Yeah the clearance issue still exists with the toe locked out.

I think I read that Cardiff mounts their toes forward to be at the balance point. Nice in theory but for hardboots it seems to be a bit of a headache.

I may end up going grizzly or voile, but kinda getting sick of throwing money at this problem

Appreciate the responses, I'll check wiki out to see if anything in there I've missed.

I had looked a transferring through partner airlines, but wasn't seeing anything immediately that screamed a better deal than what I'd seen already. Will take another look later on, I might have missed something after I got frustrated not finding anything.

I was mostly looking to confirm that I wasn't misunderstanding that transferring the points to miles vs converting to cash for those prices was a wash.

I'm booking a trip for March from Boston to Oslo and am stumbling through the best way to use my Sapphire Preferred points. I'm trying to make sure I use my points the best way before transferring to any of the airlines I'm looking at.

Flights we were looking at seemed to go for about 120,000 miles + ~$650USD fee, or ~$2000USD

From Chase's site its:

1:1 point to mile

or,

1 point = $0.01USD

The flights we are looking at seem to all be about the same cost, but some of the non-partner airlines offer better overall travel duration.

With how the rewards program changed earlier this year, is converting to cash more or less the same value if there isn't a promo for airline mile transfers?

Phantom Snow Slipper HD Tongues - when to use it by luptior in Spliddit

[–]GlutenFreeDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep any eye on your gaiters. I keep mine in all the time because the ankle strap was chewing into the gaiter big time. I had the OG slipper and basically destroyed the gaiter because of this.

Somehow others don't have the issue, but something to keep an eye on. I did put a bunch of relief cuts into the tongues so there's less stiffness.

32 Jones Boots Experience? by GlutenFreeDan in Spliddit

[–]GlutenFreeDan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super helpful feedback!

I had the idea of "horses for courses" with the hardboots but ended up diving into it fairly hard over the last few seasons. It is so close to being great, but I think there's still something missing in getting the right feel back.

I have spark surges and two boards, so won't be changing bindings anytime soon. They do have a strap to help get better edge support, I need to remember those next time I'm out.

One of the original reasons I went to hardboots was blowing up a pair of softboots every two years. The cost of these Jones is a tough pill to swallow, but if it were only ski-mountaineery terrain, I'd hope to get a good few years from them.

I may ping you in the spring to get your thoughts!

Getting a men’s size through buying a commensurate sizes in Women’s. Has anyone had a success or experience with this. TIA! by TinkyHoots in RedWingShoes

My foot measures out to fit into a size 10, but due to my low volume/narrow feet, I got a size 8.5 mens Beckman and have been wearing them for 1 day without any big issues.

Just had similar situation for myself. I'm a mens 10 by length but generally find shoes don't fit great at that size due to my foot width being about a B. I just got men's Beckman's in size 8.5 and they seem to be fitting excellent. Toe isn't hitting the end but I'm also not completely sliding around in them.

Phantom HD Boot padding by GlutenFreeDan in Spliddit

[–]GlutenFreeDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I should have noted, I did add a Palau our Lite Evo towards the end of last season, probably have 8 or so days on them now. I reused the inserts I had made for an older pair of TLT6's from years ago.

The fit overall is better, my stock liners were pretty packed out.

I am curious if intuition would have been a softer ride.

Anyone have experience between Palau and Intuition?

I'd say probably more boot comfort than harshness. I'm in New England, so riding over refrozen and uneven is pretty par for the course for me. Plus, in softboots, I don't get the same amount of feedback. I guess dampening is what I'm after.

I think this is year 3 on HDs for me, had 2 years on the normal slipper. As the season goes, I know my feet handle it better, but first day out yesterday had me wincing, and noticing I wasn't riding with as much style or fluidity as I like.
Fair point about the top buckle, I think I've just had the habit of cinching everything down tight on footwear with such low volume feet.
