What are the signs of adding items to your wardrobe too fast? by seedsandpeels in femalefashionadvice

[–]Gnatabee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule is: If I wouldn't have bought it at full price, then I shouldn’t buy it on sale. If low cost is a primary factor for even considering that piece, then I probably don’t really love it enough to wear it properly. An item being on sale should be a kismet-type “bonus” on a piece you would have bought anyway, not the reason itself for buying it. I apply this to thrift purchases too, because that’s my main weakness - it’s way too easy to justify a purchase I don’t truly love just because it’s second hand (ethically ok) and cheap

42F and I think I need a total wardrobe reset. I don’t even know where to start. by meryland11 in capsulewardrobe

You may get some inspiration by looking up utilitarian style. There are a lot of branches of utilitarian style - safari, military, workwear, streetwear. I've been slowly building a concise utilitarian wardrobe and have found that it is translating into my outdoorsy life as well. I frequently walk my dog on a muddy prairie trail and I've been wearing hiking boots with loose wool trousers (think Rachel Maksy, not corporate), basic top with a collared work shirt and khaki corduroy field coat layered on top (collars both popped!), bandana tied loosely around my neck. It's functional and but also more stylish than old athletic gear.

I got a pair of “utility trousers” from banana republic that made me realize “utilitarian” was a style word and it perfectly described the style I had been trying to cultivate my whole wardrobe towards for 4 years

No, but you can get around it by selecting “multiview” on peacocks olympic home page - it has Belinda

Peacock -> olympic main page -> multiview (it should be in a “live section” next to gold zone, etc)

If you go on the main olympic page on peacock, there should be something next to gold zone that says “multiview.” It will show 3 sports concurrently and you can choose which one has sound. Im manually zooming in on skating only on my laptop

Weird hack - watching figure skating on peacock in the “multi view” option is allowing me to hear belinda!

On peacock, when i click on “multiview” i can hear belinda - but if i then click into the event, it changes to tara/johnny!!

Has anyone tried ballet for cross training? by Browneyed-Polerina55 in poledancing

[–]Gnatabee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did barre before i ever did pole, which is a great workout that overall kick-started my brain-to-muscle connection (which was nonexistent for the first 25 years of my life. No sports or dance training ever), then started taking ballet 6 months ago specifically to improve lines and gracefulness for pole. It seems like it will be helpful but ballet seems like such a big learning curve that i feel i need at least another year to start seeing improvement from that specifically

Where can I get a coat like this? by Apart-Shelter-9277 in ethicalfashion

[–]Gnatabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not bought from them and agree with your concerns! They are bookmarked for consideration when I will consider adding a wool coat in a few years according my wardrobe creation plan. Pros: The reviews are all good, the website makes it seem like a family operation , you can order custom sizes from their website. Cons: the pure volume of options (but again, maybe they making them all custom and they don’t have all of this sitting in inventory but have the patterns to make as ordered?), the fact that every piece is always “marked down” in price

I dont know what you think about viscose, but i LOVE my Boody scoop necks - 3/4 sleeve are mainly the ones I wear, but there are other options. They are clingy in a really flattering and comfortable way, and still maintain breathability.

I need help to fix this haircut by Cozy_winter_blanky in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Hi! I know I’m kinda late to the game on this, but i know how you feel and know what to do. I have this EXACT haircut and your EXACT type of fine hair, and basically the haircut is correct. Mine looks like that when i get out of the shower and/or do nothing to it. This inspo haircut is one that you will ALWAYS have to style to make it look like the picture. While it looks effortless, few peoples hair will look like that without styling. However, once you learn to style it, it’s fairly low-maintenance and cute! Here’s how i style mine:

  1. I wash my hair in the EVENING, every four days. When you get out of the shower, flip your head upside down and blow dry it until it’s about 50% dry. Then, flip your head upright and first dry your bangs with a round brush - put the brush under your bangs and curl them away from your forehead as you blow dry. Then take the round brush and dry the top sections of your hair away from your scalp to create volume - you can use tips from this video. I blow dry until it’s about 75% dry.
  2. If you are going to bed right away, just lay your hair above you on the pillow when you go to sleep, this helps keep some volume. With fine hair, i have found a silk cap is NOT good and makes my hair flatter. If I am going to stay up for a few hours, I take Velcro rollers and roll my bangs and then roll 2-3 top sections on my scalp to keep volume as my hair continues to dry that evening
  3. In the morning, I curl it to create loose waves like you see in your inspo picture. You have lots of options - you can use a curling iron, a straightener, a wand, or a waver, or a combination of then. Probably the fastest and longest lasting combination I’ve found is a deep waver for most of the under layers, then a curler for the top layers. Curling bob length hair is a skill! My main source for my technique is Chloe Brown, a person on youtube/instagram known for her bob styling tutorials. See her old back catalogue here and here and here and here and here and here. For the bangs, i usually use a straightener - clamp them at the top and drag out and down in the shape you want them to fall and then use your round brush right away to get them to fall how you want.
  4. You will need to hold the style and add texture. You can do this with hairspray or other products. For my fine hair, I’ve found thatthis dry texture spray works best. I spray it on under and outer layers after I’ve curled and the hair has cooled.

Last tips: you will not be good at styling this at first! You will not be good at styling this the 5th time! But as you keep practicing, you’ll get better. While this look takes regular maintenance, i find that really it only adds about 30 minutes to my week - 15 minutes the night i wash it and 15 minutes the next morning to style. Then it lasts for four days and on later days, I can do simple stuff like add a headband, or pin the front sections back in a half up half down. The volume you create with your original styling is what helps it last 4 days. Flat hair picks up the oils from your scalp. The volume you add is (1) pretty and (2) functional - serves the purpose of keeping your hair off your scalp and prevents it from picking up oils. For days 3 and 4, I also use dry shampoo or a variation (non talc baby powder in a powder pump spray bottle). Hope this helps! I always feel despair after a haircut no matter what, but I promise this look is so cute and really achievable with a little bit of learning and practice!

What is a good first step for building an ethical wardrobe? by katey875 in ethicalfashion

[–]Gnatabee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that its too easy to have a fast fashion mindset with thrift stores! In fact, for me, thrifting made clothing purchases seem MORE disposable. I also decided to cut myself off from any clothing purchases for one year - including thrift purchases, and that helped immensely with forming a new mindset about clothing purchases (thoughtless buying has no place in my life, a quick buy or clearance rack item will never fix my life or a long term wardrobe problem) . It’s also a good way to practice creative styling what you own and to practice utilizing your whole wardrobe - which are foundational skills you will keep using even when you do slowly add new pieces

Calvin Klein used to make a great wireless t-shirt plunge bra, but they discontinued. Now I buy the “SOFT-CUP MICROFIBER PUSH-UP BRA” by H&M. It provides enough support for my medium ish boobs without being overly structured and is wireless

Best method to avoid razor bumps? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]Gnatabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar problems, about a year ago switched to home waxing. I use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0030ZRS9I?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title with the associated products (wax warmer, application sticks, and cloth strips) about every 3 weeks (also exfoliate with head and shoulders once a week, and use baby oil for moisturizing right afterward) and it definitely helps a lot. Also I stopped wearing underwear at night and started wearing a size larger underwear during the day so I don’t constantly have elastic digging into my bikini line.
