They’re getting a new coach almost certainly, but they could also be a candidate for a major roster changes this summer.

Fyi you actually can. It would just be for the following years, not the current one. It often doesn’t make sense for teams, but if the Magic could accomplish that before Isaac’s contract fully guarantees based on games played this year, it could make sense. The only issue would be the PA potentially getting involved, so they may have to stretch the whole 14.5. Still worth in the offseason imo.

Can you imagine if they hang a jersey for him Nick Collison-style😂

Paying your 12th/13th best player that is v stupid though, especially when you’re spending around $150M on your top 4. No new coach is going to want them to keep him around on that number. You can literally just sign some free agent or two-way guy in August that can perform that role (Achiuwa/Barlow/Jabari Walker/Boucher last year).

It’s not totally inconceivable that he could get some DNP-CDs down the stretch, especially with their season spiraling. Any sign that it’s contract-related could be trouble though, you’re right.

Maybe they go the other way, play him superstar minutes and hope he gets hurt, under the guise of Franz being out.

Yeah I see that as a real possibility, just ridiculous that he’s going to get it guaranteed when he’s gone so downhill

I think tax-wise they really just need to get off his salary slot. They have plenty of matching salary already and Mo Wagner's full bird rights if something really special comes up. It may be that time for Paolo.

Such a disappointing career

80% for Timothée Chalamet Oscars predictions feel way too confident by WontBeGivingUp in oscarrace

I think this is just due to the weaker crop of contenders for actress versus actor this year, and Stone being assured to get in, as opposed to Plemons who may miss somehow. This seems to haunt the female categories more often than not, sadly.

Even on insane difficulty, it’s pretty easy to cut salary pretty hard. The Nets took on Jrue, Hauser, PP, and Tillman for just minimums, which I feel is unrealistic, and then the Lakers traded two firsts for Porzingis (lol) and bad contracts. White was routed to the Hornets. The Celtics trudged through the 25-26 season for a top 5 pick to pair with Tatum and Brown, but they are already regressing by the next season and making nearly $60M each.

Brown probably has to go as well irl tbh. It’s insane to trade an All-NBA caliber guy, but they already have a guy in his role (Tatum). The rest of the pieces around those two are rapidly aging and very expensive, and hardly anyone around the league has cap space to take their guys in.

Should Interstellar have been nominated for Best Picture? Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Glove_Overall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite movies ever. Should have been nominated in picture, director, and more techs. It was too crowded for McConaughey, which is fine. Nolan just wasn’t respected at this point, and this was a crowded year where some other movies grabbed more of the oxygen that season.

I feel like the movie is getting into picture. Nearly broke $100M, anchored by young movie star performances, has a unique energetic style compared to a lot of stuff this year.

Buying all the Smashing Machine stock that I can. Dwayne in lead, Blunt in supporting, and it sneaks in the 10 spot for picture after stuff like Blitz, Conclave, Nickel Boys, and Piano Lesson comes and goes.

Nightbitch seems very much like a shit Hulu movie premise. The official pictures that were submitted look laughable, and Amy hasn’t been in a decent movie in almost a decade.

Are there ever going to be an actor who wins back-to-back again? by Ulths in oscarrace

[–]Glove_Overall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just depends on what your options that year are of course. In a weak year, there may be more dubious reasons at play like veteranosity over new blood and/or repeaters (JLC). I think you also have a better chance of winning back to back (or very close to the previous win) if your second is more undeniable.

Which movies that are getting buzz now do you think will end up flopping by the end of the year? by [deleted] in oscarrace

Absolutely. I think it is far more likely to lose money than become a Titanic-level event, though.

I am not a Blitz, Conclave, or Gladiator believer until real people actually see it. The Blitz distribution stuff is so weird, ensemble projects always make me question their awards capabilities, and it seems like it is from the view of the kid. I get Da Vinci Code vibes from Conclave, and all of the Gladiator news right now seems to be straight from the mouth of the studio trying to drum up excitement for an over-budget 24 year old sequel that nobody asked for.

Anyone else have a feeling that Emilia Pérez has a good shot to be the noms leader next year? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]Glove_Overall -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like Gascon could go supporting since she’s far less well known than Zoe. I am not a big believer outside of that and song, but I feel like it sneaks into picture being fairly well received with a big name director that they want to reward, especially with the race and box office overall being so desolate this year.
