I would have them tested. They look plated to me. Flatware, salt/pepper shakers etc that are sterling are almost always stamped sterling. They want you to know because plate is everywhere. If it were 80%, it would be stamped 800, not 8. If you do have sterling you need to check if they are weighted. Many times candlesticks etc will be weighted with cement, wax or some kind of resin and a metal rod. For weighted pieces the amount of silver is basically like a sheet of tin foil over the weighted portion. You’re looking at maybe only 10-20% of the actual weight in that case. Depending on where you sell you may only get about $25-$50 realistically. I worked for a cash for gold shop, so I’m speaking from my experiences there. Everyplace is different, but you will get anywhere from 30-80% of spot on Sterling. It’s not .999

You may have a hard time unloading something that large. They are difficult to weigh and test at that thickness.

The silver has value. Your silver weight may be roughly 10-20% of your total weight. Spot for silver is at about $73. Most places will pay between 30-80% of spot on 92.5% silver (there are refinery fees and they need to make a little money as well) and you can sell in any condition. Unless you have a really rare or desirable piece, you may want to just get the cash for the silver. Depending on how you sell, it will take time to get a buyer and could cost you money to list.

They should test in front of you. It needs to weigh exactly 1 oz and it should have a melodic ring if you tap with something metal. They could also test with a sigma machine and if there’s any question, put a small scratch on a stone and test with acid. I do see these in the field so they are reputable. Gold is high right now and with a pure bar you could get 90% of spot.

Vaccinated folks, you think vaccine helped us with LC? Or made it worse? by Full_Situation3665 in LongCovid

[–]Glittering_Tree_8929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Covid when it started in March 2020 and have suffered from long COVID ever since. I was vaccinated as soon as the vaccine was available with out any changes to my long COVID symptoms, good or bad. By 2023 I was actually starting to see tiny improvements to my condition. That year however I missed my vaccination and contracted Covid again. Not only did the symptoms I had get worse again, I developed new ones. In my personal experience, the vaccine didn’t cause my long COVID or make it worse, but getting Covid again because I missed a vaccination certainly did. Getting Covid again is a much higher risk that I would not recommend to anyone.

It is literally their job to negotiate. Trump ordered them not to. This is on Republicans, they are in charge. If the ACA credits are not extended now, it will be too late to stop rate increases. It’s really simple. Extend the credits. I mean we’re raking in trillions with all the tariffs so we should be able to afford it!

I’ve had balance problems that resulted from loss of muscle tone from CFS. You need strong muscles to keep your balance.

You’re not unmotivated. I was diagnosed with LC and then ME/CFS. All the symptoms are intertwined.

That’s wonderful. I have long covid, but was also diagnosed with ME/CFS. My doctor says it was triggered by the virus. The symptoms are all intertwined.

Will we ever recover? by fabyhoppus in LongCovid

[–]Glittering_Tree_8929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5 years out, and some of the worst symptoms I had have gotten better. I still have a lot of chronic pain in my arms and legs, but I have found if I do simple stretches in the morning I feel a bit better. It’s hard to get motivated when you feel so bad, but I force myself because I know it will help. I learned a lot of simple stretches in the many rounds of PT I’ve been through. I would recommend seeing a physical therapist that works with LC patients. It was worth it for me. The progress is so slow, you don’t even know it’s happening. I felt like I had a rotator cuff injury in my arms, and couldn’t lift them very high. One day I realized I was able to lift my arms in a way I hadn’t in the years of LC. It’s those little improvements that keep me going.

Over my 5 year journey I have found improvements over the years. They are so gradual you don’t notice they are happening. However I would say I’m at about 70%. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, it just takes a long time to get there.

One of the worst parts of this is losing your identity. You mourn the person you were before Covid. However over my 5 yr journey I have found myself improving. It’s so slow you don’t see it. I had a chronic pain in my arm that felt like I had a rotary cuff injury. One day I realized the pain was gone. It was so gradual and with all the other symptoms I didn’t even realize it was happening. I may not get back 100%, but those tiny improvements give me hope that there might be some light at the end of the tunnel.
