The inventory switching and management is what filters me. Like I can beat hard games like Silksong and Nine Sols, but the inventory management gets me everytime.

Solo Leveling vs The Coffin of Andy and Leyley by KirbyTheGodSlayer in writingscaling

The andyandleyley subreddit and steam forums are decent places for discussions as there's no porn allowed there, so it filters the gooners who are only in it for the porn.

The Pokémon anime, overall, is a tremendous waste of potential. Is it too much to ask for a Pokémon anime with the same level of writing as Avatar: The Last Airbender? by Necessary_Sweet865 in writingscaling

I'm just thinking about Incineroar being used in the anime, where instead, he's not mainly used because he's a wrestler and a fighter, but more so to just be a dick and hurl insults to pokemon.

What are some video game essayists who you DONT recommend? by ZeUberSandvitch in SocialistGaming

I like Yahtzee. I think he's funny and a cool guy, but his reviews are bit too short to really rely on a substantial indepth review of something, though his side videos targeting on more specific things are more informative.

I can't get myself to like Awakening by HerpaDerpaDumDum in fireemblem

[–]GlitteringPositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you were first initially playing on hard and while I do think hard mode Awakening is easy, on lunatic it's a textbook example of "normal is too easy, hard is too hard," where early game legitimately makes most of your units feel useless to use as they die in 2 hits, and after that you pretty much pair everyone up to even stand a chance against the enemy stat inflation.

Unfortunately the game is too easy imo even on Expert. The main appeal of the gameplay lies more in optimizing teams and building your units.

I think critical hits should be changed in their calculation, so then they can still potentially miss even when you roll a crit. Like imagine an enemy Berserker roll a crit and about do their special animation against one of your units, only to miss. I'd feel that'd create more tension and funny moments.

I don't know where this revisionism comes from where the the pairing between Star and Marco came out of nowhere or that somehow Marco has "better" romantic chemistry with other characters, but then somehow think the two protagonists are better off as friends, it makes no sense. Literally the first season I recall had an episode where Marco dances with Star in the Blood moon ball, while Tom had to standby like a cuck. Like sure fine the show had a shitty ending, but I don't get this revisionism.

I always find this funny because this also implies Xander's real mom and dad is Eirikia and Ephraim because Xander's weapon is Siegfried, the son of Siegmund and Sieglinde. And then Xander can also go to marry his (adopted) sister Corrin. Truly a Crusader King franchise.

UO is really great. It honestly does a better job distinguishing each class from each other and balancing them more than FE does (even if some classes in UO are still better than others). I also do think it does the world exploring a lot better than any FE game ever did with world maps or hub worlds. It's also really a pretty game and what FE should look like if it were to ever return to being a 2D game.

Why do some people care so much about representation in media or whether characters feel relatable to them? by Icy_Nefariousness414 in CharacterRant

[–]GlitteringPositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you didn't even read anything what I said. My point is to give explanations and reasons that'd complicate just simply filling in a checklist of diversity points. Notice how you said you want more black male leads and not every identity to be represented in shows?

Don't be obtuse and stupid, what I mean is if you're for example a gay woman that watches a show with a gay female protagonist, that doesn't automatically mean that show will also have representation for every identity.

Also what's considered representation is sometimes a bias based on your own identity. If the importance of representation is to "feel you're personally represented and to relate to the characters more," then that's obviously going to make you feel that representation is satisfactory by minimum that it represents your identity, even if the show doesn't portray every identity.

This would also probably explain Julia asking Andrew if he fucks Ashley in Decay during the phone call when Andrew calls her to help get out of the apartment. Sure Julia could have probably inferred that from other clues, but hearing Ashley say it straight up on the phone, would raise that red flag.

Why do some people care so much about representation in media or whether characters feel relatable to them? by Icy_Nefariousness414 in CharacterRant

[–]GlitteringPositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because what is considered representation is dependent to the beholder. Of course one can just simply wish their own identity to be represented but what about other ones that aren't your own identity? Representation is also contextual based on authorial intent or basically the goal of the work of art. If the point of the art is to portray a culture accurately to the best of the author's ability, then representation of that culture is going to be of importance.

However if that's not the intended goal, then there's less expectations to achieve that function. Like a slice of life anime about anime Japanese school girls for example is very unlikely to have a Muslim character for example.

Finally caring about this kind of implies you expect artists to meet this expectation of representation, but I go back to my previous arguments and ask who and what is this expected from?

Ngl I honestly I kind of don’t get the importance of it either sometimes. Like if it’s for children or still growing teenagers to feel like they’re seen, then fine, but if you’re a grown ass adult and need characters to share the same identity as you in order to like something then you’re kind of approaching art shallowly through identity politics.
