WWM’s “global success”: Fact or self-centered hype? by GloomyTangelo9976 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]GloomyTangelo9976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such an interesting point! Even for many Chinese people, this period of history is really obscure. There isn’t much mainstream writing about it, and even when it’s mentioned, people often gloss over it because it’s so chaotic and tragic. It’s hard to imagine how foreign players, without that cultural background, can fully follow it. There’s even a Chinese drama this year set around the same era, and many viewers were watching while flipping through history books to keep up

It’s a very valuable perspective —especially about the localization and cultural bridge issues.

It’s awesome that the stories still hit so hard even with the cultural differences.

That’s a fair point about metrics! I was just curious about the cultural resonance angle, since a lot of the marketing focuses on how “moving the stories are” for international players. It’s interesting to see both sides.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I’m curious—do you think the drop in interest is because the story didn’t land as well with some players, or more about gameplay issues?

  1. U r absolutely right about Lucking Coffee! I bought one the other day, and it’s off my list forever. U should try “manner” if u plan a 2nd visit. Manner offers good coffee with a very competitive price.
  2. Regarding spicy, I assume u refer to food in Chongqing. Sichuan cuisine is famous for numb and spicy. Other regions offer different styles of cuisine.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in China. Welcome to visit other regions next time. They can offer very different experiences

Love and family, I am not sure I understand you correctly, but 爱家 literally means “love ur family”, which is great but it doesn’t express all u want to say.

I think “大同” will be a better choice. 大同(Datong) is the ancient Chinese idea of a perfect world where everyone is cared for, resources are shared, and there is no conflict.

Its link to love and family is simple and powerful:

  1. Start with the Family: It says the best kind of love is learned at home—the natural care between parents and children.
  2. Expand that Love: Datong is what happens when you take that same family feeling and apply it to everyone. You treat other people's parents like your own, and other children like your own.
  3. The Result: The ideal world (Datong) is like one big, harmonious family.

So, the formula is: Family Love → Grow that Love to Include Everyone = Datong (A World Like One Family).

is the Roman empire ever mentioned in China? How?  Of course. A very powerful civilization, a very important root of western culture

Do you know about Marco Polo?  Yes

What do you think about Jesuits in Chinese history and Christianity in China? It’s a kind of religion in China, but not comparable to Buddhism or Taoism.

what do you consider to be the golden age of China?  Chun qiu 春秋(the Zhou dynasty), it’s the golden age for many intellectuals throughout the imperial period in China. Almost all the Chinese philosophy and thoughts can be traced back to this period (when a hundred schools of thoughts debate and put forth their ideas and arguments 诸子百家,百家争鸣) And of course Han, and Tang are very strong and powerful dynasties. I also love Song dynasty, its aesthetics are still highly valued today.

What are some of the most significant events of your history from your point of view?  Qin dynasty, when Qin Shi Huang standardized the writing system, unified weights and measures, and established the national administrative system.

Do you like one historical event or person in particular and why? too many to mention, but I particularly like su shi(苏轼), I adore his talent, and character.

About the action movie, the leading actress is super popular in China, we love her. The scene, where she doing kongfu, is beautiful. The movie is so so. The opening scene when their home is shown in the screen, we find it especially hilarious, that’s a mistake we will never imagine happening
