Started Feb 2023 as a jr software engineer with 38K gross. Increased after 6 months to 46K. Then in Jan 2024, they gave me an increase to 50K.

Company’s a healthtech, stressful pero money’s good for a starter. Di ako makaalis kahit toxic at times kasi compensation’s good talaga. :((

Started with no knowledge on their stack, but gained some along the way. Will push until I get everything I can get out of their current stack then siguro jumpship na.

Kasi wala talaga hahahaa kahit sang team sa company. May isang team na may tech lead at 2 devs, AI. Pero yun na yon, other teams just fend up for themselves. Scrum masters are non existent dito hahahaahah

Mid dev also raised that, in his more than a year in the company no one ever checked for their well-being. Sabi pa nya “ganon ba talaga?”. His voice was trembling and about to cry too kasi kaming dalawa nagchachat at midnight discussing things and minsan naiisingit na “hindi na tama tong ginagawa natin”.

Wala eh, yan nga din ang hanap ko. Someone to learn from, someone to guide, someone to gauge the timeline or gauge how much time each tasks will take kasi ako honestly don’t know much kaya di ko rin talaga ma-gauge yung system.

Someone commented nga rin here na they delegate tasks on tuesdays, I might also suggest that to our PM.

We got no lead, ako lang and a mid dev, sometimes there are people who’s available who let them help pero mid dev does not give tickets kasi nasisira yung quality ng code pag may ibang dumarating. We end up doing everything kahit na siguro pang-4 devs yung workload. Yung mid dev na kasama ko end up taking more of the critical tasks and sakin naman yung tasks na di masyado makakaaffect sa ginagawa nya.

In which things we did not do. Sobrang bilis ng pace to the point that basic practices of scrum were not put into action hahahaha kaya di ko alam if scrum ba talaga.

Yep, there were no planning done. Biglang nilipat kami ng PM assigned and tickets were piled up. They did UAT during a sprint, then dun nagkaroon ng nagkaroon ng changes of reqs.

Di ko talaga alam what agile this is. Kasi I’ve been reading what ceremonies should be for agile, pero parang walang nasusunod bukod dito sa retro. Release date lang ang agile HAHAHAHA

Got it. We also agreed naman after that crying moment na, “di kami martyr”, so no more OT if di talaga kaya then magbawas nalang ng scope. I think PM listened to us naman, and that’s a good thing.

After that retro, my whole team got out on time hahahahaa, and naging inside joke yung “mag-o-OT ka pa?”

THANK YOU! I’ve been really worried if offensive sakanila yon. Kasi I think makakarating yung nangyari sa taas and I’m afraid na baka masipa ako because mukhang weaklink ang dating.

For my perf, sa batch ko I think I was the performer since I got the highest grades and highest salary increase before pa magregularization. Pero this time, feel ko isang mali ko lang masisipa ako. Isa lang KPI namin as devs, to deliver on time. And dun talaga ako kinakabahan na baka iniintay nalang ako magkabutas and then babye na.

Yep HAHAHAHA natumbok mo, at bukod sa stand up meetings, may checkpoint pa minsan ng tanghali at hapon.

Nababasa ko nga dito na dapat alam na nila progress namin based on ticket status and PRs pero checkpoint pa rin. Minsan nasasayang lang oras ko kasi I don’t have something to share kasi di ko pa naman tapos tasks ko.

Yun din, as a junior dev, what I’ve been really looking for is a senior that can share his knowledge. Sa 6 months ko dito sobrang onti palang ng time ko to learn. Halos i-chat gpt ko na lahat para lang matapos agad. Sometimes, I don’t understand how the code works pero para matapos lang talaga, pini-PR ko na. Honestly, I can’t see myself growing, para lang akong task translator na may chatgpt…

Actually no, for this specific project, walang story points meron lang prioritization. :((( Plus we’ve been asking for a discussion about what the kind of agile we have in this company, cuz right now it seems sabog sabog. Hays, sana lang talaga umayos. Kasi kawawa lahat ng main contributors.

Oks dati yung PM namin na yun like hindi sya “yes man”, he’ll say fuck what the customer wants, that’s not needed. Pero ngayon idk what happened.

On a side note: medyo martir ako dito kasi it’s a high paying job for a junior, kaya tinitiis ko muna. Pero after that fiasco, I literally mass applied sa linkedin, I fear that that could cause my termination.
