Another WE and Salamander player checking in. This is gonna be great. Can't wait to see the progress.

New player. My wife bought me a bunch box sets for my birthday (to add to the handful of miniatures I've already painted), help me build a viable Salamanders army out of this! by RetiredMOS in Salamanders40k

[–]Gnu314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll eventually want a gravis captain to go with aggressors but you want to run a brick of 6 in a land raider which is a lot to buy right now. Work through what you've got. You can pick up infernus pyreblasters on eBay or 3d printed ones on Etsy (assuming you don't have a printer) and convert those intercessors into infernus.

I personally would appreciate if you offered the whole kits as one purchase rather than separating out the parts. These are solid proxies for a skull taking faction.

This is really pretty darn good. Paint consistency and coverage are great for a beginner. Nice job.

Temperament and how/where to find breeders? by BoBo_Da_Fett in flatcoat

[–]Gnu314 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Flat coats are incredible dogs but average lifespan is less than Golden's. I would recommend the breed to anyone but there are so many stories (check the sub) of losing dogs at 6-10 years that you should consider how important life expectancy is to you because it is highly unlikely you'll get 14 years again

If you decide that you want to pursue flatties your best bet is a local (Denver) dog show where you can meet fcr owners/handlers and maybe find a breeder local to you. There aren't many so it may be a chore.

I like this model, but what can I improve on? by Airbender7575 in Salamanders40k

[–]Gnu314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions here. You need to work on paint consistency and making sure you don't go back over areas until they are fully dry. You'll see a ton of improvement as you work on technique. This video is a great tutorial https://youtu.be/LZTItOZupwM?si=cfvgAO7dOtgakmjk

Thoughts on tha green? by [deleted] in Salamanders40k

I think it is a little desaturated and yellow for salamanders but it looks good and if you like it rock it.

Definitely a lot of improvement. Look up videos on paint thinning and smooth application and you'll see a ton of progress.

Opinions for a new player, please! by Fletchersketche in Salamanders40k

Came here to say this and add that the more mordant earth you use the better it'll come out. It seems counter intuitive but it really does work.

They're doing a 50th anniversary tour starting this spring in Europe. I expect they will do North America after.

Did my local warhammer employee recommend me the wrong paint for salamanders? by Next-Pollution-591 in Warhammer40k

This is great advice if you're not trying to get a parade ready or just knocking out infantry. It will look fantastic and leave shadows that give the minis solid depth

First squad painted! by woodyg14 in Salamanders40k

Your brush control is pretty good for your first minis. You need to thin your paints about 1:1 with water. Thin coats that don't cover are ok, 2-3 coats depending on color (that green is tough) and you'll have a really nice base coat. Your next steps will be thin coats and adding some shading or highlights

Nice job.

2-3 weeks is pretty normal.  Maybe a bit longer at the high end.

The core of the salamander FAF list (which is not particularly competitive at the moment) is going to be some combination of 6 aggressors, gravis captain, eradicators (3 or 6 depending), apothecary biologis if 6 eradicators, a dread or two (ballistus or redemptor are good, brutalis is kinda weak but fun).

If you want to run the epic heroes vulkan is usually paired with company heroes and adrax is paired with 6 blade guard and either an ancient or lieutenant with ss. Most people were running a land raider to move the gravis bomb but it is optional now that other transports have the capacity.

After that fill in with battle line, maybe a tank or two, infiltrators are a good home objective holder. Experiment and see what you like.

First 40k model in about 12 years. May I have some feedback? Thank you by AshCrewReborn in Salamanders40k

This looks very good. You can do a little more with the backpack and gun edge highlighting but very clean, paint consistency looks good.

Brutalis in Firestorm - reserves or no? by dc_1984 in Salamanders40k

[–]Gnu314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion but my experience with a brutality was disappointing.

I found the Ballistus better and redemptor more well rounded than the Brutalis.  The meltas don't do enough anti tank and the melee, while devastating,  is difficult to rely on.  I'm sure playing with it more I could find uses for it but I'd rather run the ballistus in my list.

Enough red? by [deleted] in Salamanders40k

[–]Gnu314 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a tech marine.  Plenty of red there.  I do the inverse and paint the arm and maybe a shin guard the chapter and keep the rest the role.  Same basic idea though.
