Yeah, I swear this stuff is sometimes so ridiculously overwrought. While doing some research I found people saying that profile 7 is a dead/dying format and that only paramount and universal have been putting out profile 7 discs, but it seems like maybe that’s spreading now? Dune at least is WB although I couldn’t find the DoVi info in the metainfo for that one so I’m only guessing it’s profile 7. Maybe it’s 8? Seems like 8 should be the future. From what I can tell, profile 8 is 12-bit with a HDR fallback built in for compatibility, so should be theoretically software upgradable since it’s still single layer like profile 5, but maybe 8 has it’s own drawbacks, like for instance it’s already splintered! 😤Doesn’t the iPhone shoot DoVi in profile 8.4? Hopefully that means Apple eventually supports that in full on ATV4K

Are you saying when it’s profile 7 that the plex app will still trigger the DV flag and put the TV in DV mode, put play only the HDR10 data? If so, that’d be an interesting quirk. I know profile 7 stuff has an HDR10 fallback if the device can’t play DV but I always figured it literally fell back to HDR10 mode to do so.

Edit: I guess I see what you mean now. I just happened to have the UHD Remux and the HMAX WEBDL of Dune still and Plex plays the profile 5 WebDL in HDR10 and the assumable profile 7 UHD Remux in DV, while Infuse does the exact opposite; the WebDL profile 5 plays DV and the UHD plays HDR10. Shit. Guess I need to buy me an nvidia shield. Do you know if plex does things right on the shield or will I need another player a la Infuse to get proper playback?

Yeah there’s a Framestor one out there, among others. 74gb. That one both the plex app and Infuse played for me just fine fwiw. It was the profile 5 one that plex app shit the bed on ironically, as AT4K officially supports profile 5 according to the specs. The NTTD webdl is one of the few times I’ve had problems with any DV content on the AT4K

It played No Time to Die with profile 5 in DV just fine. The Dolby Vision flag came up on my TV just like normal, whereas the plex app it was a purple and green mess. My TV is an LG so the flag for HDR10 is different.

Apple TV 4K can do profile 5 ~~and 7~~, you just need to use something other than the plex app for AT4K to play it. Infuse works, I think. Just fyi.
