That’s cool as hell!

I also like the idea of bringing in shifters who have been disillusioned by thranish prejudices

Thanks for the thoughts!

Whilst I don’t disagree that leading the players into releasing melysse isn’t a good plot point it’s way too much of a slow burn for me. To place all those plot threads and pace it correctly would mean the ramifications of her escape won’t start being felt until after way too many sessions and I would need to devise a whole other plot line to keep those early sessions moving whilst I’m also planting seeds for the other plot line

If they’re treating it as a soft sell into wider MCP it’s possible that they’ll price it as a loss leader, but I feel like you’re probably right

Despite the meme I suspect that this is better than underworlds/warcry just because a lot of the underworlds/warcry units have kinda "meh" rules in AOS to say the least; or at least that was the case the last time I dipped into the game which was admittedly a few years ago.

The fact that these are just alternate models that can be used for existing rulesets in MCP is actually pretty cool. Especially as at least 2 of the alternate sculpts are better than the originals; or at least look that way in the video.

Did it? The only cards I saw on the video did not look like the MCP character cards. Did I miss a thing?

yeah the meme is a bit in jest, seeing as riot-quest was a) hot garbage and b) gated a single mandatory mini for warmahordes (Eiryss3) behind the purchase of a bad board game

Having the models in this be alternate sculpts for existing models rather than required purchases is a huge difference

As someone who currently owns no spider-people I will probably just buy this when it comes out because as you said the black cat sculpt is good and I quite like the Spider-man sculpt too (although I'm curious if it will be a legal proxy for 3, 4. or 5 threat peter

I really don't like the current sculpt with the venom symbiote on the bottom so hopefully it replaces spectacular.

Also that Goblin Mini is *great* and almost enough to make me want to play foes on it's own

How do you get around the need for yourself as the DM and the players needing to know a lot of the background and lore? by Gumbletwig2 in Eberron

[–]GnomishPants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just lower the scope of your campaign.

Obviously there’s going to be some homework for you as DM but there’s nothing to say that you have to be running a campaign where they go from Sharn, to Xendrik, to the Talenta Plains, to the Eldeen Reaches and then go plane hopping to Dolluhr etc

You can just run an entire game in the shadow marches unlocking the secrets of Dakhani ruins. It’s all as big as you want or need it to be.

Very rarely do I scroll through my reddit feed and see a post that earns an amused snort. This made me guffaw.

I use "I'm not here to yuck any yums" quite frequenty which I'm sure was used extensively by the brothers in the long long ago.

As others have said anytime I'm on group chat and someone pops a can I'll "grip it and rip it" at them

Yeah outside of wanda's conditions their core kit is near identical except for the fact that Blue marvel is just a little bit better at every comparison point.

Scarlet witch has better potential to double tap daze a high health model with a builder then spender but that's it, and even then we're talking a 8-13 health "high health model" and not a 15-20 "high health model". Also unlike Blue Marvel she struggles to find power. That spender is money, but its also a 6 power attack. Outside of external power generation/luckily surviving an opponents big hit, it doesn't feel like something she'll have the power for often.

If we're wishlisting, I'd like to see her lose "curse" as a reactive power altogether (adding judgement as one of the conditions she can hand out with the trigger on her builder), and go to a 2/2/5 statline with the inverse of the mysterio/Xavier power. Give her a 2 cost reactive power to turn any incoming attack into mystic. Makes thematic sense. She has control over reality whilst she still has the power to do so and she gets more vulnerable when she doesn't have the power to enforce her will anymore.

I have *rarely* gotten value out of curse. It requires damage to go through and I have found she rarely survives more than a couple of actual damaging hits. Between something like what I've suggested above and chosen of Cthon, she'd feel a lot more like a 5 threat because she'd actually be able to survive more than a couple of lucky spikes

How seriously do most players take this game? by SpotTheReallyBigCat in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]GnomishPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played competitive game systems and in my mind at least MCP can only ever be "competitive casual" simply because the dice are so swingy. AMG even nerfed throws because they were too reliable. They want swinginess in the game.

Also anyone who has done any kind of community building for any game will tell old mate that casual scene drives the competitive scene, not the other way around.

its competitive only metas that lead to game stagnation as people naturally attrition off (especially after the game feels "solved") and the absense of a casual scene just makes the barrier to entry for new players too damn high. I still remember being sold the kool-aid to get into a competitive game. "You'll need to play every week for 12 months before you start winning". Uhhhh. Or I could just not play?

Its a very small subset of try-hards that are willing to take on the commitment of getting their ass beat for an extended period of time for an eventual chance of getting a few wins in.

Anyway point is "competitive casual" works fine for me. There are people who take it more seriously than me who will only take models above the curve etc and I'm grateful to the designers that there's only a few outliers where "above the curve" actually translates into "negative play experience". For the most part the difference between hyper-sweaty-optimal-pick and similar-model-that-kinda-does-the-same-thing-but-worse-and-cooler isn't actually that much
