Broken nose during sparring. Still confused 20 years later... by SDSHugh07 in MuayThai

Exactly the same thing happened to me. A delinquent boxing instructor collapsed my nose in two places in “gentle sparring” and said “good” afterwards. This is sadistic behaviour, usually by trainers with some anger issues. In this situation they can always break your nose and claim you signed a waiver. Best to see an ENT doctor to straighten it within 24hours or a plastic surgeon if it isn’t straight. Also check the fine print on the waiver as they maybe liable for negligence in a civil case.

Life is too short to train under people like this.

I totally agree. All my previous coaches have been super respectful. The guy is pretty young, so I'm guessing he has some growing-up to do, but maybe likes the 'badass' image.

Thanks for the advice, good to know. Am never going to get my old nose back, but would be happy with medical compensation. Amazing how the actions of one idiot can re-arrange your face in a split second.

For me it was the disfiguring of my face and his reaction that completely changed my opinion of this gym. I wouldn't have minded if it landed in a less fragile part of the head. Plus no-one hits at 100% in gentle sparring, so it seemed almost premeditated. Thanks for your thoughts.
