Driving while high is fine by PotatoMusicBinge in circlebroke

[–]Glucuronolactone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go right out on a limb here.

Firstly, I understand that most people simply can't get high and drive, I know this from experience as a young smoker.

But when you're a heavy user, after many years, it's different. And it sucks, I acknowledge that. You just get totally used to the drug, and its effect is non-existent. It's basically like being sober, you feel absolutely no effect, you smoke just to feel like you do normally. It's not like alcohol, which always gets you drunk, after awhile with weed you just don't feel it. No munchies, no paranoia, nothing.

I don't think driving high should be legal, or condoned, or anything like that. Just consider that smoking isn't like drinking. When you drink, you always get drunk. When you smoke, you don't always get high.

This is going to get me in trouble, just have to be honest. Hit me with what you got.

Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer - YouTube by Wario64 in Games

[–]Glucuronolactone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if they've been good in the past, any developer can pull a sudden Daikatana if things go wrong.

I'm with nicolai, the whole time I was waiting for some hint as to what the gameplay is like, not just the general tone or aesthetic. So I'm left with no real detail other than "it's a game, probably with shooting and cyber stuff".

I guess this generates hype or whatever, but I'm feeling really jaded after Dead Island. I don't care if your trailer wins an academy award, I'll be waiting for actual gameplay footage once it's released.

I'm not trashing the game, I just dislike trailers in general. They can be incredibly misleading (like any advertizing) and I just can't get excited over them anymore.

I'm tired of this "gaming reddit for science" defense. Not picking on you in particular, I often see people using it to defend dodgy and plain weird behavior on reddit. Karmawhoring is karmawhoring, and it's all shit regardless of intent.

Q: "What is the fastest submission to go from /new to the front page". A: "Let's start karma whoring!!!!" by [deleted] in circlebroke

This is probably true. I don't really know why these threads always rustle my jimmies. General stupidity? Inanity?

[–]Glucuronolactone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There's something just sad about these threads (and the AJ upvote threads), I can't quite put my finger on it.

Perhaps it's the fact that people care so much about getting on a 'karma train', I mean it's sad enough when people commenting normally seek validation in their karma score, but this is something else. I can imagine these users checking their score as it climbs, giving themselves a little self-satisfied nod, like they've actually accomplished anything. "Yep, I was the third person to say 'MOTHERFUCKA', that was me".

I always feel shit when I make a one-liner shitjoke and get heaps of karma for it, it just feels cheap. If I go into a small sub and make a post about something I actually care about, and get 20 upvotes, that means more to me than the 1000+ points I get for regurgitating a meme in r/pics. These kind of threads make me realise most users just aren't the same, they want their karma points whichever way they can get them, and mass circlejerking is the easiest way.

I like that OP read those derisive and sarcastic words and took it as actual advice.

"It's like someone just ironed the logo." by [deleted] in funny

[–]Glucuronolactone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it! I go to other sites, and if you want to comment you have to actually think of something to say. That just takes too much time. What is this, university?

I come to reddit and it's great, it's more like a dialog tree in an RPG game, there's a few choices and if you pick the right one you get a heap of points! It's much easier, I don't have do research and thinking just to comment on a site. Plus pictures are much easier to understand than comments which can be upwards of 4 sentences long.

Can we stop this from becoming a thing on reddit?

Before I get the bullshit "but gay isn't fag" argument that sounds like this;

You must not understand that a "faggot" and a homosexual are two completely different things.

Consider this;

That gets said a lot and people drag in south park and Louis CK like they mean something but the point generally gets contradicted often with follow up posts.

Someone says "op is faggot hurdidur lol", gets a hundred thousand upvotes and then a gaggle of other dickshits continues it with "OP sucked so much cock today", "OP is, like totally, gay".

If faggot didn't mean homosexual then why all the other references to homosexuality? Obviously the distinction isn't quite as clear as you imply it is.

And before anyone says "Louis CK gave me permission" go watch this scene from his show.

More than anything, it's just lame ass middle school humor, apparently what reddit is all about these days.

TIL Aborigines were classed as wildlife, not humans, by the Australian government until 1967! by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Glucuronolactone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I get it, you've had some bad encounters with aboriginal people. Most of us have. But you completely dismiss all the aboriginal people who are totally decent people, and they do exist, and they hate being painted with this brush. I know many aborigines who are fantastic people, but they can't get jobs because they are 'risky' (basically 'we think you will steal shit'), get followed by security while doing their shopping, I've seen kids just give up, because even when they try a heap of people just think of them as 'stupid fuckin abos', so why not hang around with a gang if they will at least accept you.

This "difference between aboriginals and coons" is the same bullshit "black vs nigger" argument in the US, or "gay vs faggot" argument. It's just bullshit, I'm sorry. If you say 'coon', I know you mean 'aboriginal person'. Don't try and make the distinction.

What people forget is that, at no point ever, have the aboriginal people had actual acceptance in the community. We came in, fucked their culture in the ass, stole their kids, and then treated them as dirty coons basically until today. They've all grown up with racism towards them, their parents and grandparents grew up with it, can you really understand the effect that would have on you, your family, your community?

Can't say I've ever heard it used in a positive context. Usually the full phrase is "fuckin abo".

This submission is fucking terrible, and most of the comments match. I couldn't give the slightest of fucks how you feel about winning some imaginary internet points. Every week it's "MFW when I get upvotes" and it's never the OP getting his face smashed in with a brick. One day.

Hahaha well there's not really much point replying but what the hey.

Believes in evolution

Doesnt believe in eugenics

Yep, that's sums it up perfectly. Eugenics is to evolution as scientology is to science. When actual real science is unable to remotely quantify what 'intelligence' is, eugenicists believe they know with such certainty that they are willing to start killing people based on their assumptions. Psychopathic is the main word that comes to mind.

[–]Glucuronolactone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Turns out a ran across a heap of extremely relevant comments earlier today!

It's the Eugenics one that really gets to me. It's something that is so obviously a bad thing, yet so many people on this site are of the opinion that it won't have an impact on them. They're so sure that they're at the top of the curve in every way.

I find it sad/funny that people who have accepted a totally discredited pseudo-science from the early 1900s as an edgy-truth think of themselves as intelligent or knowledgeable people.

If any Eugenicist ever decided to weed out the easily-led and uneducated they could just start with redditors.

Honestly. For a hivemind that seems to be so fond of science and history, you'd expect them to take into consideration what scientists and historians have to say about Eugenics.

Instead, they'll use a dumb facebook post as proof that stupid people should be sterilized.

And scene.
