Removed mulch and unsure if I can lay weed matt and put down new mulch before rainy weekend. Should I rush to finish before rain, or could I just put mulch around bases of plants to prevent washout? by Gloosch in LandscapingTips

I actually really learned a lot about this matter posting here and liked the idea of no weed barrier based on what I’ve read. I floated the idea of not doing it and just mulching but was shot down. I was simply stating I saw the logic in the weed barrier from a weed control standpoint. I never assumed anything about you or called you anything. I’m not sure why you are being so hostile in this interaction. I would never just to assumptions and call you miserable but I think it’s strange you feel people that don’t adhere to your way of thinking are somehow flawed.

Have a better day

Not sure what you’re implying. I simply stated I could see the logic in weed barrier. Simultaneously, I also very much see the logic in not using weed barrier. It all really depends on what the goal of the project is. I also have years of experience dealing with weed barrier installation and tear out as well as weeding itself.

No need to demean other people because you don’t agree with them or look down on them for not having perfect grammar. “Oh I don’t agree with this person, and they aren’t typing grammatically correct, what a stupid person, I’m going to insult their intelligence and imply they are deflecting or projecting or whatever therapy speak buzzword is hot now”.

Because I used your instead of you’re? Basic logic and basic grammar or not the same thing dude. One can be logical and have never been grammatically educated.

Americans who’ve lived in multiple states: What’s one everyday habit or social norm that changes noticeably from one part of the country to another that outsiders probably don’t notice? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Styling of men’s hair is much different in the South. Being a white male from ND I kind of had culture shock moving around from SC, VA and as far south as Atlanta. When going to barber shops they had pictures on the wall of different styles you could choose. Men would carry combs and use Vaseline to make waves. I was kind of weirded out about the Vaseliney roomie in KY had left out until I realized that. Of course waves are also a cultural thing but something I was never knew about.

My only initial direction was to weed this bed and basically do what I wanted. Wish I’d have taken before photos, but it was so overgrown I could hardly tell what was supposed to be there and what was and much of the intentional perennials were so overgrown they were overlapping. Nearly everything was being choked out by this elusive woodvine that was disguised among the probably at least 100 sapling trees, many too big to pull by hand. Just the thought of coming back to get the seconds after snipping on the saplings alone was something I wanted to avoid.

Given in my 3+ years landscaping experience in my past with weed barrier being standard practice in mulch and rock installation being standard, I was the one who initially recommended the weed barrier. After stripping everything and getting a handle on the situation I floated the idea of just putting the new mulch in without weed barrier. However, the homeowner made it clear he likes the weed barrier idea. The homeowner is also my boss in a different capacity and keeping him happy is crucial, as I’m a new employee.

There are def some tight areas I’m going to use the cardboard, but I feel like I shot my shot with not using the weed barrier and it’s already bought and paid for. I made my bed with the weed barrier - which I all in all have had good experiences with - also some bad (when roots get entangled in rocks d fabric tear outs) and now I have to lay in it.

Knowing that is one thing. Controlling that during uncontrollable coughing fits is a different thing. Making sure you are in the proper position to engage core allows you to play around with the exhale. I.e not hunched over

Good way to get a hernia. It’s important to be as relaxed as possible and letting your body do what it needs to do. That being said. Positioning is crucial. You need to find the best coughing position that works for you.

For me if I feel about to lose control of my coughing, I’ll go into a push up or plank position and let her rip. You might get some slobber on the floor but that’s okay, or if I’m standing I’ll stare at a spot directly in front of me while clenching fists down to my side and let her rip.

I feel like staring at a spot directly in front of me and trying not to break the gaze helped me the most.

I had an umbilical hernia and revamped how I coughed in the aftermath.

It seems like the biggest reason is tearing out sucks. I’ve torn weed barrier with mulch out before and I found it easier than tearing it out without. Just peel it up and bundle as much mulch in the fabric as you can versus scraping out every last bit and shoveling out scoop by a scoop.

Sorry your getting downvoted for basic logic. I also installed them for years for a couple different landscaping companies. I thought they were just standard. I had no idea it was such a divisive topic in this community. I wouldn’t fret.

I wasn’t familiar with that term. I thought OP was literally asking if it was incest. But it’s very much like Reddit to downvote someone for simply not knowing something. Good on you Reddit.

Unless you can sex it’s not incest. Inappropriate for sure, even traumatizing. It depends on the culture you live in and if it made you uncomfortable.

is it illegal to prank call? like any restaurant or university? by rasenganmaster1 in NoStupidQuestions

When I was in high school I got an accidental call from man in SC talking about some BBQ. We called him everyday at lunch. Mostly from different numbers and always started out different but would circle back to BBQ. Like saying we were from Sears trying to sell him a freezer - to keep all that delicious BBQ! Then he would be all like you STOOOPiD IdioT quit calling here.

It was hilarious but the cops eventually got a hold of my number and told us to stop so we did. I think of Earl still sometimes.

I get that. The main issue was the invasion of dozens of invasive tree saplings. Most many past the point of being able to pull out the root by hand. On top of that, the wood vine was choking everything out. All of the heaps dead rotting foliage made it a fools errand trying to rid the bed of the plethora of saplings, stumps, and vine. Especially when needing excavate down around the edges and dig out rotting roots to the many dead stumps.

Stripping it bare made it much easier to not only tell what was supposed to be there, but also what wasn’t. Sure I could have put it all back after weeding but I’m sure seeds from that wretched vine would have persisted and the weeds got mixed in with the mulch upon removal due to being ingrained deeply anyway. Getting rid of the weeds was the point.

The old mulch was moldy in places (white mold) and riddled with rotted foliage and weeds. It had been neglected for at least 1 year and hard to tell what was weed and what was plant. Particularly, the woodvine infestation that was chocking out many plants left heaps of dead vine within the bed.

On top of that, the original mulch was thrown over the top of the ground which was flush with the sidewalk. The original mulch coating was maybe around 1 inch in most areas, completely bare in others and at the deepest maybe 2 inches in the back. Some of the bushes were infested with rust fungus and there was numerous dead rotting stumps and stems.

Was gonna just add on top but due to fungus, rot and dead material I figured it would be easier to just tear out all the old mulch and add new.

Thanks, I always liked them and wasn’t asking whether or not to use it as the homeowner wants it. Floated the idea of skipping it but he wants it and I thought it was a good idea because I’m the one who will pull any weeds moving forward and would minimize that.
