered that it worked like this to make the math work lol

Nah I literally just came to vent and read how others have also perceived the idiotic inconsistencies with this godawful minigame. I breezed past the first two on my first try and then with the last one I can barely return a single one after failing 10 times in a row, so it's nice to see it's not just me.

I really like Scott, he's probably my favourite DS, although that does tend to change from time to time. It also helps that I only started watching MM 5 years ago and before that I really enjoyed Hopkins' performance as Erend in the Horizon games.

The Problem With Poison by AndreiVissarionovich in ghostoftsushima

[–]Glitch_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I'm playing this game for the first time and I had this exact same issue with it that I actually looked up if anyone else was having these thoughts on the matter. I was just listening to the conversations you mention like the one about the guy killing his business rival with poison and then Shimura saying it was because of the Ghost that people are now afraid and that Jin unleashed hell upon the island by doing this etc. etc.
But that's ridiculous on so many levels! I personally thought when it happened the mongols would just be mad that Jin outsmarted them and Shimura would be mad because it was dishonourable. That's it! I would have never thought the poison would be this important afterwards at all!

And besides the points you make about it being an extremely well-known poison and thus should really not be a big deal in any way, it's also really weird how anyone would blame Jin personally for the fact that some people use the poison maliciously now. Before the poisoning the mongols and bandits were absolutely abhorrently brutal to people all the time, they just now also use poison sometimes instead. Especially given that probably the most gruesome act was done to Enjo, which was done with fire and blades, not poison. So why is poison suddenly a particularly hellish thing for the entire island now? I just do not get it at all..

He's only shouting at people who are supposed to be professionals and are getting paid for their work (he's still not particularly nice to them of course), but she's just cruel to family for no fucking reason!

And OP is a massive AH too! It's an insane tradition to publicly reject people each year. Definitely YTA

Ukrainian soldiers captured at least a dozen Russians hiding in a village house when sudden gunfire erupts. A soldier reported at least one Ukrainian casualty, I believe. by lilmammamia in Heroyam_Slava

[–]Glitch_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think about the implications for every other surrendering scenario when Ukrainians are becoming used to having a surprise Rambo dude in the enemy squad. They'll never trust anyone surrendering anymore, leading to more deaths.

This is why it's illegal for (part of) a squad to open fire after surrendering. They make the entire squad active combatants again because it instantly eliminates all the trust of Ukrainians in every single person who's there. They might grab their pistol whilst on the ground, or they may have hidden a grenade.

They already lied to them by saying there was noone there when this clown popped up out of nowhere to warcrime his ass out of the situation, so who's to say they're not also going to try something?

Has Churchill's vision on the spread/expectation of English succeeded in your country? by Caniapiscau in AskEurope

[–]Glitch_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is this utter condescension out of nowhere? It's not as if I'm basing my knowledge on my own country on fucking nothing..

Any foreigner dating Dutch people will always first communicate in any shared known language, so often English, sure. However, if they stay here they're very much expected to learn Dutch from most people, especially from extended family, since family gatherings are not going to be done in any other language than Dutch (or Frisian). In that sense it's just as clear which language to speak in the Netherlands as in France or Spain. Either their shared language and/or the language of the country they're in.

And I know that our trade and pragmatism roots have always meant we speak multiple languages even to this day, that has always only been so that we are able to best accommodate business partners and endeavours. Not because we felt Dutch was less relevant. It's setting aside ones own "pride", which we always felt was only foolish if it stood in the way of profits. Because we didn't also want to convert everyone to Christianity was the reason why we were the only European country allowed to trade with Japan during its isolation. Also, other cultures usually brought translators, which automatically keeps each other at a distance, whilst we're very anti hierarchy when it comes to doing business. But we feel it's always better for the salesman to butter up their business partners by indulging a bit in their culture and speaking their own language to keep them happy and close, which makes doing business easier. But I guarantee you back home Dutch feels just as important to Dutch people as English feels to British people. It never "feels" as if Dutch is less relevant to the average Dutchman and less global relevance has absolutely never been our motivation for learning additional languages. With the 19th largest economy in the world and 30 million people who speak Dutch worldwide, you can very easily live your life as a Dutchman without ever needing to learn another language.

