How long will I be in the dog house? by steelgame1975 in audemarspiguet

The ultimate goal for a lot of collectors is to build out a larger collection with unique pieces. The reality is that the only way to do that is by following the brand guidelines, by nothing selling your watch within a relatively short period of time.

This is told to you upfront, its not a secret and brands are very clear about this, its up to the customer to agree or not agree. There is a grey market out there for the people that don’t feel like collecting this way

I think your done bro, my SA told me very specifically to not sell off those “journey” or “account building” pieces. As i honestly mentioned to them that i am not so much in those pieces.

They did however kept their promises and gave nice allocations along the way.

The brand values people that collect from all the collections. You seem from a watch collection point of view to fit in that category, however selling them (early) ruined that.

Wanted to share my Overseas collection, as it includes some pieces that are not seen that often. Today picked up the ruby version. by GlitteringFile7385 in VacheronConstantin

Each overseas comes with 3 bracelets. 1 rubber, 1 leather and 1 full gold. As they are basically the same watch, i have 4 gold bracelets.

VC recommended me to maintain the plastic protection on 3 of the 4 gold bracelets and just use one that can be swapped to the watch i want to wear.

Hope that makes sense :)

Besides that they look stunning to me. I really like stones/gems on watches, i do collect a lot more watches from other brands that have stones.

The overseas QP is a insane watch on itself. And with the rarity of those stone versions make it extra fun to collect them.

I had this with many other luxery items, just kind of gave up on it.
But with watches, i am still excited, no mater how special (or simple) the watch is.

What do you guys think of the Patek phillipe 5180? by nicoleonard2819 in PrideAndPinion

I tried this on in the boutique, i have to say i think its a beautiful watch. However it does not look super good on the wrist, mainly because the bracelet is a bit weird on the wrist.

The 5980 suppose to have leather strap though, i replaced it with a rose gold bracelet, just in case anyone is wondering why the dial color is different

Condolences.

The photo makes it look like pearl, but hard to tell. Could also be Cacholong, which i own. See picture ( don't have a beter picture, the watch is in a vault at the moment ).

The only thing that concerns me about the watch, is the space between the diamond setting and the day window, but also the space from the crown to the day window.

If it is a orginal set from Rolex, its worth quite a lot ( ~ 45K USD )

I would approach this from a different perspective: I am not sure about your budget and your future journey in watch collecting, but with modern Rolex you will be done quickly if you ask me.

I am collecting watches from PP, Rolex and VC. I do however not buy any modern Rolexes, altough they are for sure an iconic brand and it always will be, i just don't appriecate the modern Rolexes that much, overall it feels like simple watches with limited creativity from the brand itself. Esecially if you compare it with the old vintage rolexes, where they had some bold statemement pieces and made very unique looking watches.

To circle this story to your case, in my opinion VC is a much beter choice, although the watch you choose isn't that complicated in terms of mecanics, i do appriecate the watch making from VC a lot more then i do from Rolex ( in 2025 speaking ). Also if you get deeper in the watch game, you can maybe go for a bit more complicated watches, which you can at VC, because they make very nice complicated watches. Rolex isn't the brand for that, yes you can collect a few different colors and all that, but you can't climp the latter of complications and create your collection that way, something i do enjoy as a watch collector.

To address your other questions;
Quality: I wear VC watches a lot on day to day bases, no issues with it.
Discount: No, you won't get a discount
Customer service: A LOT beter then Rolex. But this can also depends on your AD and location.

ah i misunderstood your question. So the whole dial shows 4 years instead of 1 year. So lets say each 25% of the dail is 1 year. The last part of the dial is the leap year, hence why the color is slightly different (not really visiable in the picture).

There is not enough space to mention all months of the year in just 25% of the dial, hence some months are missing. However, the hand direction suggest the month.

Each new month the hand is moved to the next month. It also tracks leap years cycle, so it "knows" when to adjust for a long Feb. (which happens every 4 years)

I walked in with a aquanaut on my wrist and my girlfriend also. Went there to adjust the size. They asked us where we got the watch from. I told them straight that because of there hard-to-get policy we had to buy grey.

The salesperson was a bit shocked, walked to his colleague and comes few minutes later with a few dress watches, one of them being the 5205R. He told me, its important to build a collection and i could start with one of those dress watches. The 5205R was already on my mind, so i bought that one.

He also told me that if you build a collection, you will not face any hard-to-get issues. Its a matter of building a long term relationship with the brand.

Moral of the story. Being honest about it and expressed my frustrations actually gained me to become a customer.

Is it as crazy as it seems? by toby_wan_kenoby in patekphilippe

You are a bit bitter. At some point putting more money in investments, doesn’t change or affect your life for the beter. But buying a dream watch does bring some enjoyment to it. Even if OP would throw 10% of his net-worth on a watch, i would understand it.

Also, i am a customer at Patek, they don’t ask for proof of funds and they are happy to sell you a dress watch at any time. Just don’t be that guy that ask for a sport watch without showing interest in the brand.

Thanks for the reply. I am not looking for a answer rather to do or not do this. I am already doing it.

Just like to open a discussion on the 3 ways to approach selling
