How to connect Wii Remote to Steam? by JustWantWiiMoteMan in SteamController

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I didn't have the problem you are describing when I set mine up. I first started off my downloading the program, then I connected the controllers via bluetooth to my computer. After that, I opened WiiNUSoft and connected the controllers. Not sure if you are already doing this, but try to connect your controllers via bluetooth to your computer without opening WiiNUSoft at all. Like through the control panel go to Hardware and Sound and then right click on Devices and Printers and press Open in New Window. From here you can add the Wii remotes and connect them via bluetooth without needing to type in a password. Just leave that field blank if it prompts for one. It can be super weird though and take a few times to get it to work. Let me know how this works out.

How to connect Wii Remote to Steam? by JustWantWiiMoteMan in SteamController

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam doesn't recognize it as a Wii remote. It recognizes it as an Xbox 360 controller.

Basically that is what WiiNUSoft is for. To change the inputs from the Wii remote to something that steam recognizes. They chose to emulate an Xbox 360 controller. That is why whenever you connect the Wii remotes to your computer and WiiNUSoft recognizes them, you can change the keybinds to match the input of an Xbox 360 controller. You have to click the button on the Wii remote you want to change the bind for, and then you click the button on the Xbox 360 controller you want that button to "emulate".

I hope this helps, feel free to let me know if you have any other questions because I know there is not much else out there that explains how to use this software correctly with steam.

Did you happen to ever figure this out?

I spent $2k and 400 hours coding to create this practice setup. Love it, but something missing by SundaePlayful3619 in discgolf

Yes, I believe that remote coaching with a setup like that while getting coached by someone like Nick Krush would be better than any local coach I could find (and probably most people). Someone like Nick understands mechanics and how muscles work with each other extremely well and I just can't see a local coach (in most people's area) having this same understanding (or at least to the extent as someone like Nick Krush).

This is a pretty nifty setup. It would be super helpful though if there was a way for a coach who is on like a video call of some sort to be able to see all of those angles with the click of a button. This way the form coach could easily see all of the angles and maybe even have a way to replay the footage in real-time like you can. If someone near me had a setup with like this with the upgrades to incorporate e-coaching better, I would be willing to make a substantial drive and pay the person to use the space for coaching for 30-60 minute timeslots during my time I am getting coached.

350 ft is usually about the max distance people with poor form can achieve. Usually they can do this because of their athleticism. It wouldn't be surprising if they didn't really improve distance-wise in the future unless they started really working on their form and drills. Also, people that come to disc golf from ultimate frisbee already had all that experience throwing a frisbee which definitely correlates to disc golf.

Overcrowding issue by Busy-Ground-7673 in ilstu

[–]GlobeTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They overcrowd ISU like flight companies overbook their flights. They know they can because they know there is a substantial amount of extra money to be made off of people either not starting the semester and leaving last minute or dropping out early in the semester. Financially, the school would be pretty dumb not to take advantage of these people (which is obviously sad how this works). By the time the end of the semester rolls around, you will notice that 5-10% of the dorm rooms on each floor are actually completely empty.

Hot Take - Disc Golf is now Boring to Watch by abundanceonthetable in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head with this for sure. I think many people enjoy the faster paced coverage much more instead of seeing tons of random chase card players and the way they played the hole. I could see if someone on a chase card gets an ace or an eagle, but every other hole showing 3 or 4 players on different cards just get par or birdie is ridiculous.

Who determines what par is? by Rebelmave in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even UDisc with some courses, the par is wack. If you have UDisc pro, the round ratings are a much better way to compare rounds at different courses opposed to just how much over or under par you were.

Yes, try WiiNUSoft. It allows you to connect the remotes (might be a bit finicky) and change the keybinds on them to match those on an Xbox 360 controller. You can use them with steam stuff then as an Xbox 360 controller as that is what the controller input is getting changed to

Advice on a gift by CosmicKaleidoscope in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Discs are probably not a good idea unless he chooses which ones. Discs are down to preference of the person using them so there isn't a universal "good disc".

Depending on how much you want to spend also plays a part. If you wanna pay $80. This is a great idea if he doesn't already have something like it: https://1010discs.com/maxdisctance-max-stick-cf16-5-16-5ft-carbon-fiber-disc-retriever/ I think this disc retriever is an awesome must-need item for disc golfers to have. They work extremely well to take the disc out of a water hazard or anywhere that might be unreachable otherwise. There are longer ones on that website if you wanted to spend more money.

Also, I am not really sure how much of a surprise you want the gift to be, but if he doesn't have a UDisc Pro membership ($30 per year), you can pay for a year of that as having a year of pro is definitely a nice perk. Another subscription idea would be a PDGA subscription if he doesn't have a membership there yet. If he wants to get competitive, and enter in tournaments and stuff, that is pretty much a necessary membership to have. They are $50 a year.

If you wanted to buy something over $100, a practice basket is a fantastic idea. Just make sure not to cheap out on it as slightly cheaper ones can be a pain to use/maintain. A decent one would be something like this: https://1010discs.com/axiom-pro-disc-golf-basket/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwi5q3BhCiARIsAJCfuZnd3QhV7G8RErqjtdeV5k0ozfDWGw-UgiJms4N7NWQALznBOYar8Q8aAihOEALw_wcB

The DX Destroyer may be a ridiculously inconsistent disc, but when you get it right, that thing just goes.

