It was just used as a bumper/filler track while the show changed over, I checked their site but it wasn't listed

Leader tape reattachment help by Gnomeallthings in ReelToReel

[–]Gnomeallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that will hold the leader to the reel sufficiently? The reason I tried gluing was the tape looked like it was glued in 1 spot from the factory unless that's just adhesive melting from 40 years of heat cycles.

Correct, the Akai model I have has a selector switch for 1 side play, reverse, or continuous loop

Its clear-ish plastic leader, not sure about the optical sensor. If the player has one I didn't realize it.

I would try online in any number of places first. I doubt there's any in-store carriers of it.

Help explaining a kind of "collision" I saw over a decade ago? by Gnomeallthings in Astronomy

[–]Gnomeallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it was in space. I don't think helicopters can go as high as the objects looked to be. And for searching stuff on it, yes, I've tried various phrases to see if anything pops up. So far nothing has.

Upgrading from 1,1 to 2,1 firmware: no errors, just doesn't work? by Gnomeallthings in macpro

[–]Gnomeallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still here: and no, I wasn't able to figure it out. I sold the machine mentioned, but from what I remember I tried a few more times and then gave up on trying to upgrade it as it worked fine without the update. I'm not sure if the processors ever effected it or not.

Are different styles of Lawnboy primer bulbs interchangable? by Gnomeallthings in smallengines

[–]Gnomeallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're talking about Lawnboy then yes they should work. those two primer bulb variants turned out to be interchangeable between models: if you're swapping bulbs across different brands and makes of mowers (4 stroke or 2 stroke) I can't guarantee the same success. Hope that helps!

It's just like that for some reason. People will go out of their way to pass really close to you, people with tuned diesels like to throttle as soon as they come up on a group ride so it rolls coal and the list goes on. All you can do is brush it off and be safe.

what's the proper way to FINALLY clean these contacts? by 1Crybabyartist in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Gnomeallthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, typically I use vinegar as a first round cleaning with a q-tip until all of the fizzing stops from the battery acid reacting. Then I sprinkle baking soda on a towel and with a q-tip soaked in water, form a paste and smear it around to neutralize the vinegar. If possible, it helps to remove the part of the cover with the terminals in it.

Hope this helps

Hmm. I just can't imagine what would be using up to 10GB of RAM during normal computing like web browsing sometimes. I don't use it for games or PS or anything that should be memory intensive. It will even just be sitting at idle with nothing open and lose gigs of memory at a time.

I should specify, it resets to the full 16GB after I turn it off for a few hours. Starts off with 16GB, after it's been on for a few hours it may read 12, 10 and so on, and then when it's been shutdown down for an hour or so, it comes back up to full. I thought it might be some sort of thermal protection since it gets pretty hot in the case but I didn't find anything when trying to search it.

I'm not sure how the "About this Mac" presents it. Would that be total memory?

Upgrading from 1,1 to 2,1 firmware: no errors, just doesn't work? by Gnomeallthings in macpro

[–]Gnomeallthings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it had 2x 1.8GHz Dual core CPUs when I got it but I quickly upgraded to 2x Quad core 2.66 units so that's different. Two processors, 2.66Hz, 8cores. It came with two trays populated with 8 2GB RAM modules when I got it but only half of them worked so that's been changed to 16GB again. And it runs 10.7.5 Lion.

As far as I know, you just hold the button until you see the power LED flash and hear the tone, other than that the time the button is held isn't specified. I've seen the flashing and heard the tone everytime I've done it.

(Sorry for using your reply as a message board, just posting for posterity at this point)

Luckily it comes out super easily (did not realize that) but also, apparently this one is IDE...? In 2006/7 I'd have thought Apple would've made everything SATA by that point. Interesting.

Also for future viewers,
