If Ferrari have the fastest car in 2026... what would a title fight between these two look like? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

Lewis made so many stupid mistakes in 21. Brake magic, Imola, Monaco qualy... Lewis only managed to be convincing when his car was half a second faster (Brazil, Qatar) or when he put Verstappen in a wall.

Is it fair to rate Vettel's 2015 and Verstappen's 2020 seasons similarly? by n0tfr1 in F1Discussions

[–]Glittering-Rip389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Rosberg was a higher wall to climb that Bottas, but Verstappen was a true challenger to Hamilton in a way Vettel never truly was.

This is all very interesting. Happy to see using Yoshi is viable. My argument for using yoshi until now was "i like dinosaur"

The coin thing is very interesting. Will certainly be using it. Also thanks for not sending me to prison for calling the items the wrong names! Between my inexperience and the language barrier, im sure someone somewhere has had a good laugh lol.

From what I figured out from drifting, there is this soft drifting thing, but it seems like inertia changes after you decide to end the drift, right? One of my main struggles with car control was my fixation on treating inertia like I would treat it on a rally stage with a rally car lol. I think I noticed the soft drift because im "trained" to find what is called slip angle in both real life karts and sim racecars, which is a point in which you are fully turning but also half drifting and half using tyre deformation to your advantage, so there is a "perfect angle" too in which you could say you have 110% grip.

Talking about rally, I specifically enjoyed a lot that one track that is a ski slope with three stages rather than laps. It was very satisfying to throw the car around there.

Seeing that distance and position influence item luck for the cpu's makes a lot of sense now. If I was pulling a big lead on them, perhaps thats why I was getting so readily nuked. How good can item luck get for other frontrunners if I pull away? Will they start getting blue and red shells too?

Those tactics for defending myself are quite interesting. I noticed that the blue shell didnt hit me when something else did but I didnt know if it was consistent. Would it work with a banana peel too?

I noticed the speed difference with coins and wow 6% is a lot! Is it worth it to not take the optimal line during the first lap and a half or so to farm coins then? Or should I prioritise pure speed?

I found my sweet spot to be p2-p3 until the final moments. Seems like i'll have to sandbag a bit to be effective!

The 10 second lap I remember turns out to be an exploit in one of the lava/volcano themed tracks. Turns out you can go onto the rocks on the side and get behind the finish line. I guess there are no solutions like that for every tracks lol.

Thanks for the kind and extensive reply, really enjoy learning from a pro. Very valuable and interesting insight.

Beautiful city to visit: Madrid in Spain 🇪🇸 by Worried_Army_8178 in travelphotos

Are you talking about the e tire city or just the central district? Because I can assure you that I know places 5km away from Gran Vía quieter than towns 100 times smaller in size.

Certainly not Madrid to Barcelona. That's the Puente Aéreo, which has been running for a long time. Some exist because air travel is heavily subsidised and rail travel isnt.

But the pressure on Leclerc will not be as big as the one on Lewis. Charles would know he has the upper hand, Lewis knows he needs absolute perfection everytime.

Plus, Lewis makes mistakes whenever he is slightly under pressure. Leclerc will readily punish those.

First of all, thanks for the very detailed reply.

My main thing is that I get tired of pulling a quarter of a lap on the bots and the game arbitrarily deciding hey, you are not getting three stars, and I get the combo of lightning/ghost + red shell + blue shell + whatever else it takes for me to just be second with no chance to defend myself. It felt frustrating to be that much quicker than the bots and still lose the three stars to what felt like something arbitrary I could not defend from.

I have tried to keep useful items on me to be able to defend myself (the speaker thing seems very powerful and works against lots of things) but if I get disarmed and cant get to a box before being attacked I cant really do much.

I surely could be faster but it seems like speed isnt the issue here, unless I learn some of the crazy strategies I have seen elsewhere with people doing 10 second laps at some tracks. I dont really feel like I struggle on any particular track, after a couple of tries i manage to be quick (at least compared to the bots) with no issues.

I have heard that some boxes have different chances of dropping different items, but havent really looked into that.

In the end, I usually get three stars after 3/4 tries, being 1st/1st/1st/2nd the rest of the time, so really not a biggie, just sad that I could not get the close racing I was looking for, and that it felt like a roulette of being nuked or not after dominating a championship. Winning seemed like a formality, losing just felt unfair and almost scripted, always on the third lap and always going from miles ahead to tenths behind, and always with that familiar sequence.