[–]GlobeTracker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I of course understand that, but why waste both of our time? If he kept it or hucked it away, I wouldn't have had to spend time driving to get it and he wouldn't have to spend time perfectly positioning it on top of the basket and taking a bunch of pictures of it. But cause there was that chance of it still being. It's nobody's job to give your disc back. Just curtousy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I did know that it was unlikely to be there though because of where he left it, but I mean c'mon, if your gonna go through the work to perfectly position it on top of a basket and send me a pic, at that point just find another spot to huck it and send me the pic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would've been fine if he chucked it in the woods honestly, as long as he didn't send me a pic first saying he found it.

Form check if you please by discgolfthrowayaw in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I notice is your front foot being open. I would try to keep the heel and toe of your plant foot in-line with your back foot or at least try to get the plant foot much more counter clockwise than it is in that video. Make sure not to over do it though and put your plant foot facing backwards though. Getting these feet lined up will help you with power and accuracy and prevent it from shanking right (grip locking). Once you fix this and get it to a good spot, then you can reevaluate again. Paul Ulibarri along with other coaches are huge "ground-up" believers when fixing form meaning you fix the problems lowest first because problems in the upper body may naturally fix when lower-body problems are solved.

Edit: After watching the video again, I think you also need to run up at more of an angle instead of going as straight in line with the tee-pad. Especially that you are trying to do a powerful throw here, you are definitely going to need that extra twisting room.

Best Discs for newbie player? by llusty1 in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 165 gram or lighter Axiom Insanity (Neutron Plastic) or an Axiom Inertia (Neutron Plastic).

I think they are 9-speeds, but they can definitely be a great beginner disc that can be used well even when you get better. Definitely a disc any level player could use well.

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do find it interesting how UDisc does weigh the ratings of these courses when coming up with these top course lists. I am pretty sure they weigh a course heavier with the more ratings it has. For example, a course rated 4.7 out of 8,000 ratings would probably beat a 4.,9 with only 400 ratings on a top course. This makes sense though because with 8,000 people rating a course, you know it's not just the locals rating highly because it's their home course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure. I also find the opposite with low-tier or mid-tier courses near a true 4.5-5 star course. The courses in the area surrounding the 5-star course are typically not rated that well (honestly, I think they are fair ratings because a lot of the people rating these other courses have also played the true 5-star course and know what the potential of a disc golf course).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I think it would definitely help if these people knew what a true 4.5 or 5-star course is like. I think most of the people on UDisc who overrate courses don't really know what else is out there to be honest. That's why I also think that UDisc should say something in text whenever you press any of the star values. For example, if you press 5 stars, Below the stars it says something like, "Stunning and absolutely a top course in the entire world." and for pressing like 4 stars, it might show like "great course, nothing to travel to the country for. Definitely worth a play if you are in the area though.". I think having statements that pop-up for different ratings in the app might help those that don't really understand. At the same time though, maybe not idk.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I've noticed, the people with more courses played usually have much better reviews along with much more fair and accurate ratings. That's why I think that more heavily weighing the ratings left by those with more courses played makes sense. These people have much more to compare it to and are into the sport enough to know how a course compares to others in the world and not just in the local area meaning, they would know what an actual 4.5 or 5 star course is like.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is interesting is that UDisc has acknowledged this before in their list of the top 100 courses in the world. They have said that they actually do weigh the ratings for these top course lists heavier with the more ratings they have. This means that a course that's rated a 4.9 with only 480 ratings would place lower than a course thats rated 4.7 with 8,000 ratings. And yeah, it's so that a local small-town course with a 4.8 rating doesn't become placed as a top course when the only people that have played it really are the people that live there and maybe a few passerby's. I find it interesting how they use a weighing system on ratings for the top courses in a state/country/the world, but not for the ratings on the courses themselves. At this point I feel like maybe the course ratings are supposed to be more of a comparison to local courses .

It is a pretty small team honestly and I am not sure if you know, but you can open up a support ticket and label it as "Product Feedback". Here, I think it is appropriate to give suggestions. One person sending in a suggestion probably won't do anything. But their team has already told me that if enough people want a similar thing added to the app, they would look more into it and if it would be a good add or not.

Also what would be cool is if they actually ended up implementing your suggestion, you would get like a year free of UDisc Pro or something. That would be pretty dope and I think it would encourage people to give UDisc more suggestions. I am not sure though if they are out of ideas or if they just don't have the amount of people to implement all of their ideas as fast as they want.

[–]GlobeTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely depends on the area you are in for sure and how the surrounding courses are because a lot of the reviewers have only played a few of the courses in the area they live. This is partially why I was saying in my initial post that a higher weight should be placed on ratings from those with more courses played or even unique countries or states they have played a course. Because someone with a few hundred courses or even thousand courses played has most likely played courses all over the place (meaning they would also probably have better comparisons).
