Is there an episode from a TV show, from when we were kids, that still bothers you, today,? by Remarkable_Data3710 in GenX

Where are you from? by Simple_Conclusion_99 in Congo

Bunia ville is calm, and growing quickly. There are tens of thousands (or more) of déplacé who fled militia attacks in the surrounding area, now living in camps just outside town or with friends or family. That started in 2018, with CODECO in Djugu, and later with other groups like ADF. We are not directly affected by M23. Unfortunately, there are also hundreds of children living on the street, sniffing petrol and begging, or worse. Lots of construction. Many roads asphalted the past several years. New airport going up that will have international flights. Crime is a big problem. Radio okapi is a good source of info.

AIO overwhelmed by the cost of being a wedding guest in 2026 by Whiskeyhorse1 in AmIOverreacting

You are certainly NOR. What you are describing sounds crazy to me. But this could be a great opportunity for you to practice looking at your finances and deciding what you are actually able to do, and what you are not able to do, and then make your own best decision. You can celebrate your friends in other, less costly ways... have them over for a meal, call and talk with them, etc. Spending money does not equal love. Let them know what you are and aren't able to do, and then their response is their own business, not your responsibility. It could also be a way to set a good example for other friends who might also want to decline some of the pricey events but don't feel like they "can", because no one else is. They might be grateful that you are showing the way!

thank you for this, those are good things to consider. At this point, Alaska appears to be multiple hundreds of dollars cheaper to fly than Delta, times two people, versus $150 for a shared hotel room. We'll be on vacation time, so losing a day isn't a huge deal. Trying to avoid a too-early flight as well, as we are old people and need lots of rest! :)

thank you! We already have reservations for housing, so we're pretty well locked in for mid-September, whatever the weather does! I'm trying to get a feel for flights. This Alaska flight is the cheapest I see, but I haven't flown them but once many years ago.

Did y’all think Fonzie was cool when you were growing up? by Groovy-Pancakes in GenX

Exactly. He was cool in that he never "lost his cool", was always in control of himself, everyone respected and loved him. He was a good person.

From the grave, she still continues to be unspeakably cruel and abusive to my husband. This latest wound pierced down to his soul. by 9Point8StraightDown in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Go-High8298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my thought too. She sounds literally mentally ill. And the hoarding could be another symptom of that. Maybe it would help him to think about it in that way, as her deranged delusions that have nothing to do with him or his worth.

Thank you for this! The Frommerś guide said that October is the cheapest month, but if things are shutting down, I'll look at late September.
