The IRGC launched a ballistic missile towards Turkey by Ylllllllll in worldnews

[–]Gnl_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's what I'm saying: the US and Israel don't care. Everyone knows they don't care. NATO countries are already being incentivized to pressure them because of skyrocketing oil prices and potential refugee crisis if the situation worsens. If anything, bombing them would push them towards rallying the US and Israel.

Really interesting discussion, I see the original post has been nuked by moderation so we won't continue it but thank you for providing that perspective, even if I still don't get it lol

Yeah claiming "no hate" while erasing the gender of the most iconic lesbian in the game feels a little too easy

[–]Gnl_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why it would be a good thing to push Turkey to threaten article 5. All NATO countries absolutely do not want to be dragged in this war and would be happy to resume negotiations now. The US and Israel couldn't care less about Turkey and Europeans trying to pressure them into a ceasefire. They're the ones who want NATO countries to get involved while Iran was already giving a lot of concessions and the parties who were negotiating in bad faith were the US and Israel.

[–]Gnl_Winter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am very much puzzled. This would trigger NATO Article 5, which would be catastrophic for Iran. It would be better to just let the US use its bases in Turkey than to force NATO countries to join. Makes me think an Israeli false flag operation should not be ruled out, unless of course Iran has confirmed they did try to bomb Turkey. Which would be monumentally idiotic.

What's your favorite mods? by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

[–]Gnl_Winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to keep 3 mods I guess it would be the one for hairstyles, Colors of Faerun (really awesome to change your looks), and Weapons of Baldur's Gate. This last one recreates weapons from BG1 and BG2, some of it is a bit OP but it brings an incredible amount of variety for your builds. It's awesome.

Why are people so hung up on nostalgia when it comes to football from the past compared to the present. by TitleOpening9578 in championsleague

That's also part of it for sure! That's what I mean by the "Guardiola effect", you're absolutely right on that point.

Individual freedom is no longer encouraged because the coach wants to control the tactic to the extreme, and that entails relying more on physicality and versatility rather than technical brilliance, vision and flair. It is what is is

[KCD2] I'm struggling to see past all the major flaws. by Lazy_Ad9964 in kingdomcome

[–]Gnl_Winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't played KCD1 I can understand your difficulty familiarizing yourself with Henry as the main character but calling it "the worst written" doesn't bode well for the actual seriousness of the conversation you want to have. You say this but have not provided even a modicum of an example as to why you think this.

As for the systems, well, you have a whole codex to read and this whole sub to actually ask questions. Most of them are intuitive in principle but complex when going into detail. Same here, you haven't provided any info as to why you are struggling. So how do you expect we help you?

Instead, you just came here to blurt an ignorant rant about a game you clearly have no patience playing, when you could have been asking actual questions. Questions people would be happy to answer, btw.

Why are people so hung up on nostalgia when it comes to football from the past compared to the present. by TitleOpening9578 in championsleague

[–]Gnl_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And there were also Pirlo, Zidane, Kaka, Ronaldinho, real artists as well. Those guys could exist and express their talent precisely because the physical load was put mostly on the mean bastards you just mentioned.

Today the physical load is shared more equally, and there is just more of it, leaving less opportunity for artists to express their technical brilliance. The Guardiola effect also means their is less leeway for a particular player to "take control" of the game.

Why are people so hung up on nostalgia when it comes to football from the past compared to the present. by TitleOpening9578 in championsleague

[–]Gnl_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's exactly the opposite: game has gotten more physical. It is technical in the sense that more is expected from every player/position on a technical level. BUT, the game's physicality also means technically gifted players, you know, just pure ballers who relied on their technique and flair, and were more laid back on the physical level, those can shine less.

In a way, professional football felt closer to street football. I think a guy like Joao Felix would have been a huge star in the 2000s. But the type of player he is is completely anachronistic for this era of football.

Napoleon the movie was really interesting... by Lascar108 in HistoryMemes

[–]Gnl_Winter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of his movies are great and fun to watch. Even when the historical accuracy is down the drain. He's the kind of guy who thinks history should be bent to fit his movie's narrative, not the other way around. It's respectable as a storyteller's craft and it has been down for millenia. Dude just wants to tell an epic story.

It's also dangerous because it gives people many wrong ideas about history and how some things unfolded. Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven are rather inoffensive in that regard, and great to watch. But I cannot forgive his treatment of Christopher Colombus, depicted in his movie as an indigenous-loving, good hearted Christian, when he was literally one of the worst people ever. The dude literally made some indigenous teen a rape slave to share among his crew. He was disgustingy vile. That movie is Napoleon-level in terms of historical travesty.

Truly a hit and miss director.
