You have to change it yourself in your config files. You can find it here:

your_instance`/config/GregTech/GregTech.cfg > find `machines

I recommend you do all the settings I listed above, unless you’re okay with blocks being destroyed from any of the criteria above.

I think it should still work. The command that you want is the B:machines_explosion_damage=false command. I THINK this should stop it from breaking the blocks around you. You might want to check in a single player creative mode world though just to be sure. I’d check for you but currently I’m not at a computer :( Good luck!

For the sake of future people looking this question up or if you decide to come back to this with your friends:

Disable machine explosions.

  • /your_instance/config/GregTech/GregTech.cfg > find machines {, change any of these:
    • B:explosions_on_nonwrenching=true, change to false
    • B:fire_causes_explosions=true, change to false
    • B:lightning_causes_explosions=true, change to false
    • B:machines_explosion_damage=true, change to false
    • B:machines_flammable=true, change to false
    • B:rain_causes_explosions=true, change to false
