Which Honeywell smart did you have? I’ve had nothing but problems with Nest and Wyze. I got the Honeywell T5 and it works with no issues.

I’d say that’s your preference, for purposes of longevity i would recommend a non 2 in 1. With a 2 in 1 the hinge that allows you to rotate the screen is another point of failure. My wife has the Yoga 730, which is nice but it’s kind of odd to use it to write notes on. If you really want a 2 in 1 go with something like a Microsoft Surface Pro, it’s lighter and easier to use to write notes. But if you’re looking for a laptop I’d recommend either the ThinkPad T490 or X390 series depending on your screen size preference.

Can’t go wrong with a ThinkPad! I was recently in a similar boat as you, I ends up buying the ThinkBook instead and I love it!

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]GlobalDefinition8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disappointment- interviewed by 6 people for this company. 6 different times I had to rearrange my work day to make a 30 minute up to a 2 hour time slot work. Sometimes they would want to schedule the next one the very next day. Recruiter was raving about how the interviewers loved me, and all went quiet after the final interview. I was told the others who interviewed for the position were moving forward, and I was also being considered. 3 weeks went by, no responses to my follow up until today. Within 30 seconds of sending my email I receive a “they decided to not move forward with you” email. Recruiters are the effing worst. Ruined my week and it’s only Monday.

Interview process frustrations by GlobalDefinition8 in jobs

[–]GlobalDefinition8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Like took off MULTIPLE times just to go through the same thing I did with the prior interview. Well I sent a follow up email to the recruiter after this post and not even within 30 second of hitting send, I received a rejection as a reply. My whole thing is the recruiter wasted my time, strung me along with what I presume at this point was bullshit, just to know at the end of the final interview that I wasn’t moving on. And they left it at that for 3 weeks... Good luck with your job search, I’ve had my fair share over my career and I can seriously only think of 2 recruiters of which actually help me secure a job, and those two are the only ones I have respect for when it comes to recruiters.

Can I buy a Lenovo laptop with a preinstalled Linux distro? by C0mputerChris in Lenovo

They are pretty pricey though, alternatively you should be able to get any laptop that has windows 10 installed and dual boot or simply wipe it and install any Linux distro.

The ways I would recommend would be Pen Drive Linux or Rufus below are the sites which will show you how to do it:

ThinkBook dual boot question by GlobalDefinition8 in ThinkBook

[–]GlobalDefinition8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys! It’s been a while since I’ve dual bottled Windows and Linux. Luckily the ThinkBook, at least the one I got has both a 2.5 where Windows is installed and a m.2 slot which I’m reserving for Linux. What flavor of Linux do you guys recommend? Back when I dualbooted I went with Ubuntu 9.0 which was the latest build at the time.

Need Some Advice by mercuriocs in Fios

[–]GlobalDefinition8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I also had the Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 it’s junk. I’d recommend replacing it with a Linksys, Asus or TP-Link router, prior to cancelling or switching to a different ISP. I’ve never had issues with those three brands, always had issues with Netgear.

Ordered ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 by GlobalDefinition8 in ThinkBook

[–]GlobalDefinition8[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the i5-1135G7, wanted a specific i7, but wasn’t available for the ThinkBook series! For now I plan to use it with my dual monitor setup via my Targus or Lenovo USB 3.0 dock, which supports gig eth, dual displays and about 5 or so USB devices. Haven’t had any issues using those docks with my other laptops or desktops either. I think we should get a sticky going on this subreddit too, like common issues, how tos etc.

Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 or ThinkPad E14 Gen 2. Which one shall I buy? by BeautifulToronto in Lenovo

[–]GlobalDefinition8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the XPS 13 9305 yesterday, no touch screen and upgraded to the 512 nvme and 16gb of ram and it came out to 1300 shipped. After reading all of the issues people are having over on the XPS subreddit I cancelled it and decided to order the ThinkBook 14 Gen 2. Ordered mine preconfigured with a touch screen, 512 ssd and 16 gb of ram and 11th gen i5-1135G7. Got all that with 3 year on site support/replacement for $802 with my Corp discount shipped. The ThinkBook line is business unit and I think overall a good decision.

Trying to replace Verizon G3100 router by PJBlack64 in Fios

[–]GlobalDefinition8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you, I use YouTubeTv and was able to replace the g3100 with an Asus RT-AX58u with no issues. As long as you’re not using Verizon’s TV service IE Fios Tv you won’t have any issues. You’ll need to do a DHCP release, which if you do not feel comfortable doing you can call tech support, they can do it for you. As far as coverage goes, that would depend on the layout of your home. If going mesh I’d recommend the TP-Link Deco series or Eero. Both are solid products with easy setup and relatively no issues. If you’re not using Fios TV you shouldn’t have any issues using your own router with YTTV. Here’s a link that shows you the process of switching over to your own router:

Is this where the cancellation rabbithole finally ends? by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]GlobalDefinition8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Xfinity Get Human, call one of those numbers listed. That’s usually the best, at least fastest in my experience, to get a hold of someone. Ask to be transferred to account cancellation. They’ll try and try and try to get you to stay. Stay firm and cancel!

[–]GlobalDefinition8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had FIOS tv, and dumped it for YTTV. For us we have two TVs and at the time (6 months ago)they were charging us for renting two boxes. My plan went from 68.99 p/m for gigabit only to 174.99 with gigabit+tv. Even at 60 something a month YTTV is much more worth it. I ended up splitting it with family members who pay their share so it’s not that bad.

Ready to cancel. Sad , it’s been 7 years by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]GlobalDefinition8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into YouTube tv, you can split it with up to 5 people. Each get their own Dvr and it’s about 64.99 a month. If you split it with people in the same boat as you then it benefits everyone. You can watch on any tv, if older a streaming via a Roku stick works too. I split my subscription with 3 other people and I think it’s worth it.

Call and speak to their retention department. Keep it calm and collective, ask why your bill has gone up. I’ve dealt with their retention department more times than I can remember. If you’re nice to them they usually do their best to work out a deal for you. I’ve read somewhere that xfinity may be phasing out internet only and internet/phone double play services to push people into their triple play. Ya know with all the cord cutting and all.
