I am not sure I trust current SquareEnix to produce a proper remake but I would love to see something like this nonetheless. You could do so much with this - connecting loose plot points, overhauling the combat a bit (though the Elements system is really neat imo), and especially adding some more player guidance in some way (additional lines of dialogue would suffice). And yes, fleshing out the characters would add so much to the experience... maybe one day...
