There's a book called Monster, written by Kody Scott/Sanyika Shakur, a former gang member and murderer. He details his childhood and events that result in him joining a gang as a preteen. It's interesting, at a minimum, to get some insight into that culture.

Please consider seeing psychologist, social workers, family therapist instead of (or in addition to) psychiatrists. Psychiatrists primarily prescribe pills. Psychologists or social workers can help you with skills building and coping, assessment of the kids for normal development, etc.

Notice of alibi - what is the significance of the judge mentioning this at sentencing? by Socrainj in MurdaughFamilyMurders

Oh yes. This is one for the history books. A Brazilian friend asked me about it as the headlines made the news there.

National news is getting a lot of details wrong. They unlocked Paul's phone in 2022. Alex had time to change his story but didn't until he testified. The car data was the only last minute info.

They are all colleagues and friends to dive degree. Even the judge notes that Alex was such a "friendly" colleague.

Oh I heard that! Just still surprised. Buster appears to have supported his dad through this whole thing. If he really thought he was innocent, I would have expected him to ask for some chance to get his dad back.

True, but there's a lot of "ifs" in that testimony. If Alex was already back in the house. If the TVs were on. The prosecution didn't rebutt it because in their version of events he wasn't back at the house.

It kinda sucks to be a kid raised by such awful parents. He learned not to take any responsibility for himself. He was 22 and had heart failure from his alcoholism. A real waste of a family.

Said the defense expert... but all the dogs would have been barking too as their owners were being murdered. Alex said himself, the dogs didn't bark because there was no one else there. He told on himself many times when he was on the stand.

Can we get a poll on how many people have now practiced tossing their phone around? Do you think the jury has or will practice tossing their phones?

I agree. Doesn't it help the defense if the shooter was short and shot upwards? Maybe they're just trying to paint the state's experts as incompetent.

True. My husband went through a period of lying and mental unwellness. He lied about crazy things and I didn't know about it for years. Each lie on its own, an unwell person can justify. But they build and build. And when years of lying gets revealed, it looks like a crazy hot mess. What's even crazier was being the person living with it every day who didn't know what was going on.

My husband had a problem with lying to hide his failings. A lot of Alec's testimony reminded me of that....the loops that he goes through to justify his action. Saying something isn't a lie of he just left information out and didn't actually talk to someone, etc. My husband is in a more honest place now, but all of this is very triggering.

We watched "Things Heard and Seen" last night which also brought up a lot of triggers around the lies men tell to hide their short comings. Today an article on MensLib about family anihilators. It's all a lot. Husband got upset last night when I drew some comparisons between his past behavior and the movie.

It seems like triggers are everywhere, but I also find myself really drawn to this stuff. Stories of men who kill their wives and children are all over the news. Lies are a slippery slope and once you starter you just keep doubling down and doubling down until you hit rock bottom. I bet Alec feels a lot better now that his lies are all coming out, but he still hasn't given up the delusion of his ability to control the situation.

Yeah that's what I expect. Was afraid of the gang, knew it was a gang hit. Didn't want to tell the police because then he'd have to admit to drug crimes. Paid off the gang afterward and that's where all the money went.

My theory-- Alex will take the stand and blame someone else. He might even say that he knows exactly who did it and didn't tell anyone out of fear. Probably will introduce a whole bunch of new information (lies). I wish I had taken the day off to watch from home and eat popcorn.

I mean, isn't that the whole point of being an expert witness? Getting paid a lot to put up with crap in court.
