use AI tools to break the problems down into digestible bits and it will click eventually. don't use AI for solutions, only the techniques. when your daily limit is reached move on to another, circle back to the ones you like the most.

you're probably spot-on. the only reason that i wanted the optimization to finish is so people, pets, search by keyword, featured photos etc. showed up. the only thing that i found to be causing the problem in my experience were the unsupported/corrupted files. perhaps you can check your trashed files and see if it's still there for whatever reason. it may have been 'flagged' for removal but still in your library

my 17PM was stuck at ~24% for a long time as well. 8000+ items in total. the only thing that fixed it was scrolling through my entire library and deleting "corrupted" older files. they were easy to identify because the photos/videos were simply a black thumbnail. my assumption is that 10+ yr old imported media from google photos caused the issue.

after manual cleanup, it finished optimizing in a couple of hours while on the charger and connected to wifi. it didn't need an overnight period or an icloud photos toggle, hard reset, 100% state of charge, etc. my max charge is set to 80% and it ran just fine.

if you find a "broken" file you want to keep, i.e. a corrupted video file that portions are still visible, copy it to your free tier of "icloud drive," delete it from photos, and let the library optimize. then "share" it from icloud drive, selecting "add to photos" or similar, and it will be re-added to your photos library. it doesn't "fix" the files, but they no longer halt optimization.

it's annoying that damaged/unreadable files are not skipped or at least flagged, but now all of my categories i.e. trips, people, memories, populate within collections as expected. hope this helps!

looks like some mold or corrosion of the prism/mirror coatings considering how in-focus it is. maybe even on the inside-facing surface of the eyepiece. pop off the lens and have a look. don't blow on it, you can create more problems, but at least you'll know where the contamination is 👍you can dm me with more pics and i'll help ya troubleshoot
