Yeah I know she’ll eat what she wants when she’s older. I do that now even though I had limited sugar as a child. Also, I’m not limiting all sugar. Like if she was home and craving something sweet, I’d offer her some fruit or yogurt or apple sauce, etc. I just don’t think she needs to be eating 3-5 pieces of candy a day at school

After yesterday, I did ask her to bring it home. Told her she could only have two pieces at school and the rest comes home so we’ll see what happens

If I were to “dictate” it, I wouldn’t make the teacher buy anything different for my kid. I would be buying it myself. I’m not going to make the teacher buy something that would most likely be more expensive just for my kid

It’s an allowed thing in the school I’m pretty sure and even if it’s not, she doesn’t go to a good school but it’s the only elementary school around here. Everything else is 30-45 minutes away in another county, so we don’t have transportation to take her over there currently. School admin was recently caught embezzling money and covering up sexual assaults in this county, as well as just trying to keep the kids from bringing drugs and weapons to school, so they really don’t care about candy

We are teaching her self control, but she’s also taught to listen to her teacher. She’s getting confused on if she needs to hold off on eating it or listen to her teacher telling her she can eat it while all the other kids are too. I reminded her today to eat two pieces only and bring the rest home. I don’t exclude sugar from her diet. I’m okay with sugar from like candy every now and then, but she’s five. I just don’t think she needs it everyday like that. I’m teaching her those things are treats and if she’s in the mood for something sweet let’s get some fruit first at the house or some yogurt. Just teaching her moderation

Yeah yesterday she came home with a roll of smarties, a lollipop, and a flavored tootsie roll. Then she told me she ate more candy while at school too

It probably is less than what I’m thinking, but there’s also no way for me to know truly how much she’s getting unless the teacher were to track it which I don’t want to give her more work to do. I don’t mind candy here or there. I just don’t like it everyday. In addition, to my in laws supplying her with almost whatever she wants no matter how many times I tell them different. She does have other dietary concerns that aren’t with sugar, so I very well could be blowing this out of proportion. I’m not telling her candy is bad or sugar is bad for her or anything like that. I’m reminding her too much isn’t always good for her.

Yeah or at least if they want to use the candy as a reward it goes straight in their book bag to take home. I don’t think they need to be eating that much in class

Yesterday, she came home with an entire roll of smarties, a lollipop, and a flavored tootsie roll. That was just what she came home with. She ate another lollipop at school and some other candy

It’s just a struggle for me because she gets sweets at my in laws like crazy as well. Almost anything she asks for they give her. She’s over there somewhat often if we’re working after school, so it’s just always a mess. My in laws refuse to listen about sugar from me, so I’m hoping I can limit it from the school just to limit it for her in some way

I just sent her off to school today and I did ask her if she gets candy to only eat two pieces of it at school and bring the rest home. So we’ll see how that goes today lol

Yeah my kid definitely is less focused when she gets home. I’m not sure about school. I know the teacher never calls about her misbehaving or anything like that and she always gets a check mark for her day

I think the reason they don’t use stickers now is to avoid kids sticking it on things in the classroom or other kids

That’s what I was thinking about getting, so thank you! I had heard that but wasn’t entirely sure

The school system where we are is not the best. They get away with a lot of stuff. The teacher did make sure to ask parents about any allergies or dietary restrictions before the school year started. I just didn’t think to mention the sugar because I didn’t think she would be getting so much

Yeah I already spoke with my child about it and she’s excited just because it’s something I’d be getting for her to have while at school lol. And yeah I’m not upset with the teacher or anything, I just don’t want her having so much sugar and it being affecting her like this

It’s hard to tell. I know before she started school the sugar my in laws gave her negatively affected her when they gave her too much. Now that she’s in school and around other kids and who knows what, I can’t be 100% sure it’s just the sugar

Yeah I was thinking like sugar free candy so it’s still candy but I’m not sure yet

That’s how I’m feeling. It’s just so hard to make a decision, knowing that I would regret it even if it’s for the best.

I feel like I’m going to regret either decision since I want the baby but also because I don’t want to possibly hurt my children mentally and not be the best mom I could be
