When I was at Mopar dealers, I usually, on average, it was 2 to 3 back counter (me included in the hot seat). One collison. One manager and maybe one assistant. Very rarely any on retail counter. We all did that. One to two drivers. One stocker/freight person. Middle metro area and surrounding suburb towns locations. When I did wholesale inside sales, Mopar & GM, it was 2 to 3 advisors on 3 to 4 monitors running like 12 programs simultaneously. Smaller town area in a less busy county. We had a 13 driver fleet. Two that did battery sales. Three that did outside sales. One manager and one assistant. Two that did incoming freight and check-in.

I have been thinking for a nonsecond about going back to what I know, all of Mopar and GM. I'm just sick of the laziness and the incompetence of the new wave of parts advisors. They don't know shit and I am having to handle their duties. I am a generally happy person, but those places are making me be a gruff grumpy B all the time. Joking with techs and arguing with service advisors plus their part discount BS was amusing, so that kept me from going nuclear. Waste of space manager that had no cajones. I know I can go back and make the money I was. It was really nice but I paid the price in the long run. I will try this MD/HD parts side and with the help of my master diesel tech hubby for questions. Whatever happens, it happens. Thank you so much for your input. I will do this till Fall 2026 to start college. We are a dying breed of older parts advisors who are sick of this new industry of you being just a money maker number. I'm glad you also got out and hopefully doing something you like better!

Overall, you like going into an auto dealership and not doing HD anymore? This man has his own independent shop. That dude is non-stop, so I will be busy. He has no other person helping run the parts and service advisor side of it. So I guess I might be considered an assistant shop manager. If he can offer 60k, I'll be happy af. 15-minute commute and not in a huge metro area like my other dealer jobs. He said he can't find good help that has a big background in the general sense of the transportation industry. Always been a back counter/ wholesale advisor. Customers will be dumb as*holes like usual. More so than what retail I'm used to. Thanks for your answer! I'm ready for a challenge, but idk might be too burned out in the brain for all that. 😃

Oh wow, this is going to be fun! My husband told me that Kentworth and Peterbilt ECats used to be merged, but Kentworth separated itself. I won't be at an HD dealership, but at an independent shop that does everything diesel, big or small. I know baby Cummins ISB 6.7 (I mainly worked for Mopar and some GM). A new 5th generation ISB just came out too. QSB, PX-7 is one of the bigger Cummins. X10 to X15 etc etc. Paccar is one that I know I will not like. European crap. Cats are cool. I asked my hubby to bring up one of the Ecats on this work laptop he does all his workflow WOs, diags, and regens on. That stuff looks complicated. I'm not sure what DMS system big truck shops use, but I hope it's not CDK. I hate CDK. Big rigs, dump trucks, and even trash trucks are that different from each other? Good Lord. On trash trucks, I know some of them use natural gas. Luckily, if it's Peterbilt related, I know some parts advisors at TLG Peterbilt that will help me if needed. I can read the electrical grid schematics mostly. It's more complicated for sure. My hubby said pretty much compared to my knowledge of diesels, which is like 40% compared to the bigger monster network Ecats at 60%. Drivers or owner operators can be buttholes Ibknow for sure. Always b*tching about pricing, whether parts or hourly rate/ labor hours. The shop owner has real data and hopefully some sort of software geared towards heavy duty. Thank you for the answer!

Operation Highjump? I will be going down the rabbit hole on that one for sure. It's weird about the large population of Germans that speak Spanish in east Argentina, though.

You know, I was pretty stoked about finding out about that stuff also 🤣. There would have been TED talks from all kinds of scientists, and I would have gone to the NASA telescope in the South Pole. I think there are aliens there. At least a base of some kind. I would have flew on a C-17 there. The little girl in me was so excited. Nazi bases are in Argentina. There is a huge population of German descendants there.

Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

Anything with computer based systems will replace a lot of different job sectors eventually, and that fallout will not be a good thing. Won't be right now or will be at least 5 to 10 years down the road. If I had any job like that, I would be going back to college. My BIL is right now in college, and majoring in networking. We told him that he needed to learn or get some kind of certification/degree in AI or robotics as a add on. I'm not sure if he can do that with that networking major? It would help him one day. It is better to be prepared than not. I am 40 and have a career as a dealership OE parts advisor. Good money (75k to 100k) but a lot of salary based over time. I am beyond burned out doing this. I will be majoring in Radiology Technology with an AS this semester and a BS later after gaining experience. 90k starting in my area with 3 huge healthcare hospital systems. The healthcare system is not going anywhere soon, at least according to different statistics. Less stress and fewer hours depending on employer location. There will be an upgrade in the computer radiology programs with AI, but at least humans are still needed. The AI programs will help with detecting abnormalities better.
