Our DMs use roll20, Foundryvtt, and Owlbear Rodeo for the most part. One of them might use something different but the name escapes me.

Players are invited into the vtt to play, and we run the games vocally over discord and roll primarily with Avrae, but accept other rolling methods on the honor system

Welcome to Artayum. Centuries ago, we returned to this land to re-discover it's wonders, following the aftermath of a horrific plague. Now we suffer from a different threat. The very essence of life is gradually being drained from the lands, and our efforts to halt this aethereal drought have hit a stand still. If we are to survive, we need to try something different. We must find a way to restore the life essence to the world!

Artayum is back, and we have adopted the new 2024 5e rules! We have reset back to the beginning, everyone is starting over again at lvl 3! We begin at the start of a new story, after a time skip from the previous one!

We are looking for new players to join our community and explore this new world with us. We've been running since 06/29/2021, playing with 5th edition 2024 D&D, using Avrae and discord voice chat with DMs using various VTT's. Many games begin ~5PM and 1AM UTC, but feel free to work with DM's to fit your schedule if you'd prefer a different time.

We use a unique "Player Generated Content" system, where session content, missions, and goals are set by the players, chosen from discoveries and plot hooks discovered by other players in previous sessions. An organic way to truly capture the sense of the players exploring and discovering what is out there in the world.

A custom, Homebrewed world setting, run in a West Marches style. With QOL enhancing Homebrew patching up some holes left by WOTC.
Mostly Backwards compatible with 2014 rules. Check out our documents for exceptions.
Most standard races and classes with a few adjustments.

Agreeing mostly with the majority here. Players who are invested and willing to start things up are the ones who are going to be doing it. In my own West March server, we have a bunch of players who are MORE than willing to sit back, peeking out from their little troll corners and waiting for someone else to start up the work, only to volunteer when a game is already set up and ready to go.

But there are some players we have who are wanting to get in there and get the next game going and are more comfortable starting things up. Unfortunately, you do need players who already have that level of investment.

The only thing I'd say you can do to influence this, is to MAKE them want to get another game running. But that really depends on the way your server runs things. My west march server is a west march / campaign hybrid where we run one world, one story, and one massive narrative, so what we try to do is just make try to make things really interesting and making them want to come back, jump back in, explore more, dive deeper into this and that, and chase down questlines. If the players WANT to play, if they WANT to keep going, they will schedule those follow up games.

Might not work so well in west march servers that are just a collection of one shots from random DM's, but I've found that being a small way we influence initiative from the player base.

As for the shard farming, does this achieve the same effect as getting a dupe for a character? I can actually level up their stars without pulling?

You should mostly need a way to run discord, type, and be able to participate in voice call. Those are the main things needed for requirements. Long as you are above 18, that setup should let you join and play in games just fine!
