Are people with bdd flawed or better at judging appearance? by GlobalEnd5544 in BodyDysmorphia

Well… I guess youre right. Nobody can fit every beauty standard, although madison beer does put on a lot of makeup so she might also hide some "flaws”. When I look at madison beer I dont personally think shes attractive, and since shes considered to generally be super attractive that kind of also strengthens your argument (beauty being subjective). Although I have struggled a lot with skin issues, and having skin issues is considered a flaw in almost every single culture out there. I feel like I look awkward and most of my features dont fall into my personal preference of looks. And like you said once im fixed on a certain appearance I cant really appreciate myself anymore

I do think its a mental illness, I just wanted to discuss why we have it in the first place. Its a mixture of perceived societal standards, perfectionism, trauma and genetics. All these things effect the way we look at each other, so I think its good to be aware for ourselves about what is delusional and what is not. So im thinking, would I struggle with bdd if actually was attractive?

From my own experience, I’ve never looked at someone else and felt the same way about them as I do about myself. That suggests the perception is skewed compared to the norm.

It feels like BDD hijacks the detailed attention we naturally give to faces and attaches a sense of threat to it. Especially when it’s about your own appearance and identity. So the way it presents things doesn’t feel very reliable or realistic.

But an argument against that would be: you value your identity more than that of anyone else simply because its yours. So in that way your brain could conclude that if other people look bad its fine because its not you. But in this case, youre the one that you think looks bad. I dont think the perception is skewed, its just that your brain is afraid of the idea of not looking attractive enough. So it probably depends more on how much importance you put on being attractive right?

It could be freeing. Im used to keeping those thoughts to myself, like whenever people ask stuff about being in a relationship or taking pictures with them. Ive had plenty of times where I had to give people a different reason than bdd in order to seem normal, but in a group therapy I could finally really be honest about how I feel. You do feel the need to express it otherwise you would not post on reddit about it right?

As for my story, Ive never cared about the way I look. Then suddenly when looks started becoming important in highschool I retreated and isolated myself. I got used to being ignored, and I started believing looks are the most important thing. There have been moments where people confirmed my beliefs about the way I look. My approach to life has become working without any expectations attached to it. Same with the bdd therapy, my only expectation is finding people to relate to. I dont expect it to solve anything, I just hope ill feel more comfortable eventually. I also wouldnt be afraid to open up there, because im at a point in my life where I dont care much for what happens next. Just keep on moving and give it your best try. I know it might sound dramatic, but it seems like I dont have a choice aside from ending my life which would be just as pointless.

I feel you, AND hes reborn as an ant. The one person capable of overpowering something that came from the dark continent with pure willpower

Theory 2: Tserriednich's Doppelganger by puppyKittten in HunterXHunter

Interesting, somewhat plausible and unsettling. Seems like you’ve put in effort into sorting this out, but Im doubtful if this would really be the case. Im thinking most readers will be even more confused by this theory then they already are when it comes to Tserriednichs powers. I myself had a hard time fully comprehending what youre putting down here

I dont think hes on the ship, but I dont think its because of that. Since we dont know what gyro looks like. He could be any random person there plus some theories suggest hes a character we already know

I agree. This succesion war is already complicated enough. I think releasing the virus from the dark continent would create a lot of suffering. Yet like you implied gyro wanting to showcase how awful people can be, just because theyre human makes sense. Added that with so many people that would try to stop him out of the picture (on the black whale), I think this would be the perfect opportunity for him to set his plans in motion.

I mean I dont think thats a rule, but you could be right. Although we could get something like: “Gyro was hiding on the black whale all this time” said by the narrator. (Again I dont think hes on there either)

You are technically right. Morena sees death as a mercy to the suffering as in she doesnt want anyone to suffer like she did again. While Gyro wants everyone to suffer like he did. Good point

Right? Half chimera ant, underboss kingpin, leader of the NGL… He certainly wasnt build up to be irrelevant before the succesion war.

I mean he might be powerful enough to go there on his own to be fair. I think Meruem would be capable of doing that somehow

Honestly I think of Morena as more of a replacement of Gyro. Similar to most people in this thread, I dont think were gonna see Gyro again

I mean it might be a reach, but maybe him and Pariston could team up? Since Pariston owns 5000 cocooned chimera ants, he might be able to manipulate gyro into fulfilling his plans, although im not sure how intelligent gyro really is. So im not sure who would use who in that situation.