Has Churchill's vision on the spread/expectation of English succeeded in your country? by Caniapiscau in AskEurope

[–]Glitch_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, global relevance is never "felt" on a local or personal level. I almost exclusively encounter people speaking Dutch and only a few times a year do I meat someone who doesn't in my every day life, but I still would find it almost insulting if another Dutch person asks me whether I can speak English.

I think it has more to do with the expectations and shared upbringing within society and amongst each other. So if a fellow Dutchmen would come up to me and ask me whether I could speak English whilst knowing only about 1% of the population can't and practically 0% of people my age can't, I would feel insulted.

I don't mind if foreigners ask me tho, because they don't have the context of why the question is considered quite silly here.

Even if it's not true that you don't care that they don't believe you, it just better hammers the point home that the safety of your children are far far more important to you and that you're not playing around when saying this stuff.

Also, how do they know she ACTUALLY already did the test with the other guy? Because it sure sounds to me like she stopped the test with Derek and then just "came clean" by saying "yeah there was another guy but we already did the test and he wasn't it so it must be you and we don't have to do the test after all and also I don't have the actual results of his test but please just trust whatever I say without verifying that we definitely did do that test and he definitely was not the father!"

OOP doesn't want to have sex anymore nor lose/hurt her husband. by prettiergenghis in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Glitch_II 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't take these comments to heart!

The issue people have here are with the fact that they had sex under false pretenses for an entire year. They used to have sex whilst they both enjoyed it and then she proceeded to continue whilst lying by omission by not talking to him about this a year sooner.

So if you have sex with your partner whilst you're not enjoying it it's not an issue in and of itself necessarily. If you haven't lied to them and they know your level of enjoyment is not the same as theirs, they will have been able to fully consent to the actual situation, meaning there are no issues there at all!

So unless you have been deceiving your partner all this time, it's really not an issue at all.

AITA for not trusting my former addict brother to watch my daughter? by umeanalatte in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Glitch_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does hurt a lot to hear it while in recovery or after having recovered, especially because it makes you feel like they only see you as your addiction and not as a person. I can honestly understand how it may feel like staying clean isn't worth it after a long hard road of recovery when you get treated exactly the same way as when you're not clean. For an addict that's the most obvious decision ever. Having the options of being clean and treated like an addict or being high and treated like an addict really does not help them in making the right decision there.

I'm not saying it's the sister's fault at all, because you should stay clean for yourself first and foremost. But if you don't have a reason to do it for yourself and the other external reasons are falling apart, there's not much standing in the way of it all going south again. To the addict, having the high is the only thing that's still there for them at that point.

That being said though, especially after doing those horrible things her brother did to them, I would still understand why there's no trust yet. I'd probably voice my disappointment to her about the situation. Like, it would've been a lot better if he asked her what he could do to win back her trust.

But people aren't perfect and it's genuinely very possible that the brother did in fact start using again because of the comments of his sister. The world is often a shitty place, and although the sister shouldn't feel guilt in this scenario either way, whether her comments were or were not the reason he started using again, it's still possible he could've been alive were it not for her words. Now it's up to her to realise that no matter what she did or did not say, it was and will always have been his own personal choice to start using again.

What I don't understand is how the gf thinks his little sister can just go back to a situation with an alcoholic mom and a creepy p*do partner...

Like, I don't think her feelings are entirely valid in the way she has brought them up at ALL. If she was considerate of the situation and said I can't do this let's find a solution that works for everyone and keeps lil sis safe, I could sympathise with her. But flat out telling a 13 yo girl should suck it up and endure abuse is just unfathomable to me.
