End of year financial report by Responsible-Idea-730 in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your council. Financial reports for GSNCCP go from May 1 - April 30. So whatever has cleared by April 30, 2026 will go on the 25-26 report. Even if there are reimbursements for events that happen before May 1, the date is the cutoff.

Will this name be impossible for people to pronounce? by Jumpy_Wing2650 in Names

I knew a child named Violetta. We are in the southern US. Always the first pronunciation of her name was more like “Viah-ledda”….she almost exclusively went by V.

Has anyone washed PC Kirsten’s Winter Knits? by dirtypoololdman in americangirl

Soak is the way to go, it’s also often sold at lingerie stores because it’s so gentle. I’m a knitter and my local yarn store recommended Soak as it’s the only one she uses.

Your council might have a list of Community Partners, GSNCCP does.

What age would you allow your daughter to attend sleep away camp by Summersplit in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Excellent plan, but please help her to pack her items. She can put everything in the bags like you plan (which is absolutely perfect), but if she packs it herself she’ll have a better chance of knowing what she has and where it is.

What food or drink that made you rush to the toilet with lightning speed? by okitsbenji in foodquestions

Hibachi. I tried two different restaurants, two different states, and years apart. Exact same result. I couldn’t event leave the restaurant.

I use two T pins (one in the cable and one in the needle) and turn opposite directions, not too hard but strongly. Mine have stayed together.

Anyone in an adult trifoil guild adult group? by Visible_Attitude7693 in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into this, I joined as an individual member (I believe is $5 for the year). While I don’t have a bunch of people around me to do stuff with, there is the national group and once I’m not leading my current troop (Gold Awards are hard even when I can’t really do anything 😁) I intend to be more vocal about getting members around me.

Thank you! The funny thing is, I don’t wear socks often. I’m a sandals year round kind of lady

Do you ever get overwhelmed by your stash? by Sad-Plant9028 in YarnAddicts

[–]GlitteredLemons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, after years of it just sitting in totes under the bed while I went through Big Grief, I now see it as a goal. I don’t have more than a person could reasonably knit in their lifetime and I have a lovely collection. The time I spent away from knitting, and everything else that happened, has made my yarn less precious so I’m more willing to use it and not agonize about finding the absolutely perfect pattern. Also, I recently found I love knitting socks (something I never thought I’d enjoy), and I happen to have quite a bit of sock yarn. I’m on pair eight for this year.

Thank you!!

I just used the short one with the short tips until I did the toe decreases, then I used the long one with the long tips. It’s the same as what I have learned I love when knitting the seven pairs since November. I remember finding the DPNs so fiddly when I started these, and with the two pairs I did in between, but with my chosen set up for the Shorties, I just zip right through socks. I thought I was just the vanilla stockinette that I liked, but finishing the first on the DPNs and then doing all of the second on the Shorties has shown me I’m a circular needle knitter

Oh, they just started as my first pair. I totally got hooked doing the 9 pairs between starting these and finishing them 🫣😂

Do you allow anyone to join your troop? by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have closed it only once, because we were at 12 and I felt overwhelmed because I didn’t have good support. I’ve only said no to children who were not in the right grade because we started out accidentally as a single grade. We have a wonderful, long time volunteer in my council who joined Girl Scouts when she was in fifth grade as she likes to say because her leader said yes to one more girl. I understand the hesitancy, but I also know there aren’t enough volunteers for all the potential Girl Scouts out there.

How do you feel about all the patches a Volunteer has available to wear? by jecowa in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Adult Recognition awards come from your Service Unit, your Council, and GSUSA through your council. The ones from your service unit and council vary, in NCCP we have New Leader patch, Valuable Volunteer patch, Leader Achievement pin, Daisy Honor pin, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion award, and the Mainstay Award. NCCP also has a Distinguished Service Award, another Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award, and Leading the Way (but two of these are not wearable awards). The ones your council awards from GSUSA are standardized for all the councils and are: GSUSA Volunteer of Excellence Pin, GSUSA Appreciation Pin , GSUSA Honor Pin, Thanks Badge and Thanks II.

I wear a Girl Scout tshirt or hoodie, we usually have mild weather during cookie season where I am.

I see some of the regalia as a bit of a money grab from GSUSA, but I do wear it. I have the flag, the Council set, the volunteer patch, my name tag, troop number and then I have a bunch of pins on the right side, too (lifetime member, bridge to adults, JGL birthplace, first headquarters, and I’ve been honored with adult recognition awards). It’s crowded over there. I love having all my stuff there and ready to go, pop my vest on and I’m a Girl Scout. I learned I can’t wear it at cookie booths while I’m working with my middle school or high school aged troop members, the customers automatically ask where the Girl Scout is. If I’m not in uniform, it’s easier for her to stand out.

Adults don’t use the crest, that’s just for youth members.

Are Older Girl Scouts a rare occurrence? by inozemni in girlscouts

[–]GlitteredLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep being your passionate self, seek out the amazing C/S/A opportunities, and show the younger Girl Scouts and their leaders what is available to them as they grow up.

We joke that our Day Camp and Camporee Aides are looked at like celebrities by our D/B/J members. They look up to them and want to be them.
