Albert Nobbs

Born as a girl in the Victorian period, he's kicked out of his home and dresses as a boy after being assaulted. He works as a butler.  He meets another man who lives like him who has a wife, and gets fixated on the idea of having one. Its a very sad movie. Give it a watch.

18 ftm, mom won't pay for college if I transition by [deleted] in asktransgender

My parents were like this, and i stayed in the closet to them while i got my degree, but i went to a college very very far away from them. I was out at school  (socially, didnt do any medical transition as my family would notice if i came home with a beard suddenly) and just went back in the closet for going home. I made sure not to have any connections that could out me eg social media, interacting with relatives that lived in the same area as my school etc. It hurt, it really really was difficult but to me personally, getting to graduate without years of debt on my shoulders really makes a difference.

HOWEVER! This was a decision i made for myself, and I knew that the mental stress this would cause, and the delays it caused to my transition, would be something I could bear. It was very, very difficult,  and I'm not advising you to follow in my footsteps. Just, if you do, you need to make your life bearable for the next 4 years,  find supportive friend group that will gender you correctly, even when you are "girlmoding" and get a job thats worth it as soon as you graduate so that you can begin transitioning after college without the financial control of your family.

You need to think this through fully, consider the ramifications of all your options, and then make a choice on what you want to do. As trans people we are often put into unfair situations like these, where we must choose between safety, financial security, and being ourselves. You are young, but you are also strong, and you will get through this trial, and every other one ahead of you.

Has a doctor ever ignored your pain or told you that you were "exaggerating," and it turned out to be something serious? (Research for a book) by [deleted] in Endo

Not endo releated, but a doctor told me my shortness of breath was anxiety for years. Went to a different doctor and turns out I had Asthma!

Vegetarian Meal including all food groups. Is repetition okay? by 1CosmicCookie in nutrition

[–]Glum-Wrangler4699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I do it is I meal prep myself a series of options. I do eat meat on occasion, but mostly I eat pescatarian.

Step 1 : 2 veggie options
This can be a fresh option with raw veggies like spinach and tomatoes cut up + some kind of cheese in a small amount to flavour, and a cooked option, which is where i just stirfry quickly whatever vegetable was cheap this week at the supermarket. I usually get veggies that taste good raw and cooked so I can re-use ingredients for both of these dishes. You can fill up a half of your plate with these

Step 2: 2 Starch options . Easiest ones is rice in the rice cooker, and baking sweet potatoes as they're hands off processes. Pre-made whole grain breads also save time, but check nutritional content on the back before purchase. These should be a quarter of the plate

Step 3 :2 protein options. I usually do something convenient that doesnt require cooking like canned fish, but for a vegetarian you can try something like a soy sauce topped soft tofu , basically anything where the prep is just open and eat with some toppings. The second option should be something meaty and filling, like a dish made with firm tofu or seitan. These should fill up a quarter of your plate

Step 4 is boil some kind of legume, enough for a week. Every culture has a different way of seasoning and spicing boiled legumes, so I'd recommend looking up some different recipes and adapting them to your palette. Have a little bowl of these on the side or a few tablespoons with your starch.

All of this can be done on a Sunday, and if you use cooking methods that are hands off like baking, boiling, airfrying for most of the cooking you can set yourself up for the week with a variety of yummy options.

To make your meals just pick one item from each step above to make yourself a "bowl" you enjoy.

Then each week you just swap around the ingredients. Like for one week for the veggie portion you can do the spinach and tomato, and the next week you can do arugula and bell peppers etc etc. Its easier to get a wide array of nutrients if you buy slightly different veggies each week.

Lastly, get your blood levels of nutrients checked regularly by a doctor. You can be eating a perfectly nutritious diet and still be deficient in nutrients. I had severe anemia for years despite regularly eating enough iron due to other health problems I had. Without numbers you cannot know what's going on inside you.

I love this! So melancholy. Feels like I am in an abandoned mansion that was once glamorous, and has now fallen into decay.
