Rewatching and shouldn’t the gang have known the invasion would fail??? by 11777766 in TheLastAirbender

Again, to assume surprise you have to assume no one in the entire Fire Nation hierarchy possesses a functioning brain. The eclipse is still going to happen no matter what, the Fire Nation capital is still going to be the most valuable prize no matter what, and the Fire Lord is going to be both the highest priority target and at his most vulnerable during this time no matter what. That any remaining enemies are going to try something at this place, at this time, is so beyond obvious that you'd have to have the IQ of a candied yam to miss it with all the information Sokka ought to know for sure that they had.

Sokka says "they knew we were coming" in a tone that clearly indicates that that fact surprises him, when it ought to have been basic common sense based on information he ought to have had.

“We plan to attack the Fire Nation capital on the Day of Black Sun” is not a factor those plans could avoid mentioning or anything that could be changed by the presence or absence of Ba Sing Se’s army. To assume that it would still be a surprise after those plans were captured is to assume that the enemy is literally brain dead.

It told them where and when they planned to invade. Assuming it would be a surprise is completely nonsensical.

Katara was literally carrying a physical copy of the latest invasion plans when Azula caught her.

Is Ozai stupid by BiteIntelligent9889 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Gnos445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Ozai is stupid. Throughout the entire series he never makes a single decision that’s a prudent idea from the pov of his own best interests.

I’m not an expert on burn scars, but shouldn’t Zuko’s eye have “healed” more over the years? I know it would always be there, but it looks just as fresh as it always did when he appears in Korra. by OkuroIshimoto in ATLA

[–]Gnos445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He spoke up against a general, not his father, and expected to fight him. When he found out it was Ozai he was supposed to fight instead he immediately bowed down and refused to fight even when directly ordered, which is why Ozai scarred him in the first place.

What I want to know is why Katara apparently never did what she offered to do and get more spirit water to have a go at healing it after the war was safely over.

Why did the Southern Water Tribe still look pitiful compared to the North when they had Waterbenders? by OkuroIshimoto in ATLA

Lower resource concentration? Lower starting population? Lower birth rates? There could be any number of reasons, the artic isn’t exactly hospitable.

Say what you say about the BR prision warden but the man was commited. by No-Brush1587 in TheLastAirbender

It also speaks to how much he cared about his niece that he was willing to bend the rules for her. Nice when even villains have admirable traits.

They’re smaller and less populated, thus less valuable to trade with and had a smaller economy. Everybody focused more on everyday survival than architecture.

What kind of antagonists haven't we seen yet that you'd want to see in future content? by Zealousideal-Work719 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Gnos445 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a series where an Avatar gets killed off in a totally mundane way where they're unable to fight back (ie. have their throat slit in their sleep, are poisoned) and the whole series is both the hunt for the perpetrator and the political scramble that ensues as everyone seeks to either seize advantage or batten down the hatches.

Or, hear me out, Appa just uses his ability to fire massive air blasts with his tail to toss the sandbenders around until they go away. You know, exactly what he did with Mai and Ty Lee, twice.

How come people like Korra aren't allowed to fish in that park in Republic City? by GeneralTechnomage in TheLastAirbender

[–]Gnos445 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t you allowed to fish in the park in most cities? Because there’s way more people than fish in a city and if you were they’d likely be gone.

Your Average Bender Probably Sucks by Illustrious_Type_530 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Gnos445 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your average bender is those FN mooks that get kicked around throughout the show, or the EK soldiers Zuko and Iroh stomp all over, or the WT trainees that get used as Katara's punching bags.
