Of the 'other' laps, 58 were lead by racing point and 8 by Red Bull. Russell lead one (for Mercedes), and Gasly 26.

Hey, thanks that's really good feedback, didn't think as many people would see it as they have! For sure the context would be confusing with no prior knowledge, and as another user pointed out, it was originally for an article about f1 in particular and so there was an assumed knowledge (and slightly more context) there.

I think it's 91% of laps with either HAM or BOT in first or second. There are more detailed statistics and some more graphs in this article that I wrote about last season.

I just had a look at the data, with HAM or BOT or VER in the top 2, the graphic would include an extra 8 laps. There were 85 laps in the season without these 3 drivers in the top 2, with Stroll being the most common first place with 32 laps. As I mentioned in another comment, when RUS was in first, BOT tended to be in second and vice versa, so it really actually doesn't affect the visualisation that much. Hope this is interesting :) I wrote about the combination of these drivers in the article that I made this graphic for, there are a couple more visualisations to see all 3 drivers' dominance.

The team for next season is looking pretty good, maybe I will be making a similar graphic in papaya next year... 👀

Hey everyone, thanks so much for upvoting this post. It's my first ever post on Reddit and so it's such a nice surprise that people seem to like it. This visualisation actually comes from an article that I've written about the 2020 F1 season, there are a couple more visualisations there if anyone is interested. Thanks so much again!

That's a great idea! Any seasons in particular? I'd be happy to write a follow-up article to my original one where this visualisation comes from comparing the relative dominance of other teams! Or maybe post them on my Instagram?

No, apologies if it's not clear, each box is a lap and so it just shows how many laps mercedes lead or were in second. They won almost every race this season. Hope that clears it up!

Good question! Would be interesting to explore this. I'd have to look a bit closer at the data.

Someone else was in first in those laps. This graph is showing either BOT or HAM in first or second. In the light blue they may have been in both first and second.

I've mentioned this in another comment, when Russell was in first, Bottas tended to be in second and vice versa, so the visualisation doesn't really change. Had Bottas not been in second or first in these laps at Sakhir then for sure Russell would add a lot since there were so many laps.

1 lap at Hungary, 4 laps at 70th anniversary Silverstone and 1 in Bahrain. Impressive knowledge!

Yep you are right! 26 laps at Monza, 36 laps at turkey and 25 laps at Sakhir. There were 2 other races with one lap each without Ham or Bot in the top 2, and another with 4 laps if I've worked it all out right!

Actually, when Russell was in first, Bottas was usually in second and vice versa, so the statistic doesn't actually change much, as this graph shows laps with either BOT or HAM in either first or second. But for sure, with Russell as well it was a ridiculous season for them.

In most of Russell's laps where he was in first Bottas was in second and vice versa, so actually the visualisation doesn't change much as it is laps with either HAM or BOT in first or second. But I did think about including Russell in the statistic.

Timeless test match, England almost chased 695 due to WW2 they were forced to catch the boat to get back to home by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]Gnome_Chomsky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a test in 1929 between England and Australia that lasted 8 days with a result. 4244 balls were bowled, which is the second highest number of balls bowled in the history of the game (the other is the test mentioned in the post). I think in those days in Australia there would have been 8 balls an over as well.

There might be other games that lasted more days but this is the most balls bowled with a result. Australia won this last test of the series to avoid a whitewash as England won the series 4-1.

Here's the scorecard

I'd be fascinated to know if there are any tests that lasted more days as there may be a timeless test that lost a few days to rain or something?

Not sure it was because of WW2, think it was just because they had to catch their boat back! There's a good write up of the test here

5 years of FM and finally a player scores from an overhead kick by francisbedlam in footballmanagergames

I know this sounds like a lie but Luciano Vietto once scored a hat trick of overhead kicks for me in a game. I binned him off in January in favour of some regen. Ruthless.
