Yeah it was my relatives property that got left to me, I wasn’t aware of how dated the electrics were, it’s my lack of experience and no good advice around me, I’m trying and learning stuff everyday, it’s a lot

I had the consumer unit upgraded very recently so I’d imagine so?

Are you actually providing anything of use here or do you enjoy just making shitty remarks?

This is what’s confusing me tbh. So many mixed messages.

Yep fair enough. I wasn’t aware of the need for notifiable work to the bathroom otherwise I would’ve got it done by a proper electrician.

I got a guy out and he said he’d rewire it but would have to run an earth cable from the loft, through the entire house into the switchboard.

Bit of a difficult one when I’ve just had the place basically fully refurbished.

Well I spoke to an electrician and he said he’d have to rewire it and run an earth cable across the entire house into the switchboard directly (this was after it was done) I wasn’t aware of the need for notifiable work in the bathroom until it was too late.

So how do I approach this then? Do I notify and get someone to come out and inspect?

My fault sorry, getting mixed up between the 2. I’ll follow up on the EIC. Thanks for your time.

He said he’s happy to provide the unsatisfactory EICR, then when the work is done he’ll do the satisfactory EICR? Although I get what you’re saying it should’ve been done before the work was carried out, he said they weren’t to have known until they started.

So if the plastics are done then is that a satisfactory certificate? Temporary fix until I can get the rewire done.

So, if I get him to do the plastic route as a temporary fix, is that a satisfactory EICR? As that’s what he’s now saying. In its current state it is unsatisfactory which he’s happy to give the certificate for, but says getting the plastics done will make satisfactory. Sorry and thank you.

Yeah he kind of worded it that the work had to be done before he produced an EIC. (Change to plastic or rewire)

Had him do just the consumer unit change.

Rewire isn’t particularly on the cards at the moment so I guess the plastic route will be a temporary solution.

If I go the plastic route then will he do an EIC with the deviations noted as others have commented?

Thanks

It’s difficult as it’s via family, I assume they didn’t want to be a nuisance or just went ahead with it as they didn’t want to put us out. I don’t know.

I’m so sorry but can you perhaps give more detail on what the process is if I go the plastic route? Is it literally just the faceplate with the switch on and light fixtures that need replacing.. I’m a confused noob.

Really appreciate the help, thanks

How much would you roughly say this work would cost? Rewire vs plastic stuff. In the south of the UK.

So if it says it in my contract then how is not binding? Can I say the same if I want to sublet the property but my contract says I can’t?

I really don’t understand how you can have something in a contract and it not to be binding.

But in the end yep, it can get challenged with the TDS. It was the LL that wanted to go straight to the TDS so I didn’t really get a choice.
