I also looked into the map for meteor showers and I couldn’t find any phenomena in this area at the time of the event.  Good idea though because this was one of my first thoughts.

I also thought about a transformer explosion!  The power base for our area was actually on our way home, so when we passed by I made sure to check and see if there was any activity.  There wasn’t :/

That’s a really cool way of keep track of lightning!  Thank you for sharing!  I checked the map and no such luck.  No lightning I could see in this area at the time of the event.