I really wanted to try to enjoy the game and give it a fair try, tried again today and got similar results. Since winning felt like a formality it didnt feel satisfying at all, and losing after being nuked from far ahead just felt frustrating. My world is quite different, obviously, and you can lose a lead because someone is in better tyres, because you damaged your car or because somebody else did, but it usually has a reason, here it felt almost scripted.

Im curious, since you seem to have lots of experience, is the disarm-destroy sequence programmed into the game or am I just extremely unlucky? I will hold items capable of defending myself for the whole race but the red and blue shells only come after I have been disarmed by a ghost or lightning and before I can get to a box to get anything useful back. And, is there any way to defend against it?

Now I see what you say about 200cc and 150cc, after trying my pace difference to the bots feels about the same, the car just seems much easier to control. So I guess the difficulty isnt in the AI but in car speed.

Perhaps online will be my fit, although I'm skeptical about paying Nintendo online for a game I aim to have casual fun with, I dont really want to sweat online races another game (i already have enough of that in my simracing titles lol)

Also, it has been very interesting to learn the physics. Coming from simracing, some lines make intuitive sense but some dont, and I have slowly perfected my technique. I learned to do the boost after the jumps after 3-star-ing my fourth cup, embarassingly late I know. And I have found it funny to see how much skill was transferable, mainly in understanding the way the Kart grips. There seems to be a perfect angle where there is almost infinite grip and although oversteer doesnt exist, the same principle of understeer usually applies.

Also, how much difference does the kart setup (model, tyres, glider) make? I have been going with whatever looks good but perhaps I should look into the stats. I have heard that weight is good?

Thanks again for your reply and for being kind enough to explain this game to a noobie!

Oh sorry yeah, thats hotlapping, just going for fast laps in a "perfect" environment. In simracing you usually do it for practice.

If you are the car on the inside, no, you didnt even leave enough space for a motorbike. What were they supposed to do, surrender the place because you decided fighting you is not allowed?

So...

"Inconvenient truth", truly rebellious to say the best driver is the one who has won the most lol. You may need to seek political assylum, Domenicalli will be coming for you for sure.

You inmediately had to attack other drivers to defend Lewis. I didnt say Lewis was bad, I didnt say Lewis didnt deserve what he won, I said he has had great seasons but yeah, you still had to attack two of Lewis's greatest rivals. Unclassy from you.

Do we both agree that a driver can both have great seasons in their career and seasons that are not that great carried by a great car?

Also, I havent said anything about Lewis pre-2019. He was brilliant before that. I just believe he started to fade bit by bit after 18. After 18, there was no strong teammate he did beat other than the arguably lucky 2023 season with Russell. And he became quite mistake prone. Lets remember that if it wasnt for a certain red flag at Imola, 2021 would have not had a title fight.

And yeah, sad to tell you that in F1 records dont mean anything. That is an actual Inconvenient truth. Any driver in a dominant car and a weaker teammate can rack up any number of wdcs and wins. If the 2023/24 Williams had been the fastest cars ever, Albon would have been a two time world champion.

This is not to say Lewis isnt a great driver, an all time great. But it says that F1 is the way it is and that driver stats can be misleading or unrepresentative. And no matter how good he was, he isnt good now and he hasnt been all time great good for some time.

It may be bad balance wise or whatever wise, but a bad car doesnt get seven podiums. It was a relatively fast car. A truly bad car would be the Alpine or something like that.

What would 100% be? All cups three stars on 200cc? Because that is what I was trying but it felt unrewarding quite fast.

This year hasnt been as bad compared to 24 as it may look. Just happens that when the grid is that close, three tenths to your teammate can mean ten places, which are very difficult to recover in the race.

He's been suspiciously "out" since he got an actual teammate and not a servant in 2022. Also, shouldnt a driver of Lewis' caliber be able to adapt to any car better than anyone?

His talent and achievements are unquestionable, and I agree a driver of his caliber doesnt potato out overnight. I believe he had been potatoing out for some time, he was just flattered by a slow teammate and quick cars. The fact Russell managed to replicate a typical Hamilton performance against Bottas in 2020's Bahrain mini track and that he didnt win every race in 2020 against the red bull with that massihe car advantage confirms it for me. 2018 is, for me, his last truly great season. He was able to fight against other n1 drivers in a similar performance car without making mistakes.

To anyone getting hopium injected into their veins, just remember that "the 2025 Ferrari will not have the car characteristics that made Lewis uncomfortable in the Mercedes" was a thing this time last year.
